Dodgers in Taiwan, Take Two

Dodgers at Chinese Professional Baseball League All-Stars

10:07pm, Tien Mou Stadium, Taipei, Taiwan

Who's up for some late night baseball?  Game two of the Taiwan Series starts at 10:07pm Pacific time (2:07 local time in Taipei).  Josh Towers starts for the Dodgers, and Chien-Fu Yang starts for the CPBL All-Stars.

The start of the game might be a bit delayed, as rain has delayed the start of warmups, per Ramona Shelburne of ESPN L.A.

Joe Torre held a managerial forum in Taipei earlier today.  Ken Gurnick of MLB.com has the details:

He opened his presentation with what he called simple, basic principles of managing people.

"I try to deal with players the way I wanted to be managed as a player," he said. "There's no magic formula. Manage with common sense. Don't ever forget what it was like as a player. They are all different people with one goal. You can treat them differently, but fairly."

Here is the Dodgers' lineup, including the $170,000 man(ny):

Dodgers

SS Carroll
DH Manny
1B Loney
3B Belliard
CF Paul

Belisario says he hasn't missed any appointments

Ignacio Serrano, reporter for the El Nacional in Venezuela, reports on Belisario:

Ronald Belisario said he haven’t miss any appointment in Caracas American Embassy. The problem is the DUI thing he has in 2009
Ronald Belisario said he’ll have the final answer with this visa, hopefully, next monday

In lieu of the situation, an ironically named site if there ever was one.

Rain

I figured rain would be an issue with these games. They get a ton of rain over there. It is worse in the summer/monsoon months though. I would imagine certain times of the day are better than others.

Oddly enough

I don’t have any stats on those guys to run through my simulator.

My cheap simulator

says that two Lin usually equals a Win.

I liked Jon Weisman's tweet

in reply to my posting the lineup:

Kao in the sixth spot? Are you kidding me?

Hilarious

Actually it's Gao :)

but I won’t go there too much.

From Ramona Shelburne:

We are officially in a rain delay out in Taiwan. They really want to get this game in so I’m guessing we’ll be here a long time…

So much for the game thread

assuming I have the city right

I am not liking this forecast:
http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/businesstraveler/hourbyhour/graph/TWXX0021?#

Shoot- I browsed a Taiwanese at work for nothing. IT/security’s gonna love that! :/

I keep getting a message on the link to watch that says (thanks Google!) “Limited to the Taiwan area to watch this channel”

by Eric Stephen on Mar 12, 2010 10:13 PM PST reply actions

Ya, I was wondering why it wasn’t working. On mine you can’t hit play….

II can't even copy that Chinese error msg

to try to translate it, but since it includes my IP address, I assume it is saying I cant play the video, oh well glad I dvrd the game earlier, time to watch Clayton throw.

amazing what you can find

when you type in a completely random sequence of letters, without any prior knowledge as to what it actually is.

The replayed broadcast of today’s game on Prime Ticket skipped the 2nd inning. Boooo.

by Eric Stephen on Mar 12, 2010 10:41 PM PST reply actions

That was a sharp ball to try to stretch to home

by robotmadeofnails on Mar 12, 2010 11:03 PM PST up reply actions

Seriously

Bruce wasn’t even at 3B once Repko had the ball! But, what an arm. He had him by a good 20 feet.

by Eric Stephen on Mar 12, 2010 11:04 PM PST up reply actions

Well, Repko did all the work, but thanks- I’ll take it. :)

Rain delay
In a rain delay so Kuo and Hu are meeting with a group of Little Leaguers. A rare chance to meet their baseball heroes

by Eric Stephen on Mar 12, 2010 10:43 PM PST reply actions

The Kershaw curve to strike out Stubbs (looking) in the 3rd was outstanding. Real sharp break to it. Rick Monday called it about as unhittable a pitch you will find.

Baseball, soon

From Ramona Shelburne:

they have taken the tarp off the field here in Taipei, everyone is cautiously optimistic that we’ll get this game in pretty soon

by Eric Stephen on Mar 12, 2010 10:51 PM PST reply actions

I wonder if they are going to use the wet base rule.
vr, Xei

by Xeifrank on Mar 12, 2010 10:56 PM PST up reply actions

D'oh! From Shelburne, and update:
Dang, I jinxed it. Tarp coming back on… Long day ahead

by Eric Stephen on Mar 12, 2010 10:56 PM PST up reply actions

Belliard gave one a ride to CF last night in the 4th, but the CPBL CF tracked down the deep line drive on the warning track.

by Eric Stephen on Mar 12, 2010 10:52 PM PST reply actions

Hyang-Nam Choi has a unique delivery, in that he starts his pitching motion from the stretch with his left foot set well behind his right, one of the more exaggerated styles I’ve seen.

by Eric Stephen on Mar 12, 2010 10:59 PM PST reply actions

It’s more closed with a man on base

by Eric Stephen on Mar 12, 2010 11:00 PM PST up reply actions

Thanks for the link Eric. I watched a lot of games this way last year. I would gladly pay for MLB.TV, but they black me out.

by robotmadeofnails on Mar 12, 2010 11:01 PM PST reply actions

Who is pitching for us now?

by robotmadeofnails on Mar 12, 2010 11:04 PM PST reply actions

It’s a rain delay now, and the link is showing last night’s game. Hyang-Nam Choi was pitching

by Eric Stephen on Mar 12, 2010 11:05 PM PST up reply actions

Ah, I see.

Interesting to see the iPhone ad in English text

by robotmadeofnails on Mar 12, 2010 11:07 PM PST up reply actions

Oh, Brian Barton is on deck. He is on the Dodgers current roster for MLB Show 10

by robotmadeofnails on Mar 12, 2010 11:05 PM PST reply actions

Haven’t seen much of DeJesus play, so my first impression seeing him in the batters box today was that he was tall. He’s listed at 5’11", which is fairly tall for a middle infielder (he’s got 3 inches on Furcal, for instance).

by Eric Stephen on Mar 12, 2010 11:07 PM PST reply actions

Just saw Mientkiewicz’s throw to start a 3-6-3 DP to end the 5th…wow, that was bad…what a looping throw.

I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he was trying to avoid hitting the runner, but I’m not convinced he can throw well enough to play the field.

by Eric Stephen on Mar 12, 2010 11:15 PM PST reply actions

*sigh* this is not looking good

I’m staring at my computer screen, stuck somewhere between naive optimism and denial, like Bart Simpson in the “Kamp Krusty” episode. (“Krusty is coming, Krusty is coming…”)

"Dodger pitching is suspect"

Some doozies from Beto Duran

-’They’re bringing in the scrap heap to get their #5 starter: Ramon Ortiz, Russ Ortiz, etc.’ Somehow they forgot to mention J-Mac, Elbert or Stults.

‘James Loney was locked up’: WRONG (Unless he has inside information about Loney getting arrested in Taiwan)

-“Chad Billingsley is not (inaudible) anymore”: "inaudible was definitely a negative word. (reliable?) (Hiroki Kuroda apparently does not exist, as I don’t believe he was mentioned. Certainly not in any meaningful way)

-GA getting signed to a minor league deal is essentially a sign of desperation and financial despair

direct quotes from Duran:
“Everybody is getting better except for us”- mimicking Dodger fans’ thoughts about the season
“I don’t like their starting pitching”- his own thoughts

Classic. Where’s Jon Weisman when you need him?

what happened to the game?

by delias man on Mar 13, 2010 12:46 AM PST reply actions

looks like a rainout.

by sarcastro9 on Mar 13, 2010 12:47 AM PST up reply actions

i hurried home for nothing

by delias man on Mar 13, 2010 12:50 AM PST up reply actions

yeah, and they JUST called it as soon as you got here. I know it’s a bummer, but imagine how the people GOING to the game felt! I hope there’s a makeup game, though I doubt it. Obviously, I couldn’t understand what the announcer was saying afterwards…

by sarcastro9 on Mar 13, 2010 12:53 AM PST up reply actions

the Taiwanese players waved to the crowd, and went inside

something was flashed about “3/14”, and that was that. The feed is now dead. hmmmmm I’m starting to think this game ain’t gonna happen.

g’night…
