In other news, Brad Ausmus is shut down until Wednesday. He has had lower back pain, and received an epidural injection today.
Minor leaguers suiting up for the Dodgers tonight are pitchers Scott Dohmann and Jesus Castillo, infielders John Lindsey, Justin Sellers, Pedro Baez, and Cesar Suarez, and outfielders Brandon Watson, Andrew Lambo, Angelo Songco, and Scott Van Slyke.

So who is the backup catcher
if the old backup catchers back is shot and Martin is not quite ready by opening day?
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
Ha Ha
that would be funny if we go into the season with Ellis and Knoedler as the backstops.

They don’t think the Ausmus injury is serious, and that he will be able to play after Wednesday

Heard from a Venezuelan reporter that Ronald Belisario should have his visa by tomorrow, and would likely be in camp by Monday.
Ran it by an anonymous Dodger source (always wanted to say that!), who said the news was “not credible”
Tony Jackson is reporting that Stults, Repko and Hu are on the trading block:
ESPN Los Angeles (Scroll down to the last item)

Interesting
Repko and Hu, I get. Stults? It’s not like somebody else really seized the #5 starter job.

From Baseball HQ Injury Analyst who I think has his finger on the pulse better then Will Carroll:
The situation regarding Brandon Webb (RHP, ARI) is getting more ominous by the day. A veteran D-backs observer told me Thursday that Webb’s situation has regressed to the point that a second surgery may be necessary at some time in 2010 if his spring struggles persist ..

Furcal saves a run
And saves us from hearing a diatribe from Monday about how that run was “manufactured” by SDP stealing a base
Matter of time
why do you hate manufactured runs. They do happen.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
I don't have strong feelings really
But I can already tell that he was going to go on a long speach about it, since he’s already mentioned it 3 times how San Diego needs to figure out different ways to score runs.

I’m already irritated before he finishes the 2nd syllable. I simply don’t like his voice and inflections.

I remember when
Antonelli was the biggest prospect in the Padre organization. Kind of like LaRoche except Antonelli sucked in the minors while LaRoche waited until the major leagues to suck.

Well, if spring stats are the determinant (which Torre said they weren’t, it lease 100%), the opening day starter battle is now down to Kershaw and Bills. :)
Heh
Except that Torre specifically mentioned “the four” :)

Roads take up space
that could be used for money making operations.

Which is why Toll Roads came into existence.
If you turned one of the entrances into Dodger Stadium as a toll road you could further split the haves with the have nots and give the have’s the ability to snake in and out of game in a way in which they expect to be accomodated with.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
Eric
arrives three hours before the first pitch and leaves two hours after the last pitch so getting in and out of a stadium is not usually something he has to deal with.

However, sitting next to and talking with Jonah Keri was cool as shit.

In 2005, he told me about his encounter he had with Rick Monday where Keri was actually kind of rude to Monday (Keri is a diehard Expos fan and “Blue Monday” in 1981 still haunts him). Keri ran into Monday in the elevator, Monday went to introduce himself, and Keri said something like “I know who you are” rather curtly.
Anyway, this was a fun Twitter exchange we had today:
Me:
Sitting next to the great @jonahkeri, who is so nice I won’t even bring up Rick Monday

I was in the press box at Camelback today before leaving for Surprise at 10:30 or so, and the White Sox beat reporters were all laughing at Ozzie’s pregame today, in which he was all over the place, including I believe bashing his wife for not being able to cook.

perhaps less fun to play for
I saw this clip fairly recently of a game in 2006, interestingly enough, where the Sox were facing Padilla. This poor pitcher came in, apparently with the understanding that he would hit the batter. (No doubt as retaliation for whatever shenanigans Padilla was up to that day.) The pitcher got him out instead (the horrors!), so Ozzie pulled him from the game, and really let him have it in the dugout.
I remember that
To defend Ozzie. He told the player to do something, and he didn’t do it. What is Ozzie supposed to do with him?

Gameday claims Padilla has 33 pitches and only 2 balls...
What’s up with that? I know they have weird tendencies during ST, but since he’s walked nobody I see no reason why they would add balls. Anybody got a more official pitch count?
Joe Torre told the guys
to hold back so they can pound him during the regular season.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
ha
Of course, that wouldn’t explain what happened when they faced this guy last season, but you may be on to something there. It’s probably what the opposing teams’ managers have been telling their players when they face the Ortizes.
Long fouls mean nothing
infield pop flies do.

Sure is going to be interesting to see what San Diego
can do when they trade Adrian this year. They don’t need a 1st baseman with Blanks.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
For a superstar, Adrian sure got traded for junk.
He’s been traded twice.
Once for super murderer Ugeth Urbina, and again for Adam Eaton.
The Padres also got Chris Young in that deal.
Given what has happened to the Twin pitchers I’d rate the Padre/Ranger deal as the best deal of the century.

Wow, count the misspelled names in this yahoo game recap paragraph...
NOTES: Vladimir Guerrero(notes), who made his first appearance in the field Friday for Texas, took the day off. Ether, Blake Dewitt(notes) and James Looney were among the handful of regulars to make the trip for the Dodgers’ split squad. Los Angeles plays host to San Diego in a night game in Glendale. Repack had an eventful afternoon. His fifth-inning home run snapped an 0 for 15 start to the spring, but two innings later he was called out for runner’s interference when Chin-lung Hue’s would-be single to right bounced off his leg between first and second.
Repack could have been DeWitt’s nickname last season.
If Hu’s batted ball hit Repko the baserunner, Hu gets credit for a single anyway.

3 days at Camelback Ranch
3 Cactus League attendance records.
Thu – 13,391 (Dodgers/Cubs)
Fri – 13,413 (Sox/Cubs)
Sat – 13,506 (Dodgers/Padres)
Earlier in today, the D-Backs and Mariners briefly held the record with 13,444 in Peoria. I’m beginning to think something shady is going on in these numbers :)

Or is he? Why waste our time with the riff raff when you have SuperLindblom?

They can’t make up their mind whether he’s a starter or reliever. He’d be great at both, but needs to build up innings if it’s for the rotation.
I still don’t believe Torre and Colletti would allow so many young arms in the rotation. They won’t use Elbert or McDonald who can probably handle it. They’re not going to use Withrow or Lindblom either.
Don’t agree. If Lindblom and Withrow are throwing strikes, they’ll be given an opportunity at some point.

If Lindblom is going to be a starter, he still needs to develop a 3rd pitch. He probably can relieve now
He can definitely relieve now.
But it’s a fair point about developing him further as a starter.

As a reliever. I mean if JMac isn’t, you do need some relievers, no?
Then again, they might announce he is being optioned to minor league camp right after this strong outing (just like they did with Link.)

wow, this is sad
“The fate of McDonald — whose demotion was another blow in a dreadful spring — was sealed when he allowed six runs in 1 1/3 innings on Friday night against the Padres. After the game and long after the clubhouse cleared, McDonald was sitting in front of his locker, still in his uniform, his head in his hands.”
Seems like a lot of the things that many people think is true with Bills actually is true with J-Mac. Hope he can turn it around- he’s way too talented to be one of those “oh-yeah-I-remember-that-guy” types in a few years.
Torre postgame paraphrased
More later:
JMac and I had a fairly long conversation. He’s going to go down there to be a starter. Its going to be a long, slow process. He needs to learn something from every outing-good or bad. He would have gone down withor without last night’s outing. Our mind was made up. There is a lot in that kid…he’s just lost his way a bit.
Lindblom is not on our roster, so the chances are he won’t be on our roster when the season starts, but he punches a clock. Its very easy for him to throw strikes. We want him to start the season as a starter. He hasn’t hurt himself.
by Eric Stephen on Mar 20, 2010 10:15 PM PDT via mobile reply actions
He hasn’t hurt himself.
Torre-speak for “we’ll see him later in the year.” He said the same thing about Link and Monasterios.
I seem to see a lot of Torre quotes where the “praise” is simply a “not negative”. He hasn’t hurt himself, he’s done nothing wrong, etc. I don’t know what to think about that.

Jon Meloan needs Tommy John surgery
We bailed on him at just the right time.
As for the other guy, not so much.
Is Lasik surgery the a PED?
I don’t see how it could be a PED, as it is not a drug. PED = Performace Enhancement Drug. I could see how it could be called a “Performance Enhancer”, but why do some people try to equate LASIK to things like HGH and anabolic steroids etc…? Using that kind of logic, wearing shoes, eating, drinking water and breathing would be performance enhancers.
vr, Xei
Well
if people want to talk about how unnatural testosterone is (rofl, idiots) then how is it natural to cut out your cornea and replace it :o
same with the platelet rich blood cells to me, it’s blood doping under a less offensive name
Blood doping is done for a increase of oxygen that the reinserted blood will provide you. PRP takes the white blood cells to better promote healing.
And the difference is that PRP won’t actually help you ‘produce’ better on the field. Whether you still think that being able to heal faster and get back on the field quicker is a PED is where we might differ.
Also, another difference is that PRP is documented and supervised under doctors while Blood doping is usually done behind closed doors, and unsupervised.
