Andrew Lambo Suspended 50 Games
Dodger prospect Andrew Lambo has been suspended 50 games for violating baseball's drug policy, per Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times. Hernandez also notes the suspension was for a "drug of abuse."
The Dodgers released an official statement:
The Dodgers are disappointed to learn of this news and we fully support Major League Baseball’s drug policy and its penalties. The organization does not condone the use of any substance not sanctioned by MLB’s medical staff.
Lambo, voted by TBLA readers as the sixth-best Dodger prospect this offseason, was hitting .342/.390/.566 for Double A Chattanooga. This is just speculation, but might I suggest promoting Kyle Russell to Double A to fill Lambo's vacated outfield spot, which will also open up a spot at High Class A for Jerry Sands, who is tearing the cover off the ball for Low A Great Lakes.
More details to follow.

Not Much Of A Surprise
Wasn’t he caught smoking pot in high school? We got him in the fourth round because other teams were concerned about his make-up.
Is marijuana really something they give fifty game suspensions for? I automatically assumed something more hardcore like meth or coke.
Prosellis...
Marijuana is included under baseball’s “drugs of abuse” category.
So Lincecum didn't get a suspension because he didn't TEST positive?
I guess he also got an infraction for only possession as well, so it can’t be proven he had it in his system.

Pretty crazy stupid when you smoke pot when you know it’s a banned substance and you’re trying to work your way up the minor league chain to the bigs. It’s not like pot’s been classified as a PED and worth the risk. What a douchebag if indeed it’s pot. Well shit, regardless of what it is, what a douchebag.

smoking weed is no crime, but as a professional baseball player he’s got to play by the rules. disappointing, but im behind him. he was raking too…
Drugs of abuse

I'm starting to think it's not pot.
Section 8F: A Player on the Administrative Track for the use or possession of marijuana shall not be subject to suspension. The Player will be subject to fines, which shall be progressive and which shall not exceed $25,000 for any particular violation. Notwithstanding the foregoing, a Player who participates in the sale or distribution (as those terms are used in the criminal code) of marijuana will be subject to the discipline set forth in Section 8.E above.
If I’m wrong, let me know.

In 2007, The Brewers'...
..first round draft pick from the previous year, RHP Jeremy Jeffress, was given a 50-game suspension for testing positive for marijuana, but apparently that suspension came only after Jeffress had failed “numerous” previous drug tests. So it could be that Lambo has also tested positive for marijuana on other occasions and only now is the hammer being brought down. And about Jeffress: he tested positive again last year and is now serving a 100-game suspension. Some people just need to get high.
Have fun at the game tonight everyone
I have my ticket in hand but have come down with some aches, sore throat and a fever. Not a good way to enjoy the ballpark. Upset that I won’t be there to enjoy the good time with you all.

Sorry to hear that
Spawn and I will be leaving from the railroad trestle in about an hour. We’ll be there early to dine on Dodger Dogs… I’d like to be there for the first pitch, especially since we might have to leave early if she turns into a pumpkin.
Sorry you won’t be there. See the rest of you shortly.

Too bad
Was looking forward to saying hello again. Get well soon.
I’m heading out now, should be in the seats at 6:15 or so.

Lambo actually tested positive twice to get this suspension
The first is not disclosed.
Ugh.
And yes, the drugs of abuse are like cocaine, weed, heroid, lsd, etc.
I would imagine that this length os suspension is particularly rough on a minor league player. Fifty games has to be a significant portion of his paycheck.
