Dodgers Sign Matt Guerrier To Three-Year Contract
The Dodgers strategy in 2011 appears to be to try and win as many 3-2 games as possible, as they have signed yet another pitcher. The Dodgers have signed reliever Matt Guerrier, formerly of the Twins, to a three-year contract, according to Erik Boland of New York Newsday and confirmed by Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated and Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times. Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports the deal will be for $12 million total.
Guerrier, 32, had a 3.17 ERA in 71 innings with the Twins last season, but his FIP (4.23) and xFIP (4.53) were much higher. His strikeout rate is 5.9 batters per nine innings in his career, and has been 5.5 and 5.3 the past two seasons.Guerrier has appeared in 70 or more games in each of the past four seasons, leading the American league in games pitched in 2008 and 2009. In the past four years, Guerrier has pitched in 302 games, more than every other major league pitcher except for LOOGY Pedro Feliciano.
He made $3.15 million with the Twins last season. Considering that Scott Downs, with only a cup of coffee of closer experience, signed a three-year, $15 million deal with the Angels last week, don't be surprised if Guerrier's deal is in that range. Guerrier has had exactly one save for five straight seasons.
Signing middle relievers to multi-year contracts aren't the best idea, especially when the bullpen is already full of arms. Seriously, why give any money to a reliever when Jonathan Broxton, Hong-Chih Kuo, and Kenley Jansen are at the back end of the bullpen? To me, this signals that Broxton is on the market. If so, I hope he can fetch an actual hitter who can play left field.
Guerrier would have been a Type A free agent, but he was not offered arbitration by Minnesota, so the Dodgers won't have to forfeit their second-round draft pick next year. At the very least, some corresponding move will have to be made by the Dodgers before the deal becomes official, because their 40-man roster is full. Most likely, that will mean John Lindsey will be designated for assignment.

He’s a reliever with a 5.4 K/9, that throws 90. How is he different from Corey Wade?

I think he is a very solid reliever
I don’t think we had a pressing need for bullpen help but then again maybe this signals something bigger is on the horizon. Let’s pull the trigger on moving Loney/Broxton for the most power they could possibly net. Would everyone be okay with that?

I can understand Ned's worry about the bullpen
I can understand Ned’s worry about the bullpen
1. Kuo’s arm always has problems at the end of spring
2. No idea if Broxton can bounce back
3. No idea if Belisario will show up and if he does will he show up sober
4. Elbert has to make the team as the 2nd lefty, unless Ned further shocks us and now signs another left handed relief pitcher
5. Jansen – untested in Ned’s eyes
But dammit, three years.
You can be (incompetent and a nice guy), you can be (competent and an asshole), but if you are an (asshole and incompetent), your only future is to be Keith's boss otherwise you are unemployable
Yeah, as I said in the last thread, it’s fun to think that this the prelude to a deal for a hitter*, but more than likely Ned just sees him as replacing Belli. He’s said all winter that he wanted to add a bullpen arm. The psychological trauma of watching Sherrill was too much for the man. At least we didn’t give up a prospect for him.

I would have preferred 2 years
but I’m not going to wring my hands over this. It seems every Dodger move this offseason (except re-signing Kuroda, and to a lesser extent Garland and Padilla) gets crucified here. He is a really reliable guy, moving to the NL and a bunch of pitchers’ parks. He gets outs, so what if he’s not Mr. K/9.
Plus, we don’t give up a prospect or a pick. I do hope a hitter is coming though.
Overqualified in an underqualified world since 2008.
I'm fine with him helping the bullpen
like most people it’s the length of contract and overall cost that is a concern, given other needs. But I don’t see the problem with adding him to make the pen stronger. Depends also on what moves may go with it. Overall I’ve liked all their pitching signings, and the Lilly, Garland and Padilla contracts all seem reasonable, even a bargain.
Yah also concern over lack of help for offense this offseason which seemed a more glaring need at this point. But admittedly FA options are limited there.
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
Probably
because it just seems more money spent on the bullpen is less then what we can spend on the outfield. I’ll just use Johnny Damon as an example, we are looking at Bill Hall, I expect the difference in salary between Bill Hall and Johnny Damon is Matt Guerrier. I’d say most of us would rather have Damon.

Yep 3 years = lame
Ned likes to do what it takes to get his guy. Even if it means stupid contract length. I do want to wait to see the actual $ amounts before critiquing it. And as I said I like Guerrier overall.
And wonder if this means a trade is a brewing (not necessarily to Brewers).

As far as Martin goes
my own sense is that everyone’s right. In that he clearly misjudged the market and his own value in it.
And that he also clearly (to me) wanted to play closer to home on the East Coast. So he got burned by market but probably still happy to end up where he ended up.

This is insane
Who the fuck gives a declining setup man a 3-year deal?
The team is spending money, which is nice, but they’re not getting any better.
I disagree
They are getting better, just not in any of the areas of weakness.
We turned 3 vacant rotation spots into Kuroda, Lilly and Garland.
We turned Jeff Weaver into Vicente Padilla.
We turned Ramon Troncoso into Matt Guerrier.
We turned Ryan Theriot into Juan Uribe.
We turned AJ Ellis into Rod Barajas and Dioner Navarro.
The problem is we turned Xavier Paul into Jay Gibbons and seem to be okay with that.
Do, do, do you have it?
devils advocate:
Gibbons could really outplay his contract…maybe not but I would say he is more likely to give us the offensive production of a $3m player (in limited playing time) rather than not earning his $675K
"They will never ketchup to all of the energy that I've mustard"
I think we’ll find that the third year was to get him away from the Red Sox. Ned’s often used an extra year to get his guy, starting with JP.

And maybe you don’t get Beltre and just stick with Dunn. But I hardly consider Barajas a starting catcher, and you can fill swingman in other areas.

Indeed
as we saw last year. Some depth in the pitching dept. is important. The 5th starter ugliness and some terrible relief did the Dodgers in early in the season, before the hitting went south in 2nd half. They needed all those things.

If the Dodgers don't deal a pitcher
and if Belisario actually shows up on time, they will have almost no battles for pitching jobs in spring training:
Kershaw
Bills
Kuroda
Lilly
Garland
Broxton
Kuo
Guerrier
Jansen
Belisario
Padilla
Hawksworth
I suppose the out-of-options Hawk could be fighting for his MLB life, but that is odd.
Elbert isn’t on that list, but I find it hard to believe he wouldn’t at least be on the team. However, Eric’s staff is already at 12, and I can’t imagine them possibly carrying more than 12. With guys like Belisario, Padilla and Guerrier able to go multiple innings, they may even be able to get away with an 11 man staff if they decide to platoon up the lineup.
Do, do, do you have it?

Elbert Fan is laughing out load right now
he’s the only hard throwing lefty in the system currently slated for bullpen work other then Kuo. I don’t understand the comment. He just finished pitching for the manager in a style that had to open the managers eyes. His one problem was control, if they did something to solve that, you have a very valuable pitcher. Expecting the guy to be the 2nd lefty out of the bullpen does not seem irrational, it seems like the only obvious answer.
You can be (incompetent and a nice guy), you can be (competent and an asshole), but if you are an (asshole and incompetent), your only future is to be Keith's boss otherwise you are unemployable
So he struck out a few kids in some AFL innings big deal.
You would really send him out there to face a big lefty in the 8th inning with 2 on in April? No way. He needs to go back and prove himself for a couple months at ABQ. Prove it to Ned and Donny that he has a pair. Show he can do it there, and he would earn his way back.
better to see if he can do it in April than pay 4mil for someone we may not need.

Yes it's quite funny to
hear you stick up for any man named Elbert, but honestly, I know the bullpen is full and Scott will really have to prove himself in ST and maybe beyond that to get back to the bigs. In saying that, our bullpen is overloaded and I can’t see how some or all of the guys that aren’t locks, aren’t on the trading block. So Scott and others could end up who knows where.
Not necessarily Elbert
but Leach, NRI, ?.
I could see Mattingly making a push for a second lefty, probably at the expense of one of those named above (Hawksworth?). A lot can happen between now and opening day.

My first job
at 14 was keeping score in bowling leagues. My two older brothers pretty much lived at the alley, both could keep a 190 average in their leagues. One has bowled a 300. I never put the time in they did, as I had this terrible preference to save my money then spend it on bowling.

To Make Me Feel Better
Can someone name something Guerrier is good at, because I’m looking really hard and not finding anything.
@andrewngrant
He’s kind of a groundball pitcher, but he’s in like the 65th percentile.
@andrewngrant
by regfairfield on Dec 15, 2010 9:08 AM PST up reply actions
FWIW
this was Ben Nicholson Smith’s write up on MLBTR:
Guerrier led the league in appearances in 2008-09 and pitched in 74 games this past season. Not only is he durable, he is a ground ball pitcher with a career 2.7 K/BB ratio against righties. That figure drops against lefties (1.5 K/BB), but he induces more ground balls against them.
However, defense independent pitching stats like FIP and xFIP suggest Guerrier’s 3.17 ERA would have been higher if he had been less lucky in 2010. He posted solid ratios of 5.3 K/9 and 2.8 BB/9 last year, but both rates were better in 2009.
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
(2nd part also a quote)
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
So
He’s the guy who will come in after one of the younger bullpen arms gives up a baserunner. Guerrier will smokejump in, Weaver-like, and try to induce the DP. Can he pitch more than one inning per appearance?
Doesn't look like he's done that very often
but it could be a product of him having so many appearances.
http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/guerrma02.shtml
Do, do, do you have it?
He can pitch a lot of innings, but almost everything else in that blurb is wrong.
He’s not a ground ball pitcher, and a 5.3 K/9 is horrible for a starter, let alone a reliever.

Is that a reflection of the changing in pitching
or that hitters just strike out more.
It’s like looking at rebound rates in the NBA, the biggest reason why you don’t see 18-20 rebound per game players, teams take fewer shots about 20% less than they did back in the early 60s – 80s.
The point is Steve Howe struck out more batters, relative to his league, than did Matt Guerrier.

There was one thing about NC that I liked, is that he stayed out of the FA market for relievers. He might overpay in terms of trading for them, but he wasn’t handing out millions on the market. So now that’s fucked. Next year will be like 2003, except closer to 80 wins than 90.
I’d rather spend money than prospects.
You’d rather trade a McDonald everytime we need 2 months of relief pitching instead of spending a couple million?

True
I’d rather spend money then prospects. Even if you didn’t think of McDonald as a starter he should have been able to handle the Guerrier role.

The fact that the Dodgers have no coveted prospects is directlyattributable to the “trade prospects instead of cash” approach that Ned has used the past few years. Very frustrating.
Well
to be fair, the shine was off just about everyone aside from maybe Josh Bell (who had among the worst debuts ever in MLB history) and of course, Carlos Santana.
Especially since you hardly ever get to trade A-ball prospects for MLB relievers. You end up trading your AA or AAA prospects that you have invested time and money into anyway, you might as well stick to your investment and sign a stopgap.
I’m always a fan of adding assets instead of using them as trade pieces. Signing Guerrier gives us the flexibility to trade from our bullpen strengths over the next two years. And considering what two marginal relief pitchers has been fetching in trades, it’s probably worth it.
Do, do, do you have it?
1/4 of the TBLA Position
which I’m going to guess is shared by Eric but may not be. We do not agree with Reg that Guerrier is useless, we just want some money spent on the offense and other then Uribe nothing has been. If Ned turns this into a functional left fielder then great, if we simply built a kick ass pitching staff and hope to score runs with the current lineup, then good luck because I can’t sign off on that plan.
You can be (incompetent and a nice guy), you can be (competent and an asshole), but if you are an (asshole and incompetent), your only future is to be Keith's boss otherwise you are unemployable
It's hard to argue after last year's anemic offense
that there was a need in pitching particularly when your numbers were not that bad. But as has been pointed out before, a lot of starts were given to Haegar, Ely, and Monk and while Ely had a good start, most of those were on the short side (less than 6 IP) and with an unreliable middle (due ineffectiveness of Sherrill, Belisario’s issues namely) and then moving Broxton to set up for Kuo to close, just kept that area unsettled.
I don’t know if they should have just kept Theriot, and then signed an outfielder for 16-18M for two years , maybe that would look better on paper but net about the same thing in the end.
Great Question
and I don’t have a ready answer.

by regfairfield on Dec 15, 2010 9:46 AM PST up reply actions
The problem with Quentin/Willingham is that they are flawed players with injury histories that might not make them the answer we desire. Which of course could mean trading Broxton a near disaster (not that Brox is without warts).
Like Phil says, it’s a tough call. I’d like to think if we trade Broxton we can get a better bat, but that might be wishful thinking.
by Eric Stephen on Dec 15, 2010 9:30 AM PST up reply actions
I’d rather trade Broxton for Quentin. Even before the Guerrier signing. We have enough depth in the bullpen and Broxton is all but gone after this season anyways.
That could be part of Ned’s thinking with Guerrier. Even if Broxton isn’t traded this season, there is stability and everyone moves up a slot next season.
I just want to know who is going to us out of the bases loaded jams now that Weaver is gone?

I updated the payroll worksheet, using the assumption that Guerrier will be paid 3/4/5. 2011 is at just over $110m right now.
Sure I’d rather spend the money on Guerrier than send over Withrow for him at the end of July but we’ve got a pretty set bullpen that at least IMO was not going to be a problem next year. I said before I wouldn’t begrudge Ned a second low cost lefty if he doesn’t trust Elbert yet, but we just didn’t need this. All the money we’ve spent could have gotten us a year of one of the free agent bats available. Or if you don’t want to give any of those guys 8 figures a year and I understand not wanting to, then we need to make some trades.
If our big LF get is some scrub that should be a bench player, our offense is going to suck.
FWIW
Bill Hall had the 9th highest ISO for LF with at least 350 ABs last year, above Braun and right below Huff.

It is interesting to note as Eric said earlier today
the only battle on the pitching side could be to fill that second lefty spot, maybe Belisario or Jansen are not locks to make the team and Hawksworth could end up on the outside looking in.
Pitching locks, 5 starters, Padilla, Broxton, Kuo Guerrier
Probables – Jansen, Beilsario
12th spot battle – Hawksworth, Elbert, NRIs
And now your NFL minute
After a tantalizing (and desperate) Thursday matchup of SF at SD, we can look forward to several big games this weekend:
3 Stars: Jax at IND; GB at NE.
4 Stars: PHI at NYG; NO at BALT; NYJ at PITT.
Guerrier
is French for “warlike” or “warrior”. (http://www.wordreference.com/fren/guerrier)
Any doubts as to why Ned signed him? He’s good in the heat of battle. That has to be in the press release.
Overqualified in an underqualified world since 2008.
Perrier is also a french brand name for a soft drink...

I have gotta believe that there is a deal coming for a LFer. I don’t believe for one second that front office looks at the roster as it exists and they all say that they are fine with some combination of Paul, Gibbons and Gwynn in LF. There is no way that is possible.
I agree, but — not to start the Bill Hall conversation all over again — but if the deal that is coming is Bill Hall… well, I’ll be upset.
Not so upset that I write any strongly worded letters, though. I reserve that kind of ire for AJ Pierzynski.

Martin sensible
I was too late for the Russell Martin discussion this morning, but this is how I see it, and I don’t think I saw anyone else say this:
I’m sure that Martin and his agent realized that the Dodgers’ offer of $4.2 million was (probably) the market rate, and the most they’d get from any team. Therefore the Dodgers were the only team that might pay more because of past history and because arbitration would get him a lot more (like $6 million). So it was worth asking for $5 million. If he doesn’t recover from injury, this will be his very last big payday, after anticipating that he’s have many, many years of ever larger salaries. His last chance. So it was worth it asking for $5 million. Worst case scenario was that the Dodgers don’t bite and he gets the same $4 million or so they were offering. And that’s what happened. It still makes sense that he did what he did. It wasn’t a miscalculation – just a chance at a bigger payday that didn’t materialize because Ned realized it wasn’t worth it. He still gets more or less the same amount from another team.
still dead to me

The Dodgers apparently have two kitties (pots of money) one for money to be spent on bad contracts and one for money to be spent on bad contracts. Not sure which kitty the money for this acquisition comes out of.
So Padilla, Garland and Kuroda are all bad contracts?
Or were you not just being funny and meant to type “good” one of those times?

yes to the funny part
or the “trying to be” part. :)
Was just trying to keep with the theme of the day.
I would probably sign Kuo to the 3 year contract that Matt Guerrier got knowing full well his arm might finally explode for the last time in ST.
That may seem like a small or ignorable point, but I totally agree. Just because you have money to spend doesn’t mean you have to spend it on new guys. So now the core of our team is Kershaw, Lilly, Uribe, & Guerrier?
Amazingly, those are the four players signed (well, not Kershaw, technically, yet) for 2013.

Best case scenario this spring assuming we do nothing else
1. Broxton comes back and imitates his 2010 1st half in April/May
2. Kuo leaves spring training with his arm intact and able to pitch
3. Jansen dominates spring training goes to AAA, does not quit, continues to dominate
4. Elbert continues to impress, gets to AAA, does not quit, continues to dominate
5. Belisario gets to spring on time, looks like 2009 Belisario
6. Lindblom bounces back from a winter of rest, rediscovers the stuff that impressed everyone in 2009 and finds life in the Isotope bullpen.
7. Troncoso rediscovers his sinker in AAA (The Isotope bullpen is kick ass)
8. Padilla takes to relief pitching like a baby to a nipple
9. Sands assaults AA pitching
10. Chris Withrow discovers how to pitch again
Based on all of those things happening the Dodgers do the following?
You can be (incompetent and a nice guy), you can be (competent and an asshole), but if you are an (asshole and incompetent), your only future is to be Keith's boss otherwise you are unemployable
so is Sands a lock to start in AA? Trayvon too?
I guess our lack of position prospects makes me want to rush what precious few we have throught the system regardless of whether its a good idea or not.

The roof at the Metrodome might not be finished in time for Monday night’s game. How could it not be finished? Just because it blew up like a trash bag after Thanksgiving; spewing turkey guts and gravy all over the driveway as you’re walking out to the trashcan in the morning. Take that, Barry Bonds and Reggie Jackson
ASU baseball was banned from the 2011 postseason by the NCAA.
Sometimes pro sports can be absurd
I just typed this sentence:
The Galaxy began the day by trading with Houston for the fifth and fourteenth picks in the re-entry draft, giving up a fourth round pick in 2014’s amateur Superdraft .
and I am now baffled that a GM could decide to trade for 2014 4th round pick in an amateur draft
Seems like a way to deny Free Agency.
Any player selected in Stage 1 will remain on the drafting Club’s 2011 budget at the option price or Bona Fide Offer price until April 1st, 2011. Clubs and players may not mutually renegotiate that price to a lower number until April 1st, 2011.
Clubs may not select their own players in Stage 1. Players will have the opportunity to negotiate contracts and sign with their previous clubs after Stage 1 is complete, through 2 p.m. ET on December 13th.
In Stage 2, clubs may select from players that are under contract and those not under contract. If a player is not under contract, the drafting club will be required to make a genuine offer to the player within seven days. In the event that an agreement cannot be reached between the drafting club and an out-of-contract player, the drafting club will hold the right of first refusal for that player in MLS. Clubs may select their own players in Stage 2 only after all other clubs have declined to select those players.
If a player is not selected in either stage of the Re-Entry Process, that player will be available on a first come first serve basis to all clubs.
http://www.insidesocal.com/soccer/2010/12/mls-announces-re-entry-draft-l.html
there used to be no free agency, if your club didn’t renew your contract they still had the rights to you. This is MLS’s way of putting those players back in the pool

When we hired people have enough experience to have received their degree(s) in the 70s/80s, we don’t give a crap where they got it from; their professional experience is what matters.

From Arash Markazi of ESPN on Twitter
If Joe Smith wants to make history he should wear No. 29. It’s the one number 00-35 never to be worn in Lakers history, dating back to 1948
because if you’re gonna make history, make sure it’s trivial

I have come to believe that the only reason Arash Markazi has a job is because he was able to score free tickets to Staples on a regular basis.
He’s that guy who is somehow at every single party, only nobody knows how he got there.

One has to wonder why
no has ever worn 29.
has any Dodger number never been worn that stops at 50?

Most of the 6-9 numbers are hardly worn just due to refs having to ID foul calls, unless they are Antonio Alfonseca.

I don’t have the media guide handy, but I think all the 0-50 numbers, at least, have been used at some point.

I'd bet they have
even up to 60 as well. Bet we could easily name a player for each number 51 – 60. Well, 59 is hard off the top of my head.

Barely related question because I thought Wilkin Ruan was number 62.

This Friday, 12/17
Going to see Tron then TBLA midnight bowling. Are all welcome to come to the movie as well. I have no idea what times the movie is playing.
Do, do, do you have it?

At 7 and 10 PM. I want to go see Tron.
Would seem like we should go at 7, get food, then go bowling.
Also, Gable House has karaoke in the bar.
Do, do, do you have it?
I vote Buffalo wild wings for food, but I can be persuaded otherwise, just seems the best for a group atmosphere (assuming this becomes a group thing)

I second this. If people decide against it, there’s always BJs and Jerry’s. The brewery next to Jerry’s is good too.

I think this might have gotten lost somewhere - on Martin's contract
1. This was not offering Martin arbitration that he could refuse, they would have been tendering a contract for a non-specified amount.
2. Out of the 150+ players that were tendered a contract or a FA offered arbitration, none of the players who did not settle before exchanging figures took less money than the year before. Even in cases where the player missed the whole year with injury, he received the same amount as had the previous amount.
3. Sure, the Dodgers could have put in a figure of let’s say 5M but that would be guaranteed, no incentives. If they were to put in $4.2M, unless Martin went crazy, and I mean really crazy, he would win his case.
4. So, that was the risk of tendering the contract, the Dodgers did not want to guarantee what Martin made last year (which also why the Yankees probably decided not to do the trade because they would have had to either risk tendering a contract with him or decide to let him be a free agent).
Bad idea jeans
Although it might be one of the more spectacular train wrecks we’ve seen in the league in recent memory…from Plan A to Plan Z, indeed. Are the Yankees that desperate for attention? They miss out on Lee, so they turn to the Ghost of Cubbie Past and sign Prior, and are looking at bringing in Zambrano and Wood? Crazy…
"The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing."
Big Z may be batshit crazy
but if the Cubs paid a chunk of his salary, Zambrano could be a good pickup.
After he rejoined the rotation, in August, he had a 1.41 ERA in 11 starts, allowing two runs or less 10 times, and three runs in the other game. His FIP was likely higher, as he had a 40/60 BB/K ratio, but he was still effective.

I'll say this
When he’s on, he’s fun to watch: filthy stuff and passion is always nice to see. I just don’t know how comfortable I’d be depending on him to adjust to the NYY pressure (i.e. Vasquez, Javier), and the expectations would be pretty high after the Lee debacle.
"The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing."
Maybe they can restructure him into a Guerrerian 3/$12m deal.

Keith Law, not a fan of the Guerrier signing
on ESPN (Insider):
The Dodgers are happy to let the gangrenous wound in left field fester, but thank goodness the seventh inning is locked down.
and
Free agency isn’t a good way to build a bullpen period, but doing it that way when the Dodgers’ amateur scouting team continues to stuff the organization with power arms is just nonsensical.
He said it better then we did
You can be (incompetent and a nice guy), you can be (competent and an asshole), but if you are an (asshole and incompetent), your only future is to be Keith's boss otherwise you are unemployable
He also says
Make Withrow a bullpen guy and can you give credit to the Dodgers scouting team for converting Jansen to a reliever. Belisario was found by their local Venezuelan scout. Currently on two of the proposed bullpen guys were originally signed as Dodgers (Kuo and Broxton).
I get and agree with his original premise but he shouldn’t make it seem like there are bullpen guys just sitting around to be used, Ned’s best course has been the NRI (Saito, Beimel, Seanez, Park, Belisario) that made it out of spring.
I would argue the Dodgers have 5-6 guys at least in the system who could perform at a level similar to Guerrier. They might not even be as good, but the difference wouldn’t be large enough to justify giving Guerrier $4 million per year.

His tweet teases about Guerrier and Martin
Did he say anything interesting about our erstwhile catcher?
@davidyoungtbla - The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.
Yes
He said he thought Martin given his decline, workload, and body type, is too big a risk and was more of a minor-league deal, NRI guy than a $4m guarantee guy.
