Dodger Winter League Update

Dee Gordon continues to shine in the Puerto Rican Winter League.

Not a whole lot has changed since I lasted posted about the Dodgers Fall and Winter Leagues, but I figured it was time for an update anyways.  The AFL is now over, but it was already pretty much done when I did my last update.  The Caribbean Leagues will continue through December.  As always, you can find all of the Winter League Stats here.

Jerry Sands had a strong finish to the AFL, and finished the season with 3 homers, a .299 average, and a .410 OBP.

Trayvon Robinson had a little bit of a tougher time, ending his AFL year with a .250 average and way too many strikeouts.

Ivan De Jesus stayed consistent through his AFL stint, and had a .321 average when it was all said and done.

Scott Elbert got stronger as the AFL season progressed, and ended up with a 3.09 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 11.2 innings vs only 4 walks.

Javier Solano has thrown 8.1 innings in the Mexican Winter League, and has a 5.40 ERA.  Batters are hitting .273 against him.

Ronald Belisario continues to have a strong showing the Venezuelan Winter League with a 1.54 ERA through 11.2 innings.  However, his WHIP is 1.54 and batters are hitting .318 against him, so he must be getting a little lucky in terms of his ERA.

Alfredo Silverio has stayed hot, hitting .355 through 15 games and 31 at bats.  The bad news is that he doesn't have a homer and has only collected 1 RBI.

New 40 man roster player Hector Gimenez now has 7 homers in the Venezuelan Winter League through 35 games.  However, his .246 average and .779 OPS are slightly less impressive.

Pedro Baez, Jonathan Garcia, and Brian Cavazos-Galvez continue to have limited at bats in the winter leagues, so their numbers are not worth mentioning.

Finally, Dee Gordon has slowed down his torrid pace, but is still hitting .377 with a .946 OPS in the Puerto Rican Winter League.  The bad news is that he is only 8 out of 14 in SB attempts, and has made 9 errors in the field through 27 games.

Elbert’s line is easily the most impressive. The fact that Sands was forcing himself to go the other way everytime and still hit .299 is impressive as well.

Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life.

I think Trayvon will start in AA again and they’ll let newly acquired “depth” Anthony Jackson play CF for the Topes at first. Expect Robinson to get there by June or so.

AA?

TRob played very well in AA and there is no need for him to go backwards.
Didn’t this group appoint him as #2 prospect..the guys is going to AAA. in 2012 need TROB or Sands to be able to play LF with some MLB time in 2011.
Gordon will join TRob in AAA as well.

Brandon

Was I hallucinating in that Russ Mitchell video, or was he playing 3B? I seem to remember him playing 1B towards the end of the season with the big club.

He was playing 3rd base

he played 103 games at 3rd base in AAA, and 13 at 1st base. I don’t have the splits for when he played with the Dodgers, but I know he did play some 3rd in the MLB as well

see

without looking at stats and mainly just wondering out loud, I would want him to platoon with Blake or Loney or something but…that’s without really looking at the stats. Maybe I will do a (gasp) fanpost about this later, since…you know…I need to procrastinate really well.

Also, Jamie Gamer taking over 2B? Doing his utility thing?

Looks like Ohio State might pass Wisconsin in the BCS standings, which would put them in the Rose Bowl over the Badgers.

Do the computers have final say in who goes to which bowl or is that the bowl organizers themselves picking? My uneducated view seems like picking osu over Wisconsin has everything to do with sweet sweet cash not so much stats.

There is a 3-way tie atop the Big Ten, and the tiebreaker in this scenario will be highest BCS ranking in the final poll (next weekend). Ohio State and Wisconsin are going to be ridiculously close.

by Eric Stephen on Nov 28, 2010 10:44 AM PST up reply actions

The other team of Ohio State and Wisconsin will likely get a BCS at-large berth anyway.

by Eric Stephen on Nov 28, 2010 10:45 AM PST up reply actions

There are some automatic bids for converence winners

which will be decided by the BCS in case of tie, and I think there are a couple bids that are up to the BCS rankings, and everything after that is up to the bowls themselves.

I'm guessing he'll start in AA

but will move up to AAA during the season. Although with Hu being out of options, the only AAA option for SS might be Justin Sellers, so they might need him sooner if they don’t sign a SS to invite to spring training and Sellers gets hurt

by Brandon Lennox on Nov 28, 2010 9:29 AM PST up reply actions

Dee Gordon and Belasario....

Gordon’s SBP is horrible. He better get working on that and the errors if he even wants to make the club next year. Isn’t he suppose to be the Dodger’s top minor league prospect right now? We already know he can hit the ball, but sounds like he needs a little more fine tuning in other areas.

Good to see Belasario having a strong winter. Would love to see those walks go down. Hopefully dude is clean, no more cocaine! His absence and ineffectiveness really hurt the bullpen last year. It’s a must that he bounce back strong in 2011.

by The Real Pancho on Nov 28, 2010 11:00 AM PST reply actions

Gordon is not in the Dodgers plans for next year.

If Furcal gets 600 PA in 2011, we won’t see Gordon until ’13.

salary issues

create problems for Dodgers if Furcal is around in 2013….no way..
Gordon has played well enough AA makes no sense..he needs to play AAA and shore up D and improve basestealing.
Dodgers would be smart to give Gordon some exposure in ST this year.

by coloblue on Nov 28, 2010 1:14 PM PST up reply actions

regardless....

all I have seen of him was during spring training and I am looking forward to seeing him in the lineup everyday.

Any thoughts on who the Dodgers may chase after to fill the LF position? I think McCheap has more money than has has everyone believeing right now. the signing of Lilly, Kuroda and Garland is a good indidcations that things are moving forward.

by The Real Pancho on Nov 28, 2010 12:12 PM PST up reply actions

I was just looking at the payroll worksheet for 2012

and using the actual 2012 salaries, plus the current estimates, if Garland’s, Furcal’s, and Blake’s opions vest or are picked up, the 2012 payroll would already be in the range of $127M. Of course this will be more exact once we determine if anyone is going to be non-tendered, but still I thought that was an interesting number since it’s much higher than we’ve seen in recent years.

FYI Blake’s option is a club option, Garland’s vests with 190 IP in 2011, and Furcal’s option 600 PA in 2011. Also, with just 492 PA in 2011, Furcal’s 2012 salary will increase by $1.3M, which would push the 2012 total to over $128M

by Brandon Lennox on Nov 28, 2010 11:07 AM PST reply actions

I was going to say I don't think Blakes option gets picked up

but…
2012 free agent 3b
Casey Blake LAD *
Mark DeRosa SF
Greg Dobbs PHI
Edwin Encarnacion TOR

by nolander on Nov 28, 2010 11:24 AM PST up reply actions

I don't think Blake's option gets picked up either

but his 2012 salary would only be $6M, so with his buyout we are still over $120M if furcal’s and garland’s options vest. plus we’d probably have to spend to get another 3rd baseman to replace Blake

by Brandon Lennox on Nov 28, 2010 11:28 AM PST up reply actions

Right

I mean the difference between keeping him and letting him go is 4.5 mil, and honestly there aren’t many(if any) other options at 3b in 2012. Depends to be seen how he plays this year though.

Beginning to feel like the 1997-2003 Fox era….
Over spending on average players.
Limited downside, limited upside…paying a premium to ensure 82-88 wins.

by Joey Joe on Nov 28, 2010 12:28 PM PST up reply actions

funny though cause Fox just didn’t know what they were doing, but McCourt is a desperate debtor

by Josie Becker on Nov 28, 2010 12:36 PM PST up reply actions

Fox got into trouble mainly by spending lots of money on the wrong players.
Karros, Devon White, Darren Dreifort, Mark Grudzielanek….spending premium dollars on slightly above average players..instead of spending it on true superstars really hurt the team.

I see that same vicious cycle starting to show itself with the current Dodger management. There’s no longer the cheap talent on the team…but there’s no superstars either. So you end up with a team of veterans that are collectively expensive, but no superstars and no payroll flexibility. Its a tough situation.

You either need to up payroll to sign superstar talent…or be willing to make the Loduca/Encarnacion for Penny/Choi type deals to become more efficient. McCourt/Colletti dont make me confident of either.

by Joey Joe on Nov 28, 2010 12:44 PM PST up reply actions

They also had a worse GM than even Coletti. Not even close.

3b 2012 options

Although challenging, all the more reason if the Dodgers could swing it and get Beltre back. With Beltre you have the chance to at least hit 25 HR and plus defense. The other infielders coming up for the Dodgers on the farm are speed and contact hitters, De Jesus and Gordon. I

If you figure that Furcal by 2012 may have some decline, Beltre would be a great anchor. Uribe is not a bad alternative. But will the Dodgers overpay. Outside of the Giants my prediction is that any other team that signs him will have to pay 18million over three years.

If what we need is 1 Superstar

If we don’t want to overpay for slightly above average players-a nice argument that Joey Joey makes than what do we do this year. Is Carl Crawford really worth 20 million per for 6 years?

Werth will be sloppy seconds, but he is older and his power will diminish once he leaves Philly. I still say Beltre provides the most options for the Dodgers for this year and going forward. But is he worth 18 million per year for 4 years? Oakland has already offered 54 million for three years.

They have the pitching to compete, and that was before Javy. Stanton and Morrison are going to get a full year on the team to do even more damage. I wouldn’t be shocked to see them right there with the Phillies and Braves at the end of next season.

The problem with Bourne is that he’s now entering his arbitration years. Paying a guy 3,5, and then 8 million for the next three years to hit replacement level offense isn’t that appealing.

Also, its the “lets get another leadoff hitter to replace Raffy when Raffy is still here mentality” that the Dodgers seem to get over the last year that bothers me.

by Tripon on Nov 28, 2010 4:06 PM PST up reply actions

by Michael White on Nov 28, 2010 4:12 PM PST up reply actions

My thoughts are that we would have to give up the farm for Upton.

Sending them Loney and 2 prospects probably won’t get him.

Don’t know how I feel about that.

by keithc13 on Nov 28, 2010 4:14 PM PST up reply actions

If we get Uribe I think we should get someone with speed becuase we have Lopes as 1B coach. Then we would have speed at the top of the lineup to put pressure on the defense and allow Kemp and Ethier to drive them in. I think Ethier and Kemp will have the best seasons of their career next year.

I would rather see Matsui be a cripple in LF or another semi-decent option in LF and go cheap in 2nd (combo of Carroll/DeJesus) than spend actual money ‘upgrading 2nd base’.

signing Uribe isn’t going to be that much of an upgrade over Theriot. We need to do better moves than that.

by Tripon on Nov 28, 2010 4:08 PM PST up reply actions

Ya, you need to school those backward rubes.

As for Clayton, they should do it, but the front office’s M.O seems to be to push problems out until later. Besides, the team has had some pretty rough experiences last year in locking up Broxton and Kemp who immediately sucked (which probably cost LAD money.)

by Michael White on Nov 28, 2010 4:17 PM PST up reply actions

I doubt

they consider it this year unless Kershaw wants to give them a discount.

by bhsportsguy on Nov 28, 2010 5:08 PM PST up reply actions

Right

Nobody here is saying, “screw Dunn, let’s get Uribe!” But seeing as how Dunn won’t be happening and accepting that reality, Uribe is not a bad pickup.

by Michael White on Nov 28, 2010 4:13 PM PST up reply actions

Beltre, Dunn, Werth, and Crawford

Any one of those hitters would be perfect in the lineup and can have a huge impact. I doubt we’ll end up with any of them, but that’s what I think Colletti should be focusing on instead of Uribe. He’s a complement, not a centerpiece.

Nothing is ever easy.

by drulenarendes on Nov 28, 2010 4:16 PM PST up reply actions

You can realistically blame NC for not “focusing.” The others are probably well outside the club’s price range.

Uribe has been a MUCH better hitter than Theriot the past two seasons.

BTW, I don’t think a move like this means the team wouldn’t go after a Matsui or Magglio type.

by Michael White on Nov 28, 2010 4:10 PM PST up reply actions

Uribe is much better than Theriot. He wouldn’t cost much more and is way better than Theriot.

This would be the only way I would take Uribe

if it doesn’t affect the Dodgers’ chances of getting an elite hitter.

I would love to get Uribe and Crawford. Crawford probably won’t happen but would be great hitting after Furcal. Imagine a lineup of Furcal, Crawford,Ethier,Kemp,Loney,Uribe,Blake and Martin. If we got Crawford it would sure shut up the people that hate McCourt.

Highly doubt that, unless he’s non-tendered and resigned to something less. There simply is nothing better available, and Barajas is a nice backup/platoon C but a horrible everyday player.

by Maddz on Nov 28, 2010 4:26 PM PST up reply actions

Does it need to set for a particular denomination, or can it just be based on a sermon.

Meaning can it have a couple of stories that are personal that wrap around and back to the meaning of the sermon?

I have only been in a couple of churches in my life. FBC in my home town and FFWBC in my wifes hometown.

In those 2 churches, the pastor spends the whole time preaching “at” everyone.

I now attend a non-denom church. The pastors have a lot of freedom to be real and tell a lot of stories and that make the point of the sermon easier to follow.

My pastor wore a Razorback jersey today bc he lost a bet.

Agree with the second part. And I also think an undefeated TCU should be ranked above a one loss team. However, I am not too big on TCU, and their schedule was a complete joke. I would fully expect the Badgers to handle them.

I think it’s kind of bullshit that Michigan State isn’t going to the Rose Bowl. But that’s the tiebreaker these days.

by Michael White on Nov 28, 2010 5:54 PM PST up reply actions

well you’d have to argue that Michigan St would also theoretically beat Ohio St. since they didn’t play each other this year but have the same record

by Josie Becker on Nov 28, 2010 5:55 PM PST up reply actions

I know. It just sucks that MSU beat Wisconsin, both have 1 conference loss, and Wisconsin is going to the Rose. It is what it is though. Back in the day, Michigan State would have gone since their Rose Bowl drought was the longest.

One of the tie breakers used to be that the team that has been the longest since their last appearance would go.

two SEC teams “ranked” ahead of Alabama who also finished behind them in the standings, would probably be unprecedented.

Currently

there are 8 automatic qualifiers, the 6 conference champions, a Non-AQ conference champion who is ranked in the BCS Top 14 (or 12 can’t remember and a team that is in the Top 4 but is not already qualified by being a conference champion or a Non-AQ qualifier.

That leaves only two spots for the at-large teams and of all the qualified teams, Ohio State and Arkansas would appear to be the most likely.

It's a long complicated boring story or debate

but imho they were a 3 year project when he inherited them and while he still has some things to learn, it’s more that their best defensive players have aged to the point where they can’t help any more (like Dawkins) while their younger D players aren’t ready or are injured (like Dumervil). They have had some problems with consistency on offense, too, and blame can be spread around, but I think he needs one more year and one more good draft before he’s officially given a fair shake.

Jets fans were ready to cut Eric Mangini loose after a terrible 2nd season (and after he’d already crashed in Cleveland) and now everyone’s happy dappy. Browns probably regret firing some guy named Bill Belichick for that matter. But obviously if they go south the rest of the year and then get off to poor start next season (if there IS a next season) he’ll be let go, no doubt. But my guess is the owner is more patient than an angry fan base, and that’s probably a good thing. They definitely need to focus on defense in the next draft though. I think he spent too many picks on offense this past draft (though I like those players) and is now paying for it. And yeah, Bradford looks great. Any doubts about him should be put to rest by now.

2 weeks ago for one ;-)

he threw a TD and ran for another. He’s gotten some looks off and on but despite what some fans think there’s no way he’s ready to be a full time starter. it’s a complicated offense and he has a lot to learn. tho it’d be tempting to get his running ability in there since one problem has been the OL’s ability to protect consistently. (Orton does take too long to get rid of it sometimes but Tebow would make other rookie mistakes instead) So… next year would be my guess, or maybe end of the season.

I wonder if we are going after Pat Burrell next?Seems like the theme for offense so far this offseason is to go after Giants.Huff and now Uribe. I would like to get some more power in LF. Maybe trade for Josh Willingham or Luke Scott.

by dodgers4life on Nov 28, 2010 7:25 PM PST reply actions

Huff himself seemed to debunk the Rosenthal report that the Dodgers made an offer to him.

by Eric Stephen on Nov 28, 2010 7:29 PM PST up reply actions

What do you think about Willingham or Scott? Both guys have good power and can play LF. I’d be happy if we got one of them and Uribe. Those aren’t splashy moves but are very good ones and would help the middle of our lineup to go with Kemp,Ethier, and Loney.

by dodgers4life on Nov 28, 2010 7:34 PM PST up reply actions

Wouldn’t mind either one, but I don’t expect the Dodgers to go after either one, nor do I know what Baltimore or Washington would want in return.

I wouldn’t mind at all if the Dodgers went after Burrell. He isn’t going to get more than a one-year deal, and will likely be relatively cheap.

I like Juan Uribe in that he has power and is better than Ryan Theriot, so he’d fit nicely at 2B, and can easily slide over to SS or 3B if needed. It’s all about cost with Uribe, to me. I don’t want to give him 3/$18m or anything like that. Maybe 2/$10m would work.

by Eric Stephen on Nov 28, 2010 7:33 PM PST up reply actions

Uribe’s interesting. He’s been great to the Giants but committing to a guy that gives you a .310 OBP in a good year and was almost out of baseball two years ago is frightening.

by regfairfield on Nov 28, 2010 7:42 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah

Uribe hit .238/.278/.408 from 2006-2008. I would not feel comfortable with a three-year deal at all, but I figure he’s getting at least two years from somebody. Could be scary.

by Eric Stephen on Nov 28, 2010 7:46 PM PST up reply actions

As someone that always had Juan Uribe in fantasy baseball when he was on the White Sox, I really don’t want Juan Uribe.

by regfairfield on Nov 28, 2010 7:52 PM PST up reply actions

Maybe Uribe is much higher on the Exhibit list than we thought in the case that the AL is better than the NL.

by Eric Stephen on Nov 28, 2010 7:53 PM PST up reply actions

As much as I hate that argument, that is a strong, strong point.

The NL: So bad Juan Uribe can succeed.

by regfairfield on Nov 28, 2010 7:56 PM PST up reply actions

Third Base: So bad Casey Blake can succeed.

by Joey Joe on Nov 28, 2010 8:02 PM PST up reply actions

When the alternative is Ryan Theriot…and his .335 OBP…I’ll take Uribe’s .310 and 20 bombs.

by Joey Joe on Nov 28, 2010 8:01 PM PST up reply actions

Could also be .257 or .284 OBP with 20 bombs, like with the White Sox in 2006-2007, or .296 with 7 bombs in 2008.

by Eric Stephen on Nov 28, 2010 8:05 PM PST up reply actions

Would still be a better OPS+

then what Theriot is gonna give us. By like 3, but still.

LAST SEASON, I led this team in ninth-inning doubles in the month of August!

by nolander on Nov 28, 2010 8:40 PM PST up reply actions

Theriot is still the better player with those kind of numbers…

by regfairfield on Nov 28, 2010 8:55 PM PST up reply actions

Uribe makes sense

I think Willingham would be great but don’t think the Nats and Dodgers match up. Some on this site would say Loney and a prospect for Willingham but don’t see the Dodgers doing that.

Assuming Beltre is out of the question despite the fact that he would be a great fit, I would also consider Berkman, especially with a low base. Uribe plus Berkman would be great. I think Pat the bat is do for a fall…..If his agent is smart, if Uribe signs away form the Giants it is going to cost. I don’t think 2 years for 10 million gets it done.

by wineracquet on Nov 28, 2010 7:36 PM PST reply actions

I think 2yrs/12M gets it done for Uribe. I’m curious to see what Ned does at the winter meetings. If we get Willingham or someone like that it would give us good balance throughout our lineup.

I just like to say that I'm not in favor of a multi-year deal like Rosenthal is advocating for Uribe.

We might as well sign Orlando Hudson for one more year if we’re saying fuck it and signing ex-Giants.

by Tripon on Nov 28, 2010 8:11 PM PST reply actions

1 advantage of signing ex-Giants..

is that theoretically you are making the Giants worse…bc they dont have anyone better than Uribe to play.

by Joey Joe on Nov 28, 2010 8:14 PM PST up reply actions

Juan Uribe would be such an Giant asshole that he would hit .225 and field like crap when he became a Dodger. We’ll find out years later that Brian Seabean gave him an extra $5 million to suck in 2011.

by Tripon on Nov 28, 2010 8:16 PM PST up reply actions

The Giants really have no one to play at 2nd base behind Uribe.
They could hope Derosa gets healthy and maybe play him there…or emmanuel burris who sucks.

I’d really be surprised if they dont resign Uribe.

by Joey Joe on Nov 28, 2010 8:19 PM PST up reply actions

Freddy Sanchez is under contract for $6 million in 2011 (as is DeRosa)

by Eric Stephen on Nov 28, 2010 8:21 PM PST up reply actions

Oh forgot about him.
He’ll definitely play 2b.

SS – i’d assume the Giants will resign either Uribe or Renteria…but not both. Still doubt they’d trust Burriss there.

by Joey Joe on Nov 28, 2010 8:24 PM PST up reply actions

Looking at Burris 2010...Giants may just drop him off the roster..

He is a former 1st round pick – 33rd overall pick in 2006.

But he hit .282/.334/.337 in the PCL last year.
He’ll be 26 next year.

by Joey Joe on Nov 28, 2010 8:27 PM PST up reply actions

Coming to AT&T Park

I can’t really blame you.

by Eric Stephen on Nov 28, 2010 8:45 PM PST up reply actions

no

I mean I basically expect everyone who played good for the giants offense last year with the exception of posey to regress next year. However, keep in mind uribe won’t cost more then 6 million, and theriot is getting around 4 in arb if it goes to that.

LAST SEASON, I led this team in ninth-inning doubles in the month of August!

by Tommy Blackjack on Nov 28, 2010 8:51 PM PST up reply actions

The only reason I want Uribe, is because he’s not Ryan Theriot and will cost equal or marginally more. I just hope Donnie isn’t sucked in by the power and hits him 8th instead of 2nd.

Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life.

by G.Scott on Nov 28, 2010 8:52 PM PST up reply actions

I like Uribe. I think he would be a good fit. If he signs soon then we will have our starting rotation and our 2B before the winter meetings. I wonder what we will do during the winter meetings. Good start to the offseason. We still need one more bat,a C and a RP.

by dodgers4life on Nov 28, 2010 9:01 PM PST up reply actions

Why do we need a reliever? There is no reason to spend any money on such up-and-down pitchers when they aren’t cracking our top three in the bullpen anyway.

by Eric Stephen on Nov 28, 2010 9:04 PM PST up reply actions

In the abstract, I wouldn’t mind it if the team signs Mo Rivera or Soriano.

by Tripon on Nov 28, 2010 9:06 PM PST up reply actions

It's obvious

Ned wants a lefty. We’ll end up overpaying for Feliciano, Oliver, Rhodes, or some other reheated option.

by kinbote on Nov 28, 2010 9:08 PM PST up reply actions

I’d give Pedro Feliciano 2mils..
He’s a reliable Loogy.

by Joey Joe on Nov 28, 2010 9:10 PM PST up reply actions

At this point

isn’t Sherrill a “buy low” option? God knows he owes us . . .

by kinbote on Nov 28, 2010 9:11 PM PST up reply actions

I dont think the Dodgers can non-tender Sherrill but then resign him to a lower rate. Doesnt a team give up negotiating rights for a certain length of time when they do that?

by Joey Joe on Nov 28, 2010 9:14 PM PST up reply actions

No

there is no such rule anymore.

by Eric Stephen on Nov 28, 2010 9:14 PM PST up reply actions

I recall someone here making the point that he might be worth a look at a cheap salary. I don’t disagree.

by kinbote on Nov 28, 2010 9:17 PM PST up reply actions

He'll likely get 3-4 mils tho..

He has a career 8.2 K/9.

Last year in 62.2 ip…he only gave up 1 homer.

by Joey Joe on Nov 28, 2010 9:11 PM PST up reply actions

I think Ned likes him.

by kinbote on Nov 28, 2010 9:13 PM PST up reply actions

Feliciano was drafted by the Dodgers in 1995 and spent 6 years in the organization. He was granted free agency and bounced around for awhile before making it.

by Joey Joe on Nov 28, 2010 9:15 PM PST up reply actions

I’m not sure I remember that. I’m still pining for Hanrahan!

by kinbote on Nov 28, 2010 9:18 PM PST up reply actions

Broxton struggled last year. Kuo has a history of arm injuries. Belisario missed a lot of time last year. Jansen is still learning how to pitch. Another RP would make our pitching even better.

by dodgers4life on Nov 28, 2010 9:08 PM PST up reply actions

Non-elite relievers are not to be paid for.

by Eric Stephen on Nov 28, 2010 9:08 PM PST up reply actions

I still like the idea of Russ Martin back. Maybe his injury will be a blessing in disguise as it’ll force him to get rest more often and could lead to him signing a friendly 2 year deal.

Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life.

by G.Scott on Nov 28, 2010 9:05 PM PST up reply actions

I want Martin back too, and stand by my unpopular DT position that he will not be nontendered.

by kinbote on Nov 28, 2010 9:06 PM PST up reply actions

I dont think its unpopular.
I’d be shocked if Martin is non-tendered, especially after not offering arbitration to Barajas.

by Joey Joe on Nov 28, 2010 9:08 PM PST up reply actions

If The Dodgers Sign Uribe...

THAT’S “the bat” (singular, not plural) Colletti said he wanted to add. There won’t be another one.

by CanuckDodger on Nov 28, 2010 9:05 PM PST reply actions

If we go into the season with Gibbons and Uribe in the lineup, we’re basically punting. I still say Ned signs a “name” left fielder.

by kinbote on Nov 28, 2010 9:12 PM PST up reply actions

I still believe Scotty Pods will be the starting LF’er…i’ll believe that until he signs with another team.

by Joey Joe on Nov 28, 2010 9:17 PM PST up reply actions

If Pods is the LF, that means we signed a bopper at 2b. Uribe? Noooooo!

National League

How many times teams that have changed ballparks since Dodger Stadium opened

Giants – 1
Padres – 1
Rockies – 1
Astros – 2
Brewers – 1
Cardinals – 2
Pirates – 2
Reds – 2
Braves – 2
Mets – 2
Nationals – 3
Phillies – 2

Three teams have not changed home fields since Dodger Stadium opened, Cubs, Marlins and Diamondbacks.

Interestingly almost

everyone of those teams shared a facility for one time or another with an NFL team.

Giants/49ers – ended when Giants moved to AT&T
Padres/Chargers ended when Padres moved to Petco
Rockies/Broncos ended when Broncos moved to Coors
Astros/Oilers ended when Oilers moved to Tennessee
Brewers/Packers ended when Packers stopped playing two games in Milwaukee each year
Cardinals/Cardinals ended when Cardinals moved to Arizona (Rams did play one year there in 1995)
Pirates/Steelers ended Pirates moved to PNC
Reds/Bengals ended when Bengals moved to Paul Brown Stadium
Braves/Falcons ended when Falcons moved to Georgia Dome
Mets/Jets ended when Jets moved to Giants Stadium
Phillies/Eagles ended when Eagles moved to Lincoln Financial Field

Important Deadlines this week

Tuesday November 30th 9:00 p.m. PST – Last day for players to accept or decline arbitration offer
Thursday December 2nd 9:00 p.m. PST – Deadline for MLB club to tender (offer) a contract for players under their control

Following week
Monday – Thursday December 6th-9th Winter Meetings in Lake Buena Vista, Florida
Thursday December 9th (usually in the morning) – Rule 5 draft (teams can still add free agent signings and remove mlb players via non-tender or DFA but cannot change minor league reserve list until after draft)

Not a fan

of Uribe’s and not really looking forward to overpaying for his services. I probably wouldn’t hate it if we brought him in, but I think we would be paying for what is perceived as a great player based upon last season. I still think if we want someone versatile with some pop, go with Bill Hall who will likely come cheaper.
