Casey Blake was crushed when he missed that putt at the British last year. He was trying to explain to his younger teammates how amazing a story it was that he was sooo close to winning.

by Eric Stephen on Apr 8, 2010 11:08 AM PDT up reply actions

His explanations fell on deaf ears, although they did have a pool going so that’s what the players were interested in.

I felt bad for Tom, especially how it ended, but I like Cink alot and was happy he finally won a Major.

Sure seems like an awful lot of money is being spent advertising the census. Almost seems more cost efficient to hire people to survey everyone themselves.

by Eric Stephen on Apr 8, 2010 12:04 PM PDT reply actions

Funny you mention that

Because the Census has been my biggest project since last October. At the non-profit organization I direct a multi-agency outreach effort – I’ve been living it almost non-stop (it haunts my dreams).

Actually, the advertising is done in hopes that the Census Bureau won’t have to hire more people to go door to door – it’s more expensive to pay for a person to do that. However, come May 1st, the Census Bureau will send a person to each address that did not mail their form in.

I will say that it could’ve been a better process, especially at the start. Right now, the Bureau is playing catch up, with the response rate lower than expected.
