Ethier vs kemp
who ends up with a higher SLUGGING %…?
i would go with ethier
I think Ethier will end up hitting more doubles, along with a good amount of HRs, so Ethier will, but I think both will get over a .520 slugging percentage.
I was 16 years old that year. It was truly special to see him hit the living crap out of the ball that month.
My son is….16 years old. He’s a Dodger fan but with all of the other entertainment options he doesn’t have near the appreciation of this month by Kemp that I do. Although Kemp is the man, as far as we both are concerned. (Andrea is the man to my three daughters, however.)

THE BISON!!!!!!!
I hope the fans will realize that this is the year Kemp will be an all star and vote him in instead of punching their ballot for Carlos Beltran.
The coaches robbed him last year, so far he is making sure he won’t get robbed again.
starting outfield in all star game?
kemp upton and braun?
manny might get voted in tho…
I think there might be enough steroid backlash to prevent Manny getting voted.

I don't think UPton will get voted in
the basic fan is not familiar with him. Kemp is getting voted in by a landslide this year. I guarantee it.

Heyward will get some votes; he’s already an ESPN favorite.

Great article on him and the travel team he played on near Atlanta in SI this week. Truly a baseball (and Brave) factory.
The thing that impressed me is that, like Kemp, he seems like a well grounded young man. Expect good things from him.
My favorite Kemp story this year so far is that he spent some time w/Tori Hunter in the offseason working out. He went and stayed at his house for a month or so. I love these stories about veterans taking guys under their wings, even if it’s from an opposing team. And especially when the kid responds and works his ass off.
Contrast that with Sheffield “working out” w/Bonds and it turning into a flaxseed rub off.

The commenters at Red Reporter
must really be enjoying the eyeful they are getting of Dodger OFs batting.

You must live outside of L.A? If so Versus will stay with that game until it ends. They could cut in every now and then.
Haven't missed much.
No score. Not much of anything yet. 13:00 left in the 1st.
John Ely with another solid outing for Albuquerque tonight
6 1/3 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 5 K, 94 pitches
nice!
dont think he has enough to be a dodger starter in the major leagues tho
I'm not so sure...
It’s not like the bar is set all that high at the moment

Really
if he can’t for this rotation then he can’t start for any rotation.

ramon
does the guy EVER throw a first pitch strike????
He was on par with most of the rest of the staff. It was Russ who was in the 20% range

I realize this ballpark is ridiculous and no lead seems safe this year
but wasn’t a 7-run lead in the 8th inning Monk time to being with?

Re: Phil (or anyone else)
To what degree does Honeycutt work with the relievers during spring training and throughout the season? I’m not familiar with all the different pitching coaches, so I guess if there are more specialized reliever coaches Honeycutt’s influence can be discounted.
The Belisario case
was unusual last year and I don’t think Honeycut worked with him at all. He was late for camp, then was lights out in minor league camp. They sent him to major league camp near the end of spring training where he wowed them and found himself on a plane to Los Angeles where he wowed them again against the Angels. I’ve heard nothing of Honeycut working with him. Ken Howell is the bullpen coach.

According to Gameday, Monk got squeezed - first two balls were strikes
Although the lower one hsasn’t been a strike all night.

LA has scored in 7 of their 8 innings tonight -- all but the 4th.

Man, Carroll looked overmatched
that would never happen to Eckstein

I saw O-Dog’s cycle on opening day last year in person.
That’s probably why him getting benched late in the year pissed me off so much. I had never seen that and he was only the 2nd Dodger ever to do that since Wes Palker when I was 7!

It was within a minute of each other
If only I wasn’t already responding to the Neftali Feliz post. :(
I hope we whack
MIke Leake because Red Reporter feels he’s one guy we won’t hit.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
lol
hes walked 7 and 4 or 5)? in 2 games so far… and hes supposdly a control pitcher with 90 MPH fastball..
I'd rather not send him
if he has to slide with a 7 run lead
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
Hope so
might be last three innings he ever pitches in the major leagues

just wondering
why is that so truly remarkable? he got 2 walks and a HBP so he was on base 4 times.. is what he did truly remarkable or what the hitters behind him are doing?
Well, Dodgers will just have to settle for 14 runs
Too bad they can’t roll over some of these to the next game
Normally that makes nervous
but this outfield just seems primed to deliver
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
The outfield is the big story for the Dodgers, but what we are seeing for the first time since early 2008 is a healthy Rafael Furcal. He is the straw that stirs the drink ;)
isnt it usualy after big scoring games
the team puts up a 3 runs or less performance the next day?
For the Giants it would be uber scoring
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
Polanco hurt
Phillies ended with Castro at SS at Valdez at 3rd. Shades of 2005 Dodgers

broxton vs neftali feliz
who would you rather have as your closer for the next 5 years?
Broxton cause id put feliz in my rotation.
by UCLADodger32 on Apr 21, 2010 7:44 PM PDT up reply actions
I'd rather have Broxton
because he’s proven himself as a studly closer with 100 MPH heat. Feliz has the potential to be a skinnier Broxton with slightly more heat (possibly, I think Broxton hits over 100 every once and a while), but he’s still a rookie this year and needs to prove himself (though he’s done a damn fine job so far).
have you seen feliz stats?
31 innings last year 13 hits .65 WHIP
this year 7 innings 2 hits… striking out batters at an absurd rate at 20/21 years old….
i would take broxton if he was pitching at DS… but anywhere else… i’d go feliz
Monk doesn't bother with Votto
Smart move on his part
Kuo activated for tomorrow?
would love to know we had Kuo/Broxton for Thursday
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
SF Giants 5 runs in the 4 games since the 9-0 victory over the Dodgers
LA Dodgers 25 runs in 3 games since losing 9-0 to the Giants.
The Giants
Lincecum – Cain – The rest are plain
Look at that, he hit the f*cking bull! Guy gets a free steak!

ONLY as your closer both costing 400,000 for the next 5 years
broxton or feliz
Not taking contracts into consideration I'd go with Broxton
But Broxton will cost a crap load in 2 years.
Weird pitching, weird defense, unstoppable offense
Just another day in the life of the 2010 Dodgers. Go blue…
27 pitches for 1 2/3 scoreless innings for Monk
Not bad for the rook.
The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.
i say keep him...
i think he will become a better troncoso…
he will K more then troncoso.. and troncosos GB rate and K rate have plumeetted..
lost in all the other stuff
is the fact that Troncoso was NOT the same pitcher in the 2nd half last year as he was in the 1st. Maybe Torre just blew his arm out
fate has a funny way of stepping in
today could have been the last day for him on the Dodger roster. But Weaver gets hurt, might go on the 15 day DL which would buy Monk a respite. If he pitches well during that stretch…who knows?
Padres have gone from 4 games back to 1 game up in just 6 days
Dodgers need to learn a thing or two about that.
Let's keep the Monk around a little longer
now that Weaver might have to take some DL time
defintly
just dont put him in against justin upton in a tie game in the 7th inning please..
Dodger Outfield
7-12, 6R, 6RBI, 4BB, 2HR.
Red Review might want to get on board the train now.
he is Suppose to be a control pitcher
but hes had bad control in his first 2 starts and gotten extremly lucky.. but he does only hit 90
While I am truly impressed and happy with their performance to date, I’ll be more impressed when I see them do the same against the Freak/Cain in SF and the supposed unhittable D-Back rotation in AZ
by KellyStephen on Apr 21, 2010 8:14 PM PDT up reply actions
Eric Collins just said Hiroki Kuroda had his third straight impressive start.
I respectfully disagree
it was impressive
he struggled in the begining and still managed to go 6 innings 3 ER
Another plus - Belisario
It was reassuring to hear he was sitting around 93 and the fastball still had the good movement.
