Manny and Loney

doing well this game. Announcers impressed by them both. I think. Maybe. Or they’re talking about omlettes. What do I know?

talked about Loney's new contract

A few things they (and the CPBL team) are impressed from this and last game: Stults’ changeup. Paul’s arm. Carroll’s defense. Everything Manny.

Belliard didn’t get the fat part of the bat on the ball there.

My first live tv broadcast of the year

Well, its better than the Chicago White Sox broadcasters.

by bhsportsguy on Mar 13, 2010 10:46 PM PST reply actions

LOL

Did anyone just catch how they were talking about how Belliard replaced Hudson last year? I THINK that’s what they were saying, anyway.

I believe I heard something about “I thought Torre was supposed to be a great communicator?” :)

by Eric Stephen on Mar 13, 2010 10:48 PM PST up reply actions

Manny was out by a mile there at the plate (RBI single), but the catcher dropped it

by Eric Stephen on Mar 13, 2010 10:49 PM PST reply actions

reminds me of the time last year against the Braves

when he tried to score on a sacrifice fly that, I believe, was caught by the third baseman!

by sarcastro9 on Mar 13, 2010 10:50 PM PST up reply actions

Whew

Manny being in a close play at the plate was not what I need,

by bhsportsguy on Mar 13, 2010 10:49 PM PST reply actions

If it’s any consolation, the play wasn’t close :)

by Eric Stephen on Mar 13, 2010 10:52 PM PST up reply actions

kinda off topic

but do most people agree that this is Loney’s make or break year? show some power or we start looking?

by npurcell on Mar 13, 2010 10:51 PM PST reply actions

He's probably ok

for one more year then. But he isn’t much of a bargain next year if he doesn’t hit a little better. Might be nice to have an Olmedo cheapy type who can be atleast average with the glove to play against lefties.
vr, Xei

by Xeifrank on Mar 13, 2010 11:01 PM PST up reply actions

Sort of

:-)

Depends on how much power are we talking about. But yeah I’d say if he can hit 15-20 this year while still doing the other things at the plate that’ll be enough to keep him safe.

There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.

Yes and no

Yes on he needs to show some pop and some hitting at home, but in either case, I don’t see the Dodgers going after anyone else.

by bhsportsguy on Mar 13, 2010 10:54 PM PST up reply actions

eh, I don't know

even if Loney is roughly as good (or bad) as he was last year, the Dodgers are gonna have bigger things to worry about. I think he’d have to regress, or Lambo would have to impress, in order for something to happen in ’11.

From Gurnick:

Barton’s statistical goals can be measured in hundreds, but it’s not about home runs or RBIs.

He was probably experiencing the itch I have now, and was dismayed that he kept getting held back by the catcher, so he decided to do something about it :)

by Eric Stephen on Mar 13, 2010 11:32 PM PST up reply actions

Alcantara had hit a pair of home runs off Red Barons pitcher Pete Zamora in May. Zamora later retaliated by hitting Alcantara with a pitch and was suspended and fined by the league. And the day before Izzy’s kick-and-charge, he again homered off Zamora and, in the pitcher’s view, may have hot-dogged with an arrogant trot around the bases.

by fritts on Mar 13, 2010 11:33 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah, but still. Kick the catcher.

I mean, in 100+ years of baseball who had been bonkers enough to do it. I mean, I’m sure Carl Everett thought about it and Milton Bradley would have toyed with the idea, but to actually do it….. real man of genius.

So, has it been Towers for 3, followed by Lindblom for 3? Or did I miss a pitcher?

In the few ABs I’ve seen, Belliard has put some good swings on the ball at least.

The box score is updated now…it has just been Towers/Lindblom. Lindblom gave up a hit and a walk with 3 Ks in his 3 IP

No more Manny

John Lindsay now batting for him

by bhsportsguy on Mar 14, 2010 12:28 AM PST reply actions

But Loney is still out there

I think Lindsay might go play first from now on.

Those umbrellas would be banned at Dodger Stadium

And that’s probably good since there would be fights if some used them.

by bhsportsguy on Mar 14, 2010 12:40 AM PST reply actions

Plus it would be easy for The Penguin to blend in with the crowd.

by Eric Stephen on Mar 14, 2010 12:42 AM PST up reply actions

but at least Matt Kemp would have something to stand under.

From Jon at DT

James Loney:
“I’m glad I came, I enjoyed it. A lot of guys didn’t want to go after the China trip. I knew Taiwan as a country is a little ahead of China as far as the economy has developed. In China, most people are still trying to become more advanced. Here they have a TGIF and a Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse.”

that 0-2 pitch juuuust missed

and then Link threw one down the middle a few pitches later. Let’s see how he can handle getting out of jams.

by sarcastro9 on Mar 14, 2010 1:08 AM PST up reply actions

Link has a nice slider

by delias man on Mar 14, 2010 1:08 AM PST reply actions

that'll do

Not a bad job at all there by Link. For an 11-1 exhibition game, there was a lot for Dodger fans to be excited about this game.
