How about this amazing stat
He needs to work on pitching out of a stretch. Eovaldi was nearly untouchable with no runners on base, giving up a single run over 47.1 innings for an 0.16 ERA. He was 6.24 with runners on and 9.20 with runners in scoring position.
That's the wrong way to look at that
ERA is practically useless for this comparison. Of course a pitcher will have a lower ERA with no runners on base. Worst case scenario with runners on base is 1 run surrenders, and that requires a homerun. Eovaldi could have given up 50 triples with the bases empty, and amazingly he still has a 0.00 ERA!
Of course, with runners on, it becomes much easier to give up runs (and your ERA goes up) and it becomes much easier with runners in scoring position. It’s not a huge leap of faith to suggest that every pitcher at every level experiences the same type of split for ERA with no runners on, runners on, and runners in scoring position.
Pitching out of the stretch is not the issue (it may be but you can’t tell from the info given.)

Maybe I'm just slow today
but what exactly does it mean that he only gave up one run in 47 innings with no runners on base? Wouldn’t that be a solo home run. So isn’t what he’s really saying is that he only gave up one solo home run all season? What am I missing? This does not seem to be an inherited runners issue. He always started an inning and never relieved during the middle of an inning.
yup
eovaldi didnt give up too many homers… so all runs scored on him have to be scored with people on base… so the stat is pretty useless.
This is also not behind the paywall
at least for now.

Ethan Martin at number 3
Stephens County handed American Heritage their second, and final, loss of the season thanks to Martin’s dazzling performance. He pitched the complete game, striking out 11 batters, and on his 130th pitch he still hit 93 on the gun. Martin’s future had just changed.
130th pitch
gould threw 120 pitches in his last start ..
man i hate these HS coaches who ride their young guns… they dont give an F about their future..
no way
there is no way i am believing that
I put a link to my interview
on the front page in case anyone missed it.

I sent them a different picture, but they used that anyway :)
Martin & Eovaldi
Both must be a little lanky at 6’3 195lbs. With their “fluid mechanics” is it possible they add another mph or two in velocity as they get older and a little bit stronger, or are they considered done with growing and filling out their frame?
