Minor League Report 5/12/10 - Towers hopes crumble
AAA – Last year at this time Eric Milton was looking good and was earning his way to a shot in the rotation. Same can't be said of Josh Towers who was lit for the second game in a row for eight earned runs. He's now given up 15 earned runs in six innings. Since I'm not going to make excuses for Elbert or McDonald in this offensive league, I won't make any for Towers. He simply has to be perfect to be successful and it ain't happening. Xavier Paul slugged a home run after proving he was the best fourth or fifth outfielder on the Dodger 40 man roster. DeJesus and May combined to go 0 - 8. DeJesus is just another in a huge line of disappointing performances from our prospects this year. The low average of .228 is hard enough, but the lack of plate discipline (six walks / 120 PA) is the killer. Not sure what Hoffman and DeJesus are drinking but it ain't going to serve them well if they ever get the call. Then again maybe PCL pitchers are smarter then the average bear and are simply going to feed these punchless pussies strike after strike until they prove they can do something with it.
AA – Chris Withrow had his best game of the year but it was still nothing to jump up and down about. He went seven innings, allowing eight hits, but more importantly only one walk. As David pointed out in yesterdays thread six of the eight hits were XBH and he only struck out four. Hopefully Gordon got straightened out as he collected two hits and a walk. It was only his second walk in the last ten games. He also hasn't had an XBH in his last ten games.
A – The 66ers lost 9 - 1 and everyone sucked. Cody White took the brunt of the punishment on the mound and the offense took their cue from out starting SS and did nothing.
Low A - Thank God for the Loons, they won again 5 - 1 behind the superlative pitching of Brett Wallach who went five innings, gave up one run on three hits while striking out six, and walking one. Blake Smith led the offense with two more doubles, three hits, and a walk. Sands only had two singles so he is slacking. With Jaime Ortiz joining the Loons, he has taken over 1st base and Sands has moved to RF. Blake Smith was the DH today. I expect we will see a rotation of Smith/Sands/Songo/Galvez doing OF/DH duties until someone gets promoted or hurt.

Very glad to see Blake Smith doing so well this year
By the end of last August, Smith was looking like a complete bust as a hitter and might have to be switched to a pitcher and would just end up as a relief pitcher, which did not sound appealing to me.
The Los Angeles Blakes?
Funny that we have another guy with Blake in his name down there.
Thanks for the report, was a fun read.

Not to mention
Jamey Carroll’s middle name is Blake.
There have been 16 players in MLB history with Blake somewhere in their name, and the 2010 Dodgers have 3 of them
