Around SBN: Dana White Announces Koscheck vs. Hendricks for UFC on FOX

I'm a Cubs fan. Today was my first visit to Camelback Ranch. There is absolutely no reason it should take ONE HOUR to get out of the parking lot. Would like Dodger fans thoughts on this mess.

The game set an attendance record for Camelback

So you did experience a worst-case scenario. That’s also the Dodger Stadium experience on a 50,000 attendance night.

My advice is that it is ST. Hang around the complex after the game for awhile and let the traffic die down. You’re waiting anyway, why not?

CAVEAT: I haven’t been to Camelback yet.

As I noted in the post...

… about half the crowd had left by the end of the game. There’s really no reason for it to take that long to get about 7,000 people out.

Sorry...

I completely forgot that the title of the post is a link!

I haven’t been to CBR yet either, but you are right. There doesn’t seem to be any good reason why it should take an hour to get out of the parking lot.

Interestingly, last time I went to the Cactus League, probably 8 years ago or so and obviously before the Dodgers were there, I remember taking in a night Cubs game. Really nice facility, but I don’t remember there being any parking at that stadium at all. In fact, I remember paying one of the guys who lived in the neighorhood to let me park in his driveway. I guess that’s sort of like Wrigley…

There is definitely parking at HoHoKam Park, where the Cubs play ST games.

There are lots run by the Cubs on both the north and south sides of the park, and private lots further away. Even though the Cubs consistently draw capacity crowds of near 13,000, it has never taken me more than 5-10 minutes to get out of the lot.

So Al

what would like a Dodger fan to say who has nothing to do whatsoever with how CBR is run. Yes, it sucks. Does that work for you? I found going to Surprise was a nightmare but it never occurred to me to complain to the SB Nation Royal site that their spring training site was a logistical nightmare.

Sorry it took so long to get back here.

I have been to every park in the Cactus League, multiple times, over the last 25 years — probably a total of over 200 spring training games.

Not once have I had any trouble even remotely close to Camelback Ranch’s traffic troubles — at a spring training game or any other sporting event or concert I have ever attended, including two Fiesta Bowls where the attendance was 75,000.

I wasn’t attempting to “complain”, simply asking for Dodger fans’ reaction to this issue.

I guess Dodger

fans are used to waiting an hour to get out of an event. Being from LA I find it hard to believe you have never had such troubles before. I’ve had them at the Rose Bowl, Dodger Stadium, The Greek, The Hollywood Bowl, it is part of the experience here.

I’ve had trouble just getting into Surprise. I’ve yet to visit CBR, but I plan to ride a bike when I do.

Hollywood Bowl

Now that’s a place where I would use public transportation, if only the stupid Red Line had a stop close enough. Hollywood and Highland is just too far for the wife’s knee; uphill and THEN you have to climb into the bowl. The direct bus from Chatsworth wasn’t terrible though.

I found the walk up from Highland okay

Is her knee that bad? That is how we go now, eat at Highland, nice slow walk up the hill, pleasant experience compared to the parking lot.

It has healed, but it can act up from time to time. There are other factors that I won’t go into here, but because you’ve met us both, you should be able to figure it out.

Driving in Chicago is an absolute joke

Maybe cutting down on the level of corruption in the road repair contracts would be a start to dealing with it.

It is really horrible getting out of there

It reminds me of the Rose Bowl in a way, because everyone in the main parking lot all bottlenecks into one exit. There is another parking lot on Camelback Road (near the back of the complex, but more to the front of the main street) that is also pretty bad, although yesterday I was at CBR just to watch the minor league games, and we left about 10 minutes ahead of the bulk of the crowd, as the Cubs-Sox game was ending. We were on the freeway in a reasonable 10-15 minutes.

I generally think getting out of all parking lots is horrible so I try to avoid the practice at all costs. My bad story from yesterday was actually getting into the stadium. BHSportsGuy and I were here at 9am, but all that was going on on the Dodger side was minor leaguers working out. We stayed for a bit, but were both still really tired from the long day before so we went to watch some NCAA tournament games before the 1pm minor league games started. Getting back to the park was what took the longest. The 101 south was stopped, as was Camelback Rd, and it took about 45 minutes to go 2 miles and park

How was it today leaving Surprise

or were all the cars gone by the time you left? Most of the brand new parks have problems since they only have one main feeder road.

Surprise is awful on one road specifically (Bell) but the key is that there are multiple ways to get out, so we were able to get back to CBR without taking either Bell Road or (in this case) the freeway (101).

by Eric Stephen on Mar 21, 2010 12:33 AM PDT up reply actions

Right.

All the parks have more than one way out — except CBR. They’ve simply got to fix that.

Really?

Look, i’ve been going to CBR for two years and bought a place across the street so I’m there all the time. Yes, it is true that there is only one way out of the complex (for now), but there are three directions to go once you get to the signal at Camelback!! Arizona is built like a grid so there are multiple ways to get to where you need to go and the street names don’t change. If you want to turn left on Camelback like 95% of the fans, don’t complain about wait times when the other 5% find an alternate route by turning right or going straight. If you can’t adapt, maybe parking isn’t you’re biggest issue. i’m out of there in about 15 minutes.

As for Hohokam (did I get that right?) if you park on the grass parking lots at the complex, there’s no way you’re out of there in 5-10 minutes.

Geez man

watching all those games how come we don’t hear from you? You could be giving us some great information.

by meercatjohn on Mar 23, 2010 6:09 PM PDT up reply actions

You're probably right....

so how’s this. Yesterday Russ Martin was moving around pretty well for a guy with a bad groin. Under the watchful eye of Travis Barbary, he was working on blocking curves in the dirt for about 10 minutes in the strings area. Granted he didn’t have to move too much, but he popped up pretty well after each block. Don’t know if this counts as “great information”, but it’s something.

I’ll be back again this weekend and should make a couple of trips for extended ST and instructional league. Maybe i can find a tidbit or two.
