The Dodgers have reached an agreement with Eric Gagne on a minor-league deal.
Tweeted by Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times. Similar tweet from Ken Gurnick of mlb.com. Hernandez also reports via twitter that Gagne's major-league salary would be $500,000, if he makes it on to the major-league roster, with an additional $500,000 in incentives possible. According to Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports, those incentives are based on games appeared in and games finished.
Welcome to the NRI Jungle Eric.

If Gagne returns to big leagues with Dodgers, it will be for $500,000 with a chance to make another $500,000 for games and games finished.
“We could see ‘game over’ in the 7th inning. Just like the typical Dodger fan.”
Jokes like that are potentially the worst part of the signing. If Martin stops sucking, I’m waiting for the Plaschke puff piece where he writes sentence fragment paragraphs in french

From Gurnick’s article the other day:
Last year [Gagne] played for the Quebec Capitales of the independent Can-Am League as a starting pitcher/coach. In 17 starts (102 2/3 inning) he went 6-6 with a 4.65 ERA and 64 strikeouts. That’s 5.6 K/9 in an independent league. Hard to believe he actually has anything left.

Per the comments discussion this morning, so were Sutton and Hershiser; their returns didn’t go too well.

I’m willing to be talked into it, but I’m not holding out any hope. Also, screw the Dodgers for having this news come out while I wasn’t near a computer :)

I don't know if I
can get on board with this. I guess it is okay to give the dude a shot, but he has been awful for years now. (With the exception of apparently 1 start in the Independent Can-Am League) Man this is weird.
It's a non issue signing
< 1% chance he makes the major league roster out of spring training. We need the extra bodies for split squad games and filling in for the players going to R.O.C.
vr, Xei
The reason
I think it is weird is bc of the PED issue. I would think that the Dodgers would like to get themselves as far away from him just on that alone. Even though he had an unreal run for us. I’ve only been to Dodger Staduim 1 time. It was amazing. Clemens v Wilson Alvarez. Alvarez pitched 6; Mota pitched the 7th and Game Over pitched the 8th and 9th. Lo Duca hit a 3 run HR off Clemens in the 7th. Awesome. I loved Gange. But you are correct that he has really no shot to make the team. You guys see more of the reasoning than I do. That’s why I enjoy reading here so much. Thanks Xei!
Eh
I don’t really care if he’s good or not, I’d just like to see him retire as a Dodger. Maybe come in for an inning or two in a lopsided game and then call it career.
Gagne's streak turned me from an average fan to life long one
Him, Lo Duca, Green, Beltre… an amazing team. All in their primes and playing amazing.
It hurt when he was named to use roids, but most knew that he was on steroids.
With his spot on the team, he wont make the team. He needs to make an impact in AAA to get any time with the team. He signed a MiLB deal so that they could send him to the minors. When we have some injuries in the pen(it is well known it’s gonna happen) he will get into a couple games, if he is doing OK in AAA. I think this was more a PR signing than a baseball signing. And if he does great, you bring back the Game Over storyline and you make millions… I cant wait to see him in Dodger Blue again… even with the roids, he will get a standing ovation

Sounds like Ned is throwing him a final bone for what he did for the Dodgers. If they can give E. Desens (sp) a shot (puke) then Gagne can get a shot. Gameover was fun while it lasted.

I am so against this move for all the reasons discussed this morning. And I was the biggest gagne honk around back then. My only hope is that he can give it his all for one inning at a time and that the change is still sick.

I figured he would be back..
I saw him at Spring Training at Camelback Ranch last year, and I saw him in at the stadium during the playoffs. Jim Tracy wanted him back, he was a good teammate, and hopefully he can show Broxton that change up. Im not expecting him to do much, if anything his 2nd time around, but Im sure glad he isnt a Rockie. Good Luck Eric!
The Elephant in the Room?
Gagne is the biggest embarrassment the Dodgers have ever had. He set this big record, everyone got excited and guess what? He was a roid head and now he sucks.. go figure.
We dont need another juicer.
Especially when he is damaged goods.
