Dodgers Ready For Home Opener, on TV

White Sox (0-1-1) at Dodgers (1-0)
12:05pm, Camelback Ranch, Glendale, AZ

On the day that potential backup outfielder Garret Anderson arrived at Camelback Ranch, the Dodgers face a former backup outfielder as they battle the White Sox for the second straight day, this time as the home team.  Juan Pierre will bat leadoff and play left field for the Sox against his former team.  The White Sox are a split squad today, with the other half of the team playing the Cubs in Mesa.

Even though Anderson is a non-roster player, his chances of making the club seem pretty good.  "I told him, right now our roster is pretty full," said manager Joe Torre, "but knowing what he brings to the table...I think he's a plus, its just a matter of figuring it out."

Russell Martin, who stayed in yesterday's game longer than any other starter, is battling a sore groin and will be unavailable today, per Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports.  Ken Gurnick of MLB.com also reports that Martin was taken for an MRI this morning.

Here are the lineups:

White Sox      Dodgers
LF Pierre SS Furcal
2B Beckham CF Kemp
C Pierzynski
RF Ethier
DH Konerko DH Manny
SS Ramirez 1B Loney
1B Kroeger 3B Blake
3B Morel 2B Belliard
RF De Aza LF Paul
CF Mitchell C Ausmus
P Garcia P Stults

Scheduled to pitch today for the Dodgers are Eric Stults, James McDonald, Eric Gagne, Jeff Weaver, Cory Wadeand Russ Ortiz.  Stults and McDonald are each scheduled to pitch two innings.

Scheduled to pitch for the White Sox are Freddy Garcia, Matt Thornton, Tony Peña, Jhonny Nuñez, Brian Omogrosso, and Bobby Jenks.  Nuñez, you may remember, was traded by the Dodgers in late August 2006 to the Nationals for The Greatest Hitter in Dodgers History®.

Tommy Lasorda has been inducted into the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame, the 16th hall of fame for the former Dodger manager.  The ceremony will be tomorrow in Miami, Florida.

A little of both. It’s a ‘limited’ camera shoot.

Yep

Actually, yeah I guess so. I had set my DVR to record the HD Prime Ticket, but I didn’t think about it.

I don't want to know what Russell was doing to hurt his groin

so quickly, ;) but hopefully it’s nothing major. (Seriously, though, those can be nagging injuries. They should give him a rest and give AJ Ellis a chance.)

I think Ozzie Guillen might be in Mesa for the Cubs’ portion of the Sox split squad, making my picture factually inaccurate.

On Schlichting

Original notes by Dodgers today had Schlichting listed to pitch today, and on the list to pitch (at Cubs) tomorrow. I asked if it was planned for him to throw 2 straight days, and apparently he is on the travel roster for tomorrow, but not on the list in the bullpen for today.

So when Steiner said Schlichting was slated to pitch today, he’s working off old info (I think). Still not sure who will fill in that other inning today.

Swing N miss on the last one

No save situation for Gagne (unless Wade comes in first of course)

Weaver sucked so Gagne could look good

that is taking one for an old friend

It was audible on the broadcast…I don’t think it started from his entrance from the bullpen though.

Okay, What Did DeWitt Do?

I realize this may be asking people a lot, but please, how about people posting during these spring training games write like they are INFORMING those of us who can’t watch about what is happening?

Singled in his first at bat. Solid, well hit single.

Walked in his second at bat. Stole second. Advance to third on ground out. Scored on a wild pitch.

He is not skittish when receiving the feed at 2b with the runner bearing down,
he hangs in like someone who welcomes contact.
