McCourt Divorce Ruling Expected Tuesday
The most talked about signed agreement involving the Dodgers this side of the Juan Uribe deal could be the talk of the day tomorrow. A ruling on the martial property agreement is expected Tuesday in the McCourt divorce trial, writes Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times:
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Scott Gordon is expected to rule Tuesday on the validity of a marital agreement that would provide Frank McCourt with sole ownership of the Dodgers, according to multiple sources familiar with the case.
Keep in mind that, no matter the ruling tomorrow, the Dodger ownership situation will not be decided overnight. Whether Frank or Jamie wins, the other side is likely to appeal, which will drag the process on for at least several months. However, tomorrow's ruling is an important step in the future of McCourt ownership of the Dodgers.
If you ask me, tomorrow is the perfect time to pull off the old distraction transaction, like say, trading for a good Fielder.

to McCourt divorce reality
This sucks…..with a straw
"Heroes get remembered, but Legends never die."
According to Sources
You can see a glimpse of the ‘silent partner’ – the man with the money – just to McCourt’s left in the photo below the headline.
Believed to be one of McCourt’s high powered ultra expensive lawyers, the money man is simply redirecting funds to the team for payroll that McCourt has paid for services rendered by the attorney.
The ‘silent partner’ in turn gets a minority stake in the team … and will net a hefty payday … when the new broadcast rights are renegotiated in 2013.

Why won’t we trade for Fielder? On dodgers.com Colletti says that he doesn’t want t trade the core for Fielder. He sounded like Broxton would be our closer but nothing about Loney. Maybe trade Loney,Sands,Ely,and Martin/Withrow for Fielder?Maybe its just a wild rumor but I hope it is true and we land Fielder. We need a power hitter if we want to win the World Series.
Mostly because Milwaukee wouldn’t do Loney and Broxton for Fielder. They would want a starter in return, for one thing.
I wouldn’t trade them a starter for Fielder. The only starter we could trade is Billingsley because we aren’t trading Kershaw and they wouldn’t want the other three guys.I’d trade Billingsley,Robinson and another prospect for Braun though.
we couldn't trade the three other guys if we wanted to

Pujols and the Cards are supposed to be discussing an extension soon. Chances they don’t come to an agreement?
"Heroes get remembered, but Legends never die."
Without going into all of the Pujols is the greatest talk, they have a few decisions along with Pujols to make.
Carpenter and Wainwright need to be signed as well.
But can they let him walk? What if they are 11 out at the AS break this year?
I guess that depends
on how much effect you think each player has. If you’d rather keep Pujols forever, then you need to find new pitching (and I would love to pick up either of those guys). I bet PR will play heavily into it, as well.

But I find it hard to believe that Vicente Padilla re-signs with LA for a swingman job. As much as teams always need starting pitching, I gotta imagine that someone out there is willing to plunk down a few million plus incentives to put him into their rotation. And use for his intro music Elvis Costello’s “Shot With His Own Gun”, of course.
@davidyoungtbla - The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.
Only thing I can think
There are concerns about Padilla’s recent injury history, and this role might be best for him. Also, he could have a good relationship with Honeycutt, Conte, and the gang. Also, if they pay him at least $3 million or so, that’s not too far off what he could fetch as a starter.
plus LA is a nice place to stalk the weak and vulnerable
Overqualified in an underqualified world since 2008.
This will be his age-33 season
and he’s likely getting only a one year deal after pitching only a half season in 2010. I’d think he and his agent would like to get him into a situation where he can re-establish himself as a starter and set himself up for next year’s free agent bidding.
@davidyoungtbla - The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.
True
But maybe they know of an existing arm condition that would prevent him from starting a ton. Maybe there have been assurances by the Dodgers that at the very lease Padilla would be a late-inning guy, and maybe he thinks going forward he can be dominant in that role, and parlay it into a Benoit-Lyon-Linebrinkian, et al -type contract.

Guess what I'm sayin
is that if forced to choose between the two, then Johnson over Kearns. There’s not much there among free agent corner RH OFs to platoon with Gibbons if that’s the plan (not counting Maggs, too pricey). After Diaz, Johnson, or kearns, you get names like Baldelli and Bill Hall.
In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened
Whats with the Padilla being a closer talk.
They cant be serious can they? I think he has the stuff, but with his injury history, and the fact that he hasnt pitched from the pen since 2001…. it just dosent seem smart to me. It would be awesome though, if he is simply just taking Jeff Weavers spot.

But if Broxton gets traded..?
I guess it depends on what they want to do with Kuo. It would be Neds luck to trade Broxton, and have Kuos elbow explode. I think rushing Jansen into the role is a bad idea too. Weve seen too many young guys come into the pen, and get used up, lately. Theres just sooo much uncertainty with everyone involved. Not a good thing, especially with a rookie manager, and with so many teams in our division, having the good bullpens that they do. Sounds like a repeat of last 2010.

Pence is still under team control so he would be traded for a lot. I would trade Robinson because he wouldn’t be able to start and Houston would want one of our better prospects. Then trade DeJesus or a pitcher. I would love to have Pence in RF and move Ethier to LF

Speaking of Identity
wasn’t that the name of the movie about the dude with all those split personalities, with John Cusack, Amanda Peet, et al? I remember that because of the line, “Whores don’t get a second chance.”
Which, by the way, would make a great t-shirt slogan, but I don’t want to make more work for Maddz.

I was actually thinking about that movie
I really like that one.

I like Bourn too
but assumed he’d cost even more than Pence figured the latter might be more realistic? But with pence under team control would be more costly than maybe they’d like. Anyway, I’d take either one, basically.
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
Did you hear the rumor that we wanted Desmond and Zimmermann for Loney. I’d trade Loney and prospects for Desmond. Then sign LaRoche,Pena, or Lee to play 1B.
my guess is
Ned said that to effectively say, “We’re not trading Loney.”

Speaking of platoons
The latest Dodger platoon I can find was 2002 in CF:
LHB Dave Roberts started 111 of 123 games against RHP (and one against LHP)
RHB Marquis Grissom started 37 of 39 games against LHP (and 11 against RHP)
how'd they do?

In case anyone was wondering
The other two starts in CF went to Hiram Bocachica and Wilkin Ruan (Ruan’s start was on the final day of the season).

wasn't that
the day after the Steve Finley walk off grand slam?
:)
Disregard females, acquire currency.
What about Milledge for a LF platoon
he hit Lefties well right?

That's not a fair comparison
You don’t even have to ask and Nyjer Morgan will take a swing at anything.

Listening to the latest Jonah Keri podcast, with an interview with A’s GM David Forst, and Forst said (among other things) that Oakland offered more money and more years last winter to Jamey Carroll than did the Dodgers.
Said he also offered more money to Colby Lewis, and offered more money and more years to Adrian Beltre and Marco Scutaro last year as well.
yep
2001-02…cool guy, I just reconnected with him on FB after I saw him on an MLBN show. Apparently he lives in New Hampshire now.
Overqualified in an underqualified world since 2008.
No one wants to play in Oakland
I can see why, their unis and stadium suck, I wouldn’t even be them on The Show, lol.
"If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate"
I like their unis
stadium is shit though
LAST SEASON, I led this team in ninth-inning doubles in the month of August!
they're one of the greatest franchises
in the history of MLB. They need a baseball stadium, or to move…

OK no Jim Tracy jokes for at least a few hours
Rox manager Jim Tracy just collapsed near the elevators at the lobby of the Dolphin hotel. He is being taken to a local hospital.

This is the kind of thing that makes me think Kershaw is a real team player and wouldn’t bend us over when it comes to a contract extension. He seems to really love it here. He may want to play on one of the Texas teams, but I think he really loves the Dodgers.
No matter what Lincecum has done to this point, I’ll take Kershaw 1,000 times out of 1,000 in that draft.

LAME!
I was watching Pearl Harbor the other night, and recorded the last 2 hours of it on TNT. Little did I know Saving Private Ryan was right after that, but I didn’t record that, and now I’m really in the mood for SPR. Figures, lol.

In the latest Baseball America minor league transactions report, the only move for the Dodgers was to sign RHP Alexis Pacheco, a 23-year old RHP from Venezuela.
At Dodger Stadium I'd guess he'd hit between
27-32 homeruns.
I’d take it, but not for a deal he’s likely looking for.

There is a growing speculation among rival agents and executives that the Washington Nationals are going to throw a HUGE number at Cliff Lee
ROFL.
I guess
He misses those years of irrelevance in Cleveland (aside from 2007, when he was left off the playoff roster.)

It is almost like an ebay bid screwing with the big guns. You know the Yankees and Rangers are going to pay, so make a big offer, expecting them to cover it and more, driving up the price and reducing their payroll (at least the Rangers) :)
