Casey Blake has driven in every run today.

Yeah…gold glover needs some schooling. Sheesh.

Only thing missing was the scoreboard message (on the road of course) :)

It seems like every throw made against Kemp this year has just been perfect.
by UCLADodger32 on Apr 24, 2010 1:32 PM PDT up reply actions
Throw was high, had to reach up and bring it down, still out
by 68elcamino427 on Apr 24, 2010 1:33 PM PDT up reply actions
He’s gotten bad jumps all year in the field and stealing bases. Hopefully its just a funk because thats a lot of outs early in the season.
by UCLADodger32 on Apr 24, 2010 1:35 PM PDT up reply actions
Someone is draining his brain off the field?
by 68elcamino427 on Apr 24, 2010 1:35 PM PDT up reply actions
Or he added muscle in the offseason (7 HR’s so far) which has taken away from his explosiveness
by Michael White on Apr 24, 2010 1:35 PM PDT up reply actions
I thought he tagged him but that his hand was in before the tag. close play.
by UCLADodger32 on Apr 24, 2010 1:35 PM PDT up reply actions
I disagree
it looked to me like the tag was quick enough to get him
by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:35 PM PDT up reply actions
hell of a play there
didnt think he’d make it, if he had to go like 3 more feet to his left I think he would ave fallen flat on his face lol
William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.
Awesome. I love taking out our best player in extra innings.
by UCLADodger32 on Apr 24, 2010 1:38 PM PDT up reply actions
well it worked so well for the Cardinals last week
(actually, their 2nd best player, but same principle)
If the game goes another 2 innings, yes.
by UCLADodger32 on Apr 24, 2010 1:39 PM PDT up reply actions
what was so funny? Did Monk not realize he was being called in or something

I meant Monasterios is batting 4th…Reed is 9th

Not much has wirked for the Bison today and Torre is pissed
by 68elcamino427 on Apr 24, 2010 1:40 PM PDT up reply actions
Honestly, I don’t really have strong feelings about this move one way or the other. Just saying that upfront before people claim victory in hindsight (if Johnson drives in go-ahead run, or game is still going when Kemp’s spot would have been up.)
by Michael White on Apr 24, 2010 1:41 PM PDT up reply actions
I get the move, in theory…he wants Monasterios to pitch at least 2 innings if needed. I just don’t like removing Kemp. I’m not sure if it’s worth letting Monasterios hit for himself should he bat, but it doesn’t feel right taking out Kemp.
by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:42 PM PDT up reply actions
I guess Joe just knows that Blake is going to hit a solo shot soon
So who needs the total slackers like Kemp
and the 13th if he needs to last that long
by 68elcamino427 on Apr 24, 2010 1:42 PM PDT up reply actions
Well, ya. That’s the point of the double switch. Monk is in there for a while.
by Michael White on Apr 24, 2010 1:42 PM PDT up reply actions
well it's great to see Sherrill being Sherrill again
no matter what else happens, at least we have that. :/
Pen actually was pretty good today—get Beli, Kuo and Sherrill going and things should right themselves.

Another poor 2-0 swing. Guys, its 2-0, pick a zone and let it go if it isnt there. 2-0 2 seamers tailing off of the plate are not what you want to go after.
do you mean to say it’s not a guess zone time?
by 68elcamino427 on Apr 24, 2010 1:46 PM PDT up reply actions
I’m not sure they called it unearned. If so, that’s a tough call to make. 2 outs at the time, runner going on contact probably scores from 2nd anyway
by Michael White on Apr 24, 2010 1:47 PM PDT up reply actions
The scorer was unimpressed by Adam Kennedy’s speed :)
by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:48 PM PDT up reply actions
Let's not go down that road
It’s not like Manny was carrying the team in the least, he was just having a good year so far like a lot of other Dodgers hitters
.415/.500/.659 = “just having a good year”???
by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:49 PM PDT up reply actions
Just saying
Manny’s no bum, but there are a lot of things going right with this Dodgers offense both with and without Manny
Its inevitable other guys regress, but not Manny?

Overall the teams that make the fewest mistakes will win the most games, other things being equal …
by 68elcamino427 on Apr 24, 2010 1:50 PM PDT up reply actions
But are other things equal?
The offense is still pretty damn good, as is the pitching (by their track record, not their 2010 performance so far)
by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 1:51 PM PDT up reply actions
The pitchers and the people backing them up in the field need to sharpen things up in order to turn things around.

So far this year, they’ve been pretty mediocre with him.

I'm sorry Eric
but the way Kemp has looked this year in the field so far…it’s not a given he would’ve gotten it.
It wasn’t a catch on the run, it didn’t involve jumping. I’m fairly certain he would have had that ball
by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 2:06 PM PDT up reply actions
exactly
you’re fairly certain.
Truth be told, my original comment was slightly facetious. But only slightly.
Well, it was, ’til Johnson ran to the spot and was waiting ofr the ball to land in his glove

I'm liking the bullpen today
If it were not for that error that allowed the run to tie the game we might not have ever known our bullpen could perform this well this year.
If only our offense didn’t suck so bad this year.
by KellyStephen on Apr 24, 2010 2:03 PM PDT up reply actions
ok, do we REALLY want to return Monk to Philly
so they might fortify their one weakness? Haven’t we helped their franchise enough already with Vic & the last 2 NLCSs?
(and yes, I know he had help from the ump & that last shot was lucky, but nevertheless…not bad at all)

come on, Monk- close it out! It’s not REALLY always sunny in Philadelphia, you know. You want to stay HERE!
Especially since if he leaves LAD he’s heading back to Altoona, not to PHL anyway.

Gonzalez, Zimmerman, Morgan
Probably. Zimmerman or Rodriguez
Yes
He was on the “starter program” early in camp…I believe he went 3 once
by Eric Stephen on Apr 24, 2010 2:14 PM PDT up reply actions
At least Ramon isn’t just dozing off in the bullpen. He knew full well that Ellis hitting means he needs to pitch.
I’m aware. Doesn’t change the fact that he’s the only man left in the bullpen.
It’s either him or Padilla if this game gets tied up.
by Michael White on Apr 24, 2010 2:16 PM PDT up reply actions
We’re asking a lot of this kid, but if he just pulls it off it, it would sure turn a corner in his career.

This reminds me a little of Troncoso at Wrigley last season.
All the Nats have is Zimmermann. So Pudge will have to run.

I know Blake knocked in 3 with two homers, but Monk, game ball is yours.
The Ultimate Ned's Kind of Guy
maybe combine the two
The picture with the words “Monk”- though the font would have to be something a little bit more violent. :)
Weaver's DL stint
could be as historic as when Derek Jeter healed in time to play in the bigs, so the Yankees decided not to trade Mariano Rivera for Felix Fermin at the last minute.
Too much? :)
Small sample size, etc., etc., but yeah, you have to wonder if we saw something big just now. That was one helluva three innings.

I just came back - we won?????????????
Did our whole season turn around on a Nyler Noodle Head play?
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
There are times when the Win stat is ridiculous and can be ridiculed. This is not one of those times.
I know everybody is going off on this guy, but man, what a performance. That wasn’t gonna be easy, it didn’t look easy, and for a guy like Monasterios, a longshot to even make the major leagues, it’s a beautiful thing.
The Ultimate Ned's Kind of Guy
I’ll say it again, Ron Rizzi is a friggin’ genius. First Beli and now this kid.

I’m watching the 12th and Reed Johnson is in CF, I’m about to go back and read the comments but I hope I don’t find out Kemp is hurt.

He got double switched for, a move that almost came back to bite Torre in his butt.

Great fucking performance by Monk. 1 WAR for him! Honestly, he looked like a completely different pitcher. If the gun was right, he was sitting at 91-93, which is a 3-5 mph bump over his previous outings. That just makes all of the difference in the world, which we saw today.
Also, big booboo by Riggleman. He should have walked Russ and Ethier to load the bases for Monk. Ramon wasnt warming up, and even if they pinch hit, its not like AJ Ellis is some world beater.
Congratulations, Dodgers fans
We threw everything we had at you had today and you withstood the challenges today. Got to be a satisfying win, and I hope that as you are enjoying this win you realize that We Aren’t the Nothing Nats this year. Not a playoff team or a playoff contender, but a team that is absolutely no fun to play.
Operation Respect continues, but I want wins not respect. Thanks a lot of taking away that win.
erskine has scored...now i can die in peace
That's certainly true. Morgan has been a mixed bag for us this year. We'll take him, but he's got to be better.
They think of him as a long term solution in CF, and he’s got a long way to go to show he’s not just a poor man’s Juan Pierre.
erskine has scored...now i can die in peace
much appreciated
and I hope your Nats earn some more respect in the near-term future, as well…we’re getting sick of losing to the Phillies in October all the time! :) (twice qualifies as “all the time” when you consider HOW they lost each time)
Don't see how that happens.
The Phillies beat up on us pretty good and all of our little spot your so-so stuff ground ball pitchers get waited out by the Phillies and abused. Until Strasburg and Zimmermann can give us 180+ quality innings apiece we’re going to struggle to threaten or contend. The good news is that we’re playing .500 ball against quality teams like the Rockies and Dodgers.
erskine has scored...now i can die in peace
hey man, that was a fun game to watch. Not the best baseball but fun nonetheless. We’ll see you again tomorrow, but after that be sure to beat up on the Phillies a bit for us :D
I’m looking forward to seeing the Nats in person twice this summer.

Missed the game
for the most part, but listening to the raido it sounded as if the DOdgers were lucky to win this one because of the baserunning gaffe where the runner got thrown at at third while the go ahead run scored and then not pinch running for a gimpy IROD (with a starting pitcher) and he wasn’t able to score on the long double.
