Dodgers Announce 2011 Spring Training Schedule

Dodgers Cubs CBR final score 031710

The Dodgers announced their 2011 spring training schedule today.  Among other things, they open Dodger Stadium with exhibitions against the Angels on Monday, March 28, and against the Mariners on Wednesday, March 30, with a game in Anaheim in between.  Here is the full exhibition schedule (games at Camelback Ranch in blue):

The Dodgers play 17 of their 30 Cactus League games at Camelback Ranch.  All times are 1:05pm local time unless otherwise noted, and are of course subject to change.  Tickets and more information can be found here.

This season, the Dodgers had 28 Cactus League games scheduled in 27 days, including three split-squad days and two days off (not counting the Taiwan trip). Next season, the Dodgers have 30 games in 30 days, including one split-squad day and one off day.

If you are planning a trip to Arizona, it looks like that first week has a lot of home games, and the Dodgers play six straight games at Camelback Ranch from March 19-24. But, in reality, all the parks are within 30-40 minutes of each other, so getting to a game won't be a problem no matter where you stay.

Strange

The mandatory date for all players to report by is still March 1, 2011. Pitchers and Catchers reporting day is February 11th (voluntary) and for other players it is February 18th.

I wonder if they will change this with the moving up the MLB season.

Keith, The NL West has the best pitching in baseball….And it will be this way for at least the next 2-3 years. How can you not agree?

Klaw
(1:26 PM) There’s way too much dreck at the back of NL West rotations for me to agree with that.

Well the only thing I'd disagree with is

MOSt teams in general have “dreck” at the back of their rotation. 5 great pitchers, very few teams have them right now. The top 3 starters for each NL West team (assuming Dodgers brought back Kuroda, of course) is pretty strong though. Looking at some of these AL playoff teams I’m not that impressed with guys beyond #2 or 3.

It's totally true, it's on the pitcher to regain composure and still get them out

On the other hand, it’s gotta be deflating and demoralizing to have a clear strike, not even a borderline strike, completely blown. Makes a pitcher not sure where they’re supposed to throw it after that.

Still, he needs to settle himself down and make a good pitch – again.

2. Who will be the Dodgers’ closer?

Outgoing manager Joe Torre said that, based on his conversations with Mattingly, the role will again be Jonathan Broxton’s to lose going into spring training. Unless the Dodgers find another closer from somewhere else — Francisco Rodriguez is expected to be the most notable one on the free-agent market, but the Dodgers probably can’t afford him — their only alternatives are Hong-Chih Kuo, who is dependable but can’t be used often enough to be a full-time closer, and Kenley Jansen, who still will have less than half a season of big league service and less than two years of pitching at all.

Yeah, it’s hard enough to overcome one bad play/call. To have to overcome two of them is asking a lot. The umpire gave the giants a 4th out, and the blown play by the 3b gave them a 5th out.

Rotoworld
Buster Posey finished 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored as the Giants grabbed Game 1 of the NLDS against the Braves.

Posey opened the fourth inning with a single to left field and was called safe on a controversial stolen base attempt a few moments later. He then scored when Cody Ross managed a base hit, giving the Giants all the ammunition they would need to grab a 1-0 series lead. Posey might win the NL Cy Young Award and has already put a stamp on San Francisco’s postseason run. What a year.

OT - Friend'ing semi famous people on Facebook is pretty awesome...

Not necessarily because they really are your friends (since they dont even know you)…but rather to actually find out semi-famous people actually live quite normal everyday lives.

I have one example of this.

Growing up, I watched the Nickelodean show All That (back in 94-97). I had this huge crush on Alisa Reyes – of that show. We’ll I find her on facebook and friend her, and of course she accepts bc she has like 2,000 friends. To my amazement, she’s posted alot of personal pictures of her apartment…I start looking at some of them…and I realize that I live in better accomodations than she does. Now she’s not that famous and probably didnt make much money from All That, but its like I expect every actor that ever appeared on a series or TV to be rich, famous, and unapproachable…but its really not the case. This girl is really down to earth, goes to Church, always posts about how she’s going to auditions and trying to get a break…Really cool stuff.

So strange to see someone you looked up to a kid (although her and I are the same age – 29)..and realize there really isnt that much different now.

by Joey Joe on Oct 7, 2010 10:11 PM PDT reply actions

Thats pretty cool.

I read today the girl that is the voice for Dora the Explorer may have gotten cheated out of some cash. She got paid around $5,200 per episode. Sounds like she is stealing from them.

Nickelodean estimates that Dora the Explorer has made $11B world wide. Holy Shit! That is $11,000,000,000.

She signed when she was young, but still. Pay that chick.
