Roy Halladay Pitches No-Hitter In Playoff Debut

Congratulations, Mr. Halladay

Congratulations to the best pitcher in baseball welcoming himself to the postseason stage in the best way possible, as Roy Halladay no-hit the Reds to give the Phillies a 4-0 win in Game 1 of their NLDS. Only a two-out walk in the fifth inning to Jay Bruce kept this game from being a perfecto.

Move over Don Larsen, you have company.

Also, Nolan Ryan was the last pitcher to have two no-hitters in the same season, which he did for the Angels in 1973 (on May 15 and July 15).

How much better is he gonna get, in your opinion?

He strikes out a lot, Hits for an okay average. I’m not sure about his defense, but I’m sure it is good. He has decent speed.

Thanks

I dont think he needs to get much better.

HIs 2010 was ..276/.361/.498…very Jim Edmonds like.

by Joey Joe on Oct 6, 2010 7:42 PM PDT up reply actions

He is better than I thought, after looking at his numbers vs every other CF this year.

by keithc13 on Oct 6, 2010 7:50 PM PDT up reply actions

Rasmsus is like an inflated version of 2009 Kemp. More power, more walks, more strikeouts. Even if he just stays how he is, he’s a 5-6 win player over a full season. Plus unlike Kemp, if his strikeouts hurt his average too much (he had a .350 BABIP last year, but it was a laser show out there, so it’s not unreasonable) he still has the discipline to not be a black hole if he hits .240. So even if Rasmus keeps doing what he’s doing, he’s a great player.

As for improvements assuming you don’t count Hamilton and CarGo as CFs, Rasmus is the best hitting CF in baseball at 23, and if he cuts down the strikeouts at all while keeping his power up, you’re looking at a superstar. A CF with a .950 OPS that plays decent defense.

by regfairfield on Oct 6, 2010 7:53 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree after I did my research as well. I guess I thought he was a decent hitter power wise, but not great. I guess he is a lot better than I thought.

It’d help if they didn’t play the Yankees every year! I don’t know if they played them in the first round in the past 3 postseasons, but they have lost to them the last 3 times they have played.

Heard a stat today that the Twins have won game 1 in 2 of the past 3 post seasons against NY. They have never won game 2, 3, or 4.

If they WC would come out of the West every now and then, it would rule out them getting beat by NY in the 1st round!

yeah

I hate the Giants and the Phillies enough that I don’t give a flying fuck what the Braves and Reds may have done to the Dodgers in the past, I hope they win and get those assholes out of the playoffs.

The Dodgers beat the Yankees one day after Don Larsen’s perfect game in 1956.

Of course, they still last the series.

I though Larsen’s perfect game was the game that won the series for them. They did beat him earlier in the series, badly if I remember.

I cant bring myself to hate the Phillies..

Mainly because Charlie Manuel is so likeable.
He seems like the least articulate, down home country manager I’ve ever seen..but its endearing in a way.

It's easy to hate the Phillies

Just look at Shane Victorino’s rectum face…

I missed responding earlier

but I just want to say you guys are the best, and that I’m glad you’re not creepy old men who tell me the world’s going to end, or that they enjoy wearing women’s undergarments.

How about this stat

from Anthony Andro, Rangers beat writer:

6 times a pitcher has pitched at least 7 innings, struck out at least 10, walked 0 in a postseason game. #Rangers Cliff Lee has 3 of them.
