Dodgers Ready For Home Opener, on TV
White Sox (0-1-1) at Dodgers (1-0)
12:05pm, Camelback Ranch, Glendale, AZ
On the day that potential backup outfielder Garret Anderson arrived at Camelback Ranch, the Dodgers face a former backup outfielder as they battle the White Sox for the second straight day, this time as the home team. Juan Pierre will bat leadoff and play left field for the Sox against his former team. The White Sox are a split squad today, with the other half of the team playing the Cubs in Mesa.
Even though Anderson is a non-roster player, his chances of making the club seem pretty good. "I told him, right now our roster is pretty full," said manager Joe Torre, "but knowing what he brings to the table...I think he's a plus, its just a matter of figuring it out."
Russell Martin, who stayed in yesterday's game longer than any other starter, is battling a sore groin and will be unavailable today, per Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports. Ken Gurnick of MLB.com also reports that Martin was taken for an MRI this morning.
Here are the lineups:
| White Sox | Dodgers |
|||
| LF | Pierre | SS | Furcal | |
| 2B | Beckham | CF | Kemp | |
| C | Pierzynski |
RF | Ethier | |
| DH | Konerko | DH | Manny | |

| 3B | Morel | 2B | Belliard | |
| RF | De Aza | LF | Paul | |

| P | Garcia | P | Stults | |
Scheduled to pitch today for the Dodgers are Eric Stults, James McDonald, Eric Gagne, Jeff Weaver, Cory Wade, and Russ Ortiz. Stults and McDonald are each scheduled to pitch two innings.
Scheduled to pitch for the White Sox are Freddy Garcia, Matt Thornton, Tony Peña, Jhonny Nuñez, Brian Omogrosso, and Bobby Jenks. Nuñez, you may remember, was traded by the Dodgers in late August 2006 to the Nationals for The Greatest Hitter in Dodgers History®.
Tommy Lasorda has been inducted into the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame, the 16th hall of fame for the former Dodger manager. The ceremony will be tomorrow in Miami, Florida.

Yep
From the Dodgers:
In an effort to provide more Spring Training games to fans than ever before, PRIME TICKET’s "Camelback Vision" telecasts will air with minimized production, as is appropriate for the atmosphere of Spring Training

So I guess HD is out of the question?

Actually, yeah I guess so. I had set my DVR to record the HD Prime Ticket, but I didn’t think about it.

I don't want to know what Russell was doing to hurt his groin
so quickly, ;) but hopefully it’s nothing major. (Seriously, though, those can be nagging injuries. They should give him a rest and give AJ Ellis a chance.)

It's pouring in Southern Cal
glad its nice in AZ

quite a crowd gathering here in the left field grass area as Mr McCourt is signing autographs right behind me

Tony Jackson said McCourt will “allegedly speak to the media sometime during the game.” That always goes well

In the other White Sox game (against Cubs):
Andruw Jones just stole his second base of the spring – following an infield hit!

Heh.
I’ll have you know that Clipper games are rocking nowadays!
Kind of. Actually, the majority of people who go to Clipper games nowadays go for free it seems

It's also a lot closer to AZ from LA
than it is from Chicago, so it’s not that surprising.

I HATE those Corona commericals
why would the asshole bring the blackberry then throw it into the ocean?
If that commercial was 45 seconds instead of 30, we would have seen the guy complete his fit of rage, throwing his blackberry into the ocean after realizing he didn’t know how to work it.

On Schlichting
Original notes by Dodgers today had Schlichting listed to pitch today, and on the list to pitch (at Cubs) tomorrow. I asked if it was planned for him to throw 2 straight days, and apparently he is on the travel roster for tomorrow, but not on the list in the bullpen for today.
So when Steiner said Schlichting was slated to pitch today, he’s working off old info (I think). Still not sure who will fill in that other inning today.
Glad my bookie didn’t pick up his phone in time.

I’m at the angels a’s game and their facility has nothing on camelback ranch. Seriously.

What are your friends Angels fans or something?
by Michael White on Mar 6, 2010 12:39 PM PST up reply actions
You guessed it. He was going alone originally and invited me when my gf broke up with me. He decided to go to the dodger game yesterday instead of angels to treat me. But now it’s all angels from now on. Oh well it’s still baseball

The A’s facility? I went there last year…seemed like an old single A park.

That’s what I said to my friend. It looks like Lancaster but not as nice.

Aarowhead CU park, where the 66ers play, is a nicer facility IMO too

Charley still
using the tin can mic. Time to upgrade that, Camelback.
Also, please don’t mention Braden Looper again. Thanks. (How can anyone watch Stults and McDonald’s stuff and then think Looper is better.)
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants country, and damned proud of it.
Looper should do as his name suggests. If Steve Williams is mad at Tiger, as reports have said, perhaps Looper could caddy for Eldrick.

Torre after the game: “I thought McDonald looked a bit frazzled out there after the bunt single. He just didn’t look comfortable.”
Aww I bet he
actually says something encouraging about him Willing to bet on that in fact.

From Molly Knight:
About to go into McCourt’s suite with other media. Apparently the Dodgers flew in all their minor leaguers for a meeting with him
Did McCourt give them a speech about how even though mommy and daddy are splitting, they still love all their children?
by Michael White on Mar 6, 2010 12:45 PM PST up reply actions
Actually he is trying to win their love by buying them gifts. And he’s explaining that there will be two Christmases this year. :)

Just sat down
Got my spaghetti, my drink, my fire, and now I shall try to quickly catch up to the rest of you. Sounds like Stults was great and I have some hitting to look forward to.

Forgot to mention this earlier (although I tweeted it)
Tomorrow, Dodgers are scheduled to pitch Clayton Kershaw, Josh Towers, Carlos Monasterios, Ramon Troncoso, and Travis Schlichting.
Big question
Do the Dodgers move DeWitt to the field (doubt it) this game, forfeiting the DH? Dun, dun dunnnnn
Maybe they don't enforce that in the spring
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
Jon Morosi of Fox Sports:
#Dodgers owner Frank McCourt just met with media. Some entertaining exchanges but wouldn’t talk about his divorce’s affect on club
Pretty funny
White Sox new SS (“number 83”), apparently unlisted and up from minor league camp, is wearing an adjustable cap. Rick & Charley are having a good time with this.
If Martin
hurt his groin after the 5th inning yesterday, I’m going to be irritated.

Dodgers still searching for first spring home run
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
Steve Dilbeck caught up with Kenley Jansen:
Only 22, he still has plenty of time to master his new position. Thus far, he said, his arm and shoulder have not suffered any particular strain while he builds strength.
``The funny thing is, I figured when I became a pitcher there would be soreness and pain and stuff like that,’’ he said. ``You feel kind of tight and sore, but nothing you can’t handle.’’
DeWitt is letting Belliard know he will not go Hudson in to the night.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
Belliard better lose more weight if he expects to keep up with #33 – Blake DeWitt.

Swing N miss on the last one
he doesn’t have the look of a ball player like Barton does.

Weaver sucked so Gagne could look good

2 nice pitches from Gagne. Fastball on the outside corner and a decent curve ball to induce the ground ball
Ya, I thought he had it
a nice play nonetheless

Okay, What Did DeWitt Do?
I realize this may be asking people a lot, but please, how about people posting during these spring training games write like they are INFORMING those of us who can’t watch about what is happening?
Singled in his first at bat. Solid, well hit single.
Walked in his second at bat. Stole second. Advance to third on ground out. Scored on a wild pitch.
