Weaver returns with something to prove | dodgers.com: News
The Dodgers re-signed Jeff Weaver earlier this month, but only to another Minor League contract. He still needs to make the ballclub with nothing guaranteed, the same situation he faced a year ago.

Eric Stephen will be at the Nokia Center for the Sandy Koufax/Joe Torre conversation. Check in tomorrow morning for his update on this special evening.

Weaver.

We will see Jeff Weaver up in the Dodgers within 2 months after the season starts. Injuries and poor performances will have him and Gagne both in the Majors.

If haven’t checked Dear Tommy John letters recently, two great posts he made over the past two weeks made me root even harder for him to make the Dodgers one day.

What day is opening day at Dodgers Stadium this year?

Tuesday, April 13.

could have done without TJ at this event. Tommy Lasorda or Vin couldn’t host the thing?

by EdfromAZ on Feb 27, 2010 8:18 PM PST via mobile reply actions

He's irritating

but he is the reason the show was even made. He’s the executive producer and the man behind raising the money for the charities.

Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen

Who's tj?

I love spring training! I wish I could go the the ranch. DreamWeaver will make the team. Go Dodgers!

TJ Simers

LA Times sports writer. He’s definitely polarizing; some love him, some hate him. He was also responsible for last years evening with Wooden and Scully.

TJ Simers

LA Times writer. No one really likes him. Especially Andruw Jones…

Anyways, I was at the event and just got home and it was amazing. Even though Im young, listening to Sandy Koufax talk about baseball was simply… amazing.

I will say that Koufax is pretty funny. He made some really good jokes at TJ’s expense…

weaver-gagne and blake all should make the tteam—menkawitz also—-we still need a big #1 starter—just trade for him-get the zack guy from KC-even if we give up 5 guys for him-we have the rookies that KC needs-its a better gamble than paying millions for the likes of Schmidt and Andrew Jones

Stultz-Belesario-Elbert-Dejesus-Repko all for Zack Granick at KC-this would be very good for Kc also—all 5 could start for them now or very very soon

by spc7@verizon.net on Feb 28, 2010 6:55 AM PST reply actions

KC laughs in your face at that offer. If you want Greinke, it would probably be something like Billingsley, Withrow, Gordon, Elbert, Lindblom.

C'mon man

If you are going to make idiotic and foolish trade requests among one of a billion comments in a short flourish, at least spell people’s names correctly.

Next addition would be to get Garrett Anderson-Something could happen to Manny-he is getting older and Garret is also a great teamate

by spc7@verizon.net on Feb 28, 2010 7:03 AM PST reply actions

Garret Anderson is getting older too. He is exactly 30 days younger than Manny.

25 man team—would be———Zack-Kershaw-Karuda-Billingsly-Padilla—starters
Broxton-Sherrill-Kuo-Gagne-Transoco-Mcdonald——relief—Ca-Martin-Ausmus—
1b Loney-Doug-2b Dewitt-Belliard—SS-Furcal-Hu-3b-Blake-Carroll—-
OF Manny-Kemp-Eithier-Garrett
that would leave—Weaver-Johnson-Heager-Wade and others for call-ups
and also the Dodgers would go to the World Sieries
if we dont do this we have no #1 starter and Manny could get hurt and we may not even make the play-offs!!!!!!

Weaver already said he would refuse an assignment to the minor, and Reed Johnson would refuse one also.

Also, you need a backup OF that is a good fielder, to come in for Manny in late innings. GA is not that guy.

someone has been playing the big show a little too much. If that’s the case, then beef up the difficutly level and see that it will never play out your way.

by Skunkburner on Feb 28, 2010 9:27 AM PST reply actions

Kiko Calero only commanding a minor league deal?

We gotta get this man in camp if that’s the case

by SeanMillerSavior on Feb 28, 2010 9:39 AM PST via mobile reply actions

Too bad the Dodgers aren’t streaming games this spring training.

by Tripon on Feb 28, 2010 9:40 AM PST reply actions

The home team is usually responsible for the broadcast, and all but two games at Camelback will be on TV

by Eric Stephen on Feb 28, 2010 9:53 AM PST via mobile up reply actions

But I want to see some Taiwanese games! :)

If this was the Red Sox, ESPN would send a full crew and breathlessly cover if Manny found his toothpaste yet.

On that note, did Manny go on the Japanese trip a few years back when the season opened up with the Red Sox-A’s series?

by Tripon on Feb 28, 2010 9:56 AM PST up reply actions

Yes. They were regular season games.

Sickels has a Kershaw Community Projections post up

I didn’t post, but saw mathewmafa and ivdown already get into it with a Redsox fan haha

by BFDC on Feb 28, 2010 3:07 PM PST reply actions

You know if he was a Red Sock we’d be seeing projections for 250 strikeouts and a cy young season ;)

by Ivdown on Feb 28, 2010 3:46 PM PST up reply actions

Yup

I was laughing as I scrolled through the comments. Most people weren’t even THAT optimistic and that guy still had to call attention himself.

by BFDC on Feb 28, 2010 4:10 PM PST up reply actions

I saw one guy who was more optimistic than he should have been (2 now), and he decides that people should think Kershaw is Jonathan Sanchez, lol.

by Ivdown on Feb 28, 2010 4:32 PM PST up reply actions

haha- funny thread there

that’s good stuff. Even worse, I saw either an ESPN or MLB.com guy the other day compare Kershaw to Johnathan Sanchez! Red Sox fans will be Red Sox fans, but…well, it’s all been said before. Mr. K will just have to keep doing what he does, and hopefully, actually get a little RUN support this year so the experts that all go to bed around 10 PM EST start to appreciate it.

As for that thread, my favorite part was where that fan declared himself to be as “unbiased a fan as there is”. I’m not entirely sure how ANYONE can interpret their own objectivity, let alone someone whose screen name is of the team they root for. I mean from where I’m sitting, the sun keeps streaking across the sky, yet they keep telling me that it’s actually the EARTH that’s moving! If I adopted that fan’s philosophy, I can insist that they are all wrong, since I continue to see the sun moving- and I’ve been seeing this happen for over 30 years now! LOL

I'm okay with Kershaw not getting national exposure

It’ll be a bigger surprise for everyone when he wins his first Cy Young that way.

by prosellis on Feb 28, 2010 7:33 PM PST up reply actions

Kershaw’s been getting massive amount of publicity over the past month.

by Tripon on Feb 28, 2010 7:39 PM PST up reply actions

Eh, not really

At least it hasnt all been good and national. It started because he was used as an example in an ESPN article. Then the blogs started writing stories defending him(mainly Dodger blogs, who already know how special this kid is). Then the LA Times has written a couple stories, but, once again, it goes to Dodger fans. Baseball fans outside of CA really dont know about Kershaw…

There is a thread on MLBTR regarding Jake Peavy talking to the White Sox about getting Agon. So, all fans were talking about who would be interested. There was one guy who felt Clayton Kershaw, James Loney and Dee Gordon would be a good starting point. Needless to say, he got ripped a new one by about 7 people…(If you want to see it, there are in the first 50 comments of the thread)

Sometimes I wonder

how Red Sox fans and Yankees fans can’t get along when they have so much in common.

by prosellis on Feb 28, 2010 7:44 PM PST up reply actions

I didn't mean you!

You are easily one of the best I’ve interacted with. Its the casual guys you meet on the street or at a bar.

110 hits allowed for Kershaw, Tripon? Lol, come on maaaaan.

by Ivdown on Feb 28, 2010 5:31 PM PST reply actions

Yeah, that was craaaaazy. You’re talking about a 4.90 H/9, which would be the best ever by a mile.

by silverwidow on Feb 28, 2010 8:28 PM PST up reply actions

I do think Kershaw has a chance to make it close to the numbers I posted though.

With the caveat that hits allowed would more be around 150.
