One Dodger

If you had one Dodger to pick as your first pick for Fantasy who would it be? I’m thinking one of Kemp, Kershaw, Broxton, or Ethier. I think Broxton might be the best bet. Any thoughts?

Also. I have a couple of Giants fans in my league this year. I’m thinking about drafting Lincecum or Sandoval early on and holding them hostage. Hopefully getting a good trade out of them. Does this make me a bad Dodgers fan? Sandoval was huge for me last year, btw.

Kemp would be the first fantasy pick

Because that’s when he’s going in fantasy drafts – first round. Especially in 5×5 roto leagues, where it becomes obvious that many great basestealers are not often otherwise good at baseball (coughJuanPierrecough).

I’m in a funky points league (1pt singles, 3 pt doubles, 5 pt triples, 4 pt homers) where the guy picking first tragically and mistakenly selected Orlando Cabrera with the first overall pick. Kemp was gone before I could pick him. I did get Kershaw and Ethier, though, and Furcal makes shortstop my weakest position (here’s hoping we see even year Furcal).

Orlando Cabrera???

Yeah

He’s hoping to get a T-Shirt that says “Fantasy First Pick Fail.” Or maybe he’ll get an Orlando Cabrera autographed baseball.

That’s horrible for the guy who picked Cabrera. Yahoo has this feature this year where if you’re the commissioner in the league you can call a “timeout” and previous draft picks (up to the last 5) if someone’s computer kicked them off or they make a mistake like picking Orlando Cabrera first overall.

ESPN does not. You have to stand by your Steve Phillips moves.

That’s Orlando Cabrera? Not Miguel Cabrera?
That’s Victor Zambrano? Not Carlos Zambrano?

K-E-M-P

I had the #7 pick in my FB draft and took Kemp over the likes of A-Rod, Teixeira, Fielder, Longoria, and Mauer. I’m a fan-boy. I can’t help it. I also ended up with Kershaw in the 5th round and Billz in the 9th.

Even though I’m expecting a big year out of Kershaw, he’d have to have an amazing year in order to edge past Kemp’s value.

Hey, I have the second overall pick in the draft. I guess I will get a pretty good player there. Unless I slip up and say Orlando Cabrera. Or Zack Granick.

For Greinke to go in the first round

The Royals would need to put together a team OBP over .330, like they did in 2006 when they scored 757 runs.

CBS is pretty good

I like the weekly leagues they do, and with the Commissioner thing, it’s pretty customizable. I’ve done free leagues with them the last few years.

pay league

So what do you get for the $90/$180 fee for CBS? Most of the free sites are pretty customizable these days.

Eric

can you post the link so anyone who wants to follow the league can.

by meercatjohn on Mar 25, 2010 8:44 AM PDT reply actions

Important

If you can’t make the draft time, be sure to fill out your rankings a head of time and let the draft wizard know you are doing the draft unattended so we don’t have to wait 3 minutes for your pick to be made by the program.

Good luck to everyone playing.

First overall pick, Pujols or Hanley?

I’d go with Pujols myself, but People love the 5 tool style of Hanley. I’d personally take the gargantuan numbers Pujols puts up with little to no SB (though 16 last season) instead of the guy who will steal about 30 but have worse stats almost all the way around the board.

by Ivdown on Mar 25, 2010 9:20 AM PDT reply actions

My thing with picking Pujols

he is the best player in baseball. BUT. the first base group is pretty good right now. if you miss pujols you can still grab Texera, Howard, Fielder, Gonzales, Cabrera, Sandoval etc.If you miss Hanley you’ve got Jeter, Reyes if he’s healthy, Rollins, and Tulo.
