Damn you Willie Harris…nice catch

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:27 PM PDT reply actions

Did he really have to catch that?

by UCLADodger32 on Apr 24, 2010 1:27 PM PDT reply actions

Yeah…gold glover needs some schooling. Sheesh.

by KellyStephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:29 PM PDT up reply actions

considering how he is defensively this year, he does.

by LAD17 on Apr 24, 2010 2:38 PM PDT up reply actions

Two outs already.

by dsm9412 on Apr 24, 2010 1:29 PM PDT reply actions

Wow, reaching out of the zone on a 2-0 fastball. You’re better than that, Dre.

by UCLADodger32 on Apr 24, 2010 1:29 PM PDT reply actions

Andre

Could be pressing with Manny out.

by bhsportsguy on Apr 24, 2010 1:31 PM PDT up reply actions

A Bison Steal, followed by a Loney line drive single should do the trick

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:30 PM PDT reply actions

I guess everybody watching and playing in this game knew that Kemp was going.

by Michael White on Apr 24, 2010 1:31 PM PDT reply actions

Only thing missing was the scoreboard message (on the road of course) :)

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:32 PM PDT up reply actions

Hell of a throw there by Nieves….did Kemp not get a good jump, or was the throw that good?

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:32 PM PDT reply actions

It seems like every throw made against Kemp this year has just been perfect.

by UCLADodger32 on Apr 24, 2010 1:32 PM PDT up reply actions

He looked like he got his hand in

by abru3 on Apr 24, 2010 1:32 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

Throw was high, had to reach up and bring it down, still out

by 68elcamino427 on Apr 24, 2010 1:33 PM PDT up reply actions

On the replay, yeah, that jump was bad

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:33 PM PDT up reply actions

He’s gotten bad jumps all year in the field and stealing bases. Hopefully its just a funk because thats a lot of outs early in the season.

by UCLADodger32 on Apr 24, 2010 1:35 PM PDT up reply actions

Someone is draining his brain off the field?

by 68elcamino427 on Apr 24, 2010 1:35 PM PDT up reply actions

Or he added muscle in the offseason (7 HR’s so far) which has taken away from his explosiveness

by Michael White on Apr 24, 2010 1:35 PM PDT up reply actions

Close play, but looked like he was safe on the replay.

by UCLADodger32 on Apr 24, 2010 1:34 PM PDT reply actions

Tag got the shirt sleeve, good call

by 68elcamino427 on Apr 24, 2010 1:34 PM PDT up reply actions

I thought it tagged him as well

by Michael White on Apr 24, 2010 1:35 PM PDT up reply actions

I thought he tagged him but that his hand was in before the tag. close play.

by UCLADodger32 on Apr 24, 2010 1:35 PM PDT up reply actions

I disagree

it looked to me like the tag was quick enough to get him

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:35 PM PDT up reply actions

Looked like he was in there from my angle. But it was a really close play and I’m obviously biased.

by dsm9412 on Apr 24, 2010 1:37 PM PDT up reply actions

Great effort by Loney for the out

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:34 PM PDT reply actions

That was a nice play by Loney

by abru3 on Apr 24, 2010 1:34 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

hell of a play there

didnt think he’d make it, if he had to go like 3 more feet to his left I think he would ave fallen flat on his face lol

William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.

by Ollie on Apr 24, 2010 1:35 PM PDT reply actions

Now Monk is in…double switch

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:35 PM PDT reply actions

Is Reed Johnson coming in for Kemp???

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:35 PM PDT reply actions

that would be effing epic.

by UCLADodger32 on Apr 24, 2010 1:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Awesome. I love taking out our best player in extra innings.

by UCLADodger32 on Apr 24, 2010 1:38 PM PDT up reply actions

well it worked so well for the Cardinals last week

(actually, their 2nd best player, but same principle)

by sarcastro9 on Apr 24, 2010 1:38 PM PDT up reply actions

You think eight more hitters are going to come up for the Dodgers?

by dsm9412 on Apr 24, 2010 1:38 PM PDT up reply actions

you never know

happened to the Cardinals last week- about 2 or 3 times!

by sarcastro9 on Apr 24, 2010 1:39 PM PDT up reply actions

If the game goes another 2 innings, yes.

by UCLADodger32 on Apr 24, 2010 1:39 PM PDT up reply actions

This is looking more likely with every pitch.

by dsm9412 on Apr 24, 2010 1:44 PM PDT up reply actions

Johnson in for Kemp, batting 4th (due up 9th)

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:37 PM PDT reply actions

I meant Monasterios is batting 4th…Reed is 9th

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:37 PM PDT up reply actions

Kemp, sit down and think about it

by 68elcamino427 on Apr 24, 2010 1:38 PM PDT up reply actions

I’m all for the double switch, but not for Kemp or Ethier.

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:38 PM PDT reply actions

Joe’s still new to this NL thing.

by Michael White on Apr 24, 2010 1:39 PM PDT up reply actions

Not much has wirked for the Bison today and Torre is pissed

by 68elcamino427 on Apr 24, 2010 1:40 PM PDT up reply actions

Honestly, I don’t really have strong feelings about this move one way or the other. Just saying that upfront before people claim victory in hindsight (if Johnson drives in go-ahead run, or game is still going when Kemp’s spot would have been up.)

by Michael White on Apr 24, 2010 1:41 PM PDT up reply actions

I get the move, in theory…he wants Monasterios to pitch at least 2 innings if needed. I just don’t like removing Kemp. I’m not sure if it’s worth letting Monasterios hit for himself should he bat, but it doesn’t feel right taking out Kemp.

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:42 PM PDT up reply actions

Good for Monasterios…and Sherrill

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:41 PM PDT reply actions

and the 13th if he needs to last that long

by 68elcamino427 on Apr 24, 2010 1:42 PM PDT up reply actions

Well, ya. That’s the point of the double switch. Monk is in there for a while.

by Michael White on Apr 24, 2010 1:42 PM PDT up reply actions

well it's great to see Sherrill being Sherrill again

no matter what else happens, at least we have that. :/

by sarcastro9 on Apr 24, 2010 1:42 PM PDT reply actions

Pen actually was pretty good today—get Beli, Kuo and Sherrill going and things should right themselves.

by Little Blue Bicycle on Apr 24, 2010 1:43 PM PDT up reply actions

Can we win already, I'm missing the Fox game of the Week

(not an actual complaint)

Look at that, he hit the f*cking bull! Guy gets a free steak!

by Josie Becker on Apr 24, 2010 1:42 PM PDT reply actions

Loney just missed on that one.

These are horrible swings by LAD today

by Michael White on Apr 24, 2010 1:44 PM PDT reply actions

Is 3 HR today too much to ask for?

by dsm9412 on Apr 24, 2010 1:45 PM PDT reply actions

Another poor 2-0 swing. Guys, its 2-0, pick a zone and let it go if it isnt there. 2-0 2 seamers tailing off of the plate are not what you want to go after.

by UCLADodger32 on Apr 24, 2010 1:45 PM PDT reply actions

do you mean to say it’s not a guess zone time?

by 68elcamino427 on Apr 24, 2010 1:46 PM PDT up reply actions

I’m not sure they called it unearned. If so, that’s a tough call to make. 2 outs at the time, runner going on contact probably scores from 2nd anyway

by Michael White on Apr 24, 2010 1:47 PM PDT up reply actions

The scorer was unimpressed by Adam Kennedy’s speed :)

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:48 PM PDT up reply actions

Let's not go down that road

It’s not like Manny was carrying the team in the least, he was just having a good year so far like a lot of other Dodgers hitters

by aducker on Apr 24, 2010 1:49 PM PDT up reply actions

.415/.500/.659 = “just having a good year”???

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:49 PM PDT up reply actions

Just saying

Manny’s no bum, but there are a lot of things going right with this Dodgers offense both with and without Manny

by aducker on Apr 24, 2010 1:51 PM PDT up reply actions

The defense presents exhibit 50 day suspension

Look at that, he hit the f*cking bull! Guy gets a free steak!

by Josie Becker on Apr 24, 2010 1:49 PM PDT up reply actions

Seems too early to make that call.

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:49 PM PDT up reply actions

Overall the teams that make the fewest mistakes will win the most games, other things being equal …

by 68elcamino427 on Apr 24, 2010 1:50 PM PDT up reply actions

But are other things equal?

The offense is still pretty damn good, as is the pitching (by their track record, not their 2010 performance so far)

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:51 PM PDT up reply actions

The pitchers and the people backing them up in the field need to sharpen things up in order to turn things around.

by 68elcamino427 on Apr 24, 2010 1:53 PM PDT up reply actions

So far this year, they’ve been pretty mediocre with him.

by Little Blue Bicycle on Apr 24, 2010 1:50 PM PDT up reply actions

Oh look 2-0

Look at that, he hit the f*cking bull! Guy gets a free steak!

by Josie Becker on Apr 24, 2010 1:48 PM PDT reply actions

Another garbage 2-0 swing. What in the world is going on?

by UCLADodger32 on Apr 24, 2010 1:49 PM PDT reply actions

Monasterios has a tough stretch this inning

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:50 PM PDT reply actions

Two nice off speed pitches to Dunn by Monasterios

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:52 PM PDT reply actions

I’m a fan of Monasterios’ change up

by Michael White on Apr 24, 2010 1:52 PM PDT reply actions

Nice pitch selection there…backwards K

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:54 PM PDT reply actions

Wasn’t a strike at all, but good idea to go there

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:54 PM PDT up reply actions

The ump was calling that corner all day. CK got some backwards K’s in the exact same spot

by Michael White on Apr 24, 2010 1:55 PM PDT up reply actions

monk is throwing really hard for him. 92-3. A heck of a lot better than 88-9/

by UCLADodger32 on Apr 24, 2010 1:55 PM PDT reply actions

I hate that. you should have to show a flesh wound to get to first.

by UCLADodger32 on Apr 24, 2010 1:55 PM PDT up reply actions

Willingham thankful he decided on the XL undershirt instead of the L

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:55 PM PDT reply actions

Willingham is 4-4 in Sbs while Matt Kemp is 2-7. something isnt right with those numbers.

Helping to swing the DFA pendulum back toward Ortiz the Elder

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:58 PM PDT up reply actions

Ball ended up in a bad spot, but Harris was completely fooled.

by UCLADodger32 on Apr 24, 2010 1:57 PM PDT reply actions

Wow, that was a little too close to a GW double for my tastes.

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:59 PM PDT reply actions

Ethier certainly had a nice view of that ball dropping foul

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:59 PM PDT up reply actions

That was a little too close. Phewww

He’d never have made that catch, lol

Sorry for swearing earlier, Torre. You were right.

by sarcastro9 on Apr 24, 2010 2:02 PM PDT up reply actions

C'mon now

that was not a difficult catch

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 2:03 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm sorry Eric

but the way Kemp has looked this year in the field so far…it’s not a given he would’ve gotten it.

by sarcastro9 on Apr 24, 2010 2:05 PM PDT up reply actions

It wasn’t a catch on the run, it didn’t involve jumping. I’m fairly certain he would have had that ball

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 2:06 PM PDT up reply actions

exactly

you’re fairly certain.

Truth be told, my original comment was slightly facetious. But only slightly.

by sarcastro9 on Apr 24, 2010 2:08 PM PDT up reply actions

Still, good inning by MonKK

I'm liking the bullpen today

If it were not for that error that allowed the run to tie the game we might not have ever known our bullpen could perform this well this year.

by aducker on Apr 24, 2010 2:01 PM PDT reply actions

If only our offense didn’t suck so bad this year.

by KellyStephen on Apr 24, 2010 2:03 PM PDT up reply actions

ok, do we REALLY want to return Monk to Philly

so they might fortify their one weakness? Haven’t we helped their franchise enough already with Vic & the last 2 NLCSs?

(and yes, I know he had help from the ump & that last shot was lucky, but nevertheless…not bad at all)

by sarcastro9 on Apr 24, 2010 2:03 PM PDT reply actions

I agree, hopefully something can be worked out.

by NotJoeTorre on Apr 24, 2010 2:04 PM PDT up reply actions

Probably. Zimmerman or Rodriguez

by K3vo on Apr 24, 2010 2:14 PM PDT reply actions

At least Ramon isn’t just dozing off in the bullpen. He knew full well that Ellis hitting means he needs to pitch.

by Michael White on Apr 24, 2010 2:14 PM PDT reply actions

That was a pretty funny sequence

by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 2:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Ramon Ortiz went 2 2/3 innings and made 48 pitches yesterday.

by Alex41592 on Apr 24, 2010 2:15 PM PDT up reply actions

I’m aware. Doesn’t change the fact that he’s the only man left in the bullpen.

It’s either him or Padilla if this game gets tied up.

This is stupid. I meant something like this:

by silverwidow on Apr 24, 2010 2:29 PM PDT up reply actions

maybe combine the two

The picture with the words “Monk”- though the font would have to be something a little bit more violent. :)

Weaver's DL stint

could be as historic as when Derek Jeter healed in time to play in the bigs, so the Yankees decided not to trade Mariano Rivera for Felix Fermin at the last minute.

Too much? :)

Small sample size, etc., etc., but yeah, you have to wonder if we saw something big just now. That was one helluva three innings.

There are times when the Win stat is ridiculous and can be ridiculed. This is not one of those times.

I know everybody is going off on this guy, but man, what a performance. That wasn’t gonna be easy, it didn’t look easy, and for a guy like Monasterios, a longshot to even make the major leagues, it’s a beautiful thing.

I’m watching the 12th and Reed Johnson is in CF, I’m about to go back and read the comments but I hope I don’t find out Kemp is hurt.

He got double switched for, a move that almost came back to bite Torre in his butt.

by UCLADodger32 on Apr 24, 2010 2:34 PM PDT up reply actions

Great fucking performance by Monk. 1 WAR for him! Honestly, he looked like a completely different pitcher. If the gun was right, he was sitting at 91-93, which is a 3-5 mph bump over his previous outings. That just makes all of the difference in the world, which we saw today.

Also, big booboo by Riggleman. He should have walked Russ and Ethier to load the bases for Monk. Ramon wasnt warming up, and even if they pinch hit, its not like AJ Ellis is some world beater.

by UCLADodger32 on Apr 24, 2010 2:33 PM PDT reply actions

Congratulations, Dodgers fans

We threw everything we had at you had today and you withstood the challenges today. Got to be a satisfying win, and I hope that as you are enjoying this win you realize that We Aren’t the Nothing Nats this year. Not a playoff team or a playoff contender, but a team that is absolutely no fun to play.

Operation Respect continues, but I want wins not respect. Thanks a lot of taking away that win.

That's certainly true. Morgan has been a mixed bag for us this year. We'll take him, but he's got to be better.

They think of him as a long term solution in CF, and he’s got a long way to go to show he’s not just a poor man’s Juan Pierre.

much appreciated

and I hope your Nats earn some more respect in the near-term future, as well…we’re getting sick of losing to the Phillies in October all the time! :) (twice qualifies as “all the time” when you consider HOW they lost each time)

by sarcastro9 on Apr 24, 2010 2:37 PM PDT up reply actions

Don't see how that happens.

The Phillies beat up on us pretty good and all of our little spot your so-so stuff ground ball pitchers get waited out by the Phillies and abused. Until Strasburg and Zimmermann can give us 180+ quality innings apiece we’re going to struggle to threaten or contend. The good news is that we’re playing .500 ball against quality teams like the Rockies and Dodgers.

hey man, that was a fun game to watch. Not the best baseball but fun nonetheless. We’ll see you again tomorrow, but after that be sure to beat up on the Phillies a bit for us :D

Would have been kicking myself if they had won for not going to the game. Hoping to hit the grandstands for tomorrow’s game if I can get up early enough.

I mean, I know I’m not a very nice guy. I’m kind of a dick. I could be a better husband and father. But letting Ortiz start for my team — that’s not karma, that’s just mean.

Missed the game

for the most part, but listening to the raido it sounded as if the DOdgers were lucky to win this one because of the baserunning gaffe where the runner got thrown at at third while the go ahead run scored and then not pinch running for a gimpy IROD (with a starting pitcher) and he wasn’t able to score on the long double.
