What's the best gift you ever received?
Mine would be in 1999, when I got my first skateboard.
But 1997 had to be up there too, when I got a Nintendo 64 with Super Mario 64.
the best gift I got from my parents
was, in retrospect, a trumpet. I wasn’t pleased at the time because it was an intermediate, not professional, horn…but they supported me. And it was a nice looking horn, too.
Actually, the best present I ever received for Christmas was a DVD set of the three OG Star Wars movies…with the original cinematic version on them. So I could watch the Super Extra Special Edition or the films as they were when they were originally released. That was from my little brother, and it was awesome except I cannot for the life of me find where they went. I think something went wrong when I moved to Nashville.
HIGHFIVE!
and
the best gift I ever gave — and this made me really pleased with myself — was the Sandy Koufax ball I gave Billz Hatin’ Ex last Christmas. I spoil my significant others.
HIGHFIVE!
I don’t think I could give up a Sandy Koufax signed ball to anyone. He, along with Maury Wills, was my favorite LA Dodger.
I'm sayin' "What's in it for me?"
Never felt those kind of emotions again until the day we signed Rod Barajas.

My favorite one was...
Rafael Furcal T-Shirt and a Dodger baseball with Dodger Stadium…
Also the most important thing: my mother call me every Christmas from Las Vegas to say “Merry Christmas my son…”
"Oh ville lumière, sens la chaleur de notre coeur, vois-tu notre ferveur quand nous marchons près de toi. Dans cette conquête, chasser l'ennemi, enfin pour que nos couleurs brillent encore..."
"Nous sommes les parisiens (clap clap clap clap) et nous chantons en choeur (clap clap clap clap). Nous sommes les parisiens (clap clap clap clap), fidèles à nos couleurs (clap clap clap clap). Lololo lololo, lololo lololo"
Kiss my Aul[ass], hahaha
Very sweet gift...
My mom is the best… She knew that I was a Dodger fan for a long time because she saw me everyday in front of the TV screen to watch Dodger baseball when I came overthere (between 45 and 60 Dodger games every year in the summer), she was very shocked :O…
I didn’t need to request her a Dodger gift for Christmas…
BTW, I called her tonight to wish a great XMas…

Great Choices
Those were my favorite Dodgers as well
I gave my daughter a bright pink Barbie Corvette riding car when she was 4 years old. She got in, drove it into the wall in the backyard, and never got in it again.

Best Gift
In 1982 my Dad emptied my Kevin Keegen Patrick Soccer shoes box (to trick me) and loaded it up with:
Van Halen
Van Halen ll
Van Halen Woman and Children First
Van Halen Fair Warning
Van Halen Diver Down
Cassette tapes: that was the best!
we need to hang out! I’ll never forget the feeling a few years later sitting in my garage with my two best friends (also VH nuts) and we were like what do u mean? They can’t break up…..VH 1984 at the Forum was my first concert ever.

He built me a Dodger Blue with Logos ping pong/beer pong table.
Also, my dad is fucking awesome.

Probably when I got an Atari 2600 and then later a 5200
was happiest gift moment when I was a kid. Was also excited when I got an electric car race track that I’d always wanted. Only to have the POS break the same day. Hearbreak city!
But my video game systems, when I was real little, that was like right out of the scene in Freaks and Geeks (except I was younger than Sam Weir).

When I was 9 we were in Germany and we always got our Xmas presents via Sears mail order. That particular Christmas my parents found out the order was going to be late so that the last minute they broke the mold and got us all presents made in Germany. I got this great castle with knights, catapults and what not. It is one of the few Christmas presents I remember, I played with that for hours. My friends all thought it was the coolest thing ever.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
Too many to remember...
Off the top of my head… any new baseball glove, bat or basketball that I got. Or in the 1970s when I got the electronic vibration football game with the metal bars that had magnets that could move the players up and down the field. Good luck trying to do any kind of passing or kicking though.
Ho-Ho-Ho Merry Xeimas

Happy Holidays everyone
Best present I got from my parents, I guess would be the 3-speed bike that I immediately rode into a parked car because I wasn’t used to using hand-brakes.
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man
Best bike accident I got into tho
was when I was riding my stingray to little league practice. I was doing wheelies and the front tire came off. Next thing I know I was on my back on the street looking dazed.
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man
I did the infamous
header in to a parked car.
For all the accidents me and my friends had on our bikes, we never got hurt. The first time I ever heard of anyone being severely hurt was when the coach of the Lakers took a spill and Pat Riley ended up coaching the team. At the time Riley was only the color announcer working with Chick.
Next thing I know everyone has to wear a helmet.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
Funny, buy I have never worn a helmet
even on a motorcycle. When I had one, it wasn’t mandatory, so I didn’t
I'm sayin' "What's in it for me?"

from McKinney, who fell off his bike somewhere in the South Bay. That was Magic’s rookie season. Riley took over for Westhead in Magic’s third season.

Merry Christmas to all of my friends at TBLA
Best Present at the age of ten, a Schwinn Continental.
Took that baby out at 6:00 AM and rode it for a mile down Beach Bl. in La Habra, only saw four cars.
What a blast.
Later there was the Mickey Mantle Heart of the Hide Rawlings baseball glove.
Still have them both and use them too.
Then there’s the ball signed by Frank Howard and Sandy Koufax.
And the 8×10 glossy from the Big D, signed in the parking lot of the Shopping Bag Super Market .
heh, back in the day.
Then there was the time I realized how much others have loved me
And how important it is to give back.
Second or third grade...got a Stingray bicycle
I rode around our little cul-de-sac with my dad holding the seat, and after a few minutes I looked back and yelled at him “Why did you let go?” and he said, “You’re riding.” Looked in front of me and thought, “Oh yeah, this is pretty cool.”

My first bike
I hopped on the thing, got the hang of riding… but not so much turning or stopping. I ran over an old man who lived down the street… didn’t touch the thing again for like four months.
Old man was okay, so fortunately its just a funny ass story instead of a blight on my childhood.

If I had to pick my favorite Christmas gift ever, I’d say it was this blue bike I got, some time around when I was about 9 or 10. I got a Dodgers 2011 Calendar (with Martin, Manny, and Torre in it) and a Dodgers beanie from my brother, an IOU for something “RAD-SAUCE” from my sister (we had a gentleman’s agreement), and possibly the funniest assortment of clothing ever from my mother. Highlights include a lime green flannel pajama set complete with a white penguin pattern, an entirely white set of winter accessories, and these ear muffs with faux fur on them. When I wear them I look like Princess Leia on Hoth. When I unwrapped them my brother just about died laughing, it was great.

Now “swesoke” is a new twist. A good one. I like the alliteration. How many letter substitutions can we have and still have the meaning clear (be identifiable as derived from “awesome”)? Eventually it could be “radishy”, for example, and get lost. I think as long as it ends with “soke”, it will work. How about “seasmoke”? Too plain. “ashoke”? I like that one. “asssoak”?

OK, settling in for a full day’s cricket now. It’s the Fourth Test (of the 5-match series called The Ashes, that takes places every two years or so) between Australia and England in Melbourne, and I’ve found a live video feed that has no glitches. http://p2p-stream2.blogspot.com/2010/12/flash-1.html
It’s 11:30 AM tomorrow (Monday) in Melbourne, which means it will continue until about 11 PM PST – great timing. (When they play in England. most of it is in the middle of the night our time.) And yesterday was the most amazing first day of an Ashes match ever for England, where they comprehensively walloped Australia. (England got Australia all out for 98, where a score of less than about 350 is considered poor, and then got 157 runs themselves for loss of no wicket at all, with 10 in reserve.). In cricket, anything can happen: should Australia turn things around, they’d have time to put themselves in good position. (In Test cricket, each team has to get the other team out – 10 wickets down – twice, in two innings, to win. Many times no team wins, resulting in a draw.) But that’s so unlikely to happen – England have put themselves in position to win comprehensively, probably in less than 4 days. but anything can happen. Here goes…
It’s great to have a game to follow, with 4 months still to go until the baseball season.
Cricket is a blast to play, but it’s gonna take some smaller matches for me before I can watch a five day long one.

A couple of years ago, I think. Apparently there’s more than one system used in different countries. The one they’re using in Australia is supposedly more conservative somehow. The commentators are saying it’s not worth appealing lbw decisions, they’re always upheld (not out).

Bah
Bell should be batting fourth, not Collingswood. I don’t know why they didn’t advance him this Test. Anyway, I guess it doesn’t matter too much, since those batting higher have done pretty well. Bell and Trott could be in for a while (hopefully). Trott plays like an opener – very careful until he’s well played in.
Now Bell is gone for 1.
This Siddle is really good – he’s getting all the wickets.

True Grit – fun movie, good western, nothing special, solid acting by the 14 year old, after watching however I saw no reason why they felt the need to remake it. If the Coen brothers wanted to do a Western something original would have been cool. Cowboys Versus Aliens looks more fun.
Tron Legacy – kind of disappointed, special effects were great, story was okay, not wowed liked I expected to be. Jeff Bridges ate up the screen in True Grit but seems to be sleep walking through this one.
