Kuo On the Money in May

LOS ANGELES, CA - MAY 22: Hong -Chih Kuo #56 of the Los Angeles Dodgers celebrates his throw to first base for the third out with the bases loaded in front of Ramon Santiago #39 of the Detroit Tigers during the seventh inning at Dodger Stadium on May 22, 2010 in Los Angeles, California. The wasn't a better moment from yesterday's game than Hong-Chih Kuo's fist pump after throwing out Miguel Cabrera to end the seventh inning.  Here is Kuo's game log for May:

Date IP H R ER BB K
May 1 1.0 0 0 0 0 0
May 6 1.0 0 0 0 0 2
May 10 1.0 0 0 0 0 2
May 12 0.2 0 0 0 1 0
May 14 1.1 1 0 0 0 2
May 16 0.2 0 0 0 0 0
May 18 1.0 0 0 0 0 1
May 22 1.0 0 0 0 1 0
Totals 7.2 1 0 0 2 9

Hiroki Kuorda goes for win number six today, and a sweep of the Tigers.  The Dodgers face Rick Porcello, the first time in Clayton Kershaw's career that the Dodgers have faced an opposing pitcher younger than Kershaw (hat tip to Silverwidow).

The Dodgers have won the final game of all seven home series this season, and are 15-7 overall at Dodger Stadium.

Xeifrank's simulation of today's game is here.

Kuo has been on fire lately

Getting him back inform has really stablized the bullpen. Troncoso is already worn down. He needs rest, rest, and more rest. Joe is killing that dude. Sherrill needs to look for another job. Who are the most likely candidates to replace Sherrill, if they would move him, and Troncoso when his arm falls off?
Thanks

I’ll hang up and listen

Maybe Elbert/McDonald to replace them? I hope we don’t waste prospects/2011 payroll on another Sherrill like trade this year.

That would be another way to type it

RIP Jose Lima

Per Bob at DT, he suffered a massive heart attack. Very, very sad.

wow, very sorry to hear that and my condolences to his wife and familia.

Wow

In this case, I didn’t think it was Lima’s Time. Very sudden and shocking.

I'm shocked

So young, and seemingly full of life. I remember seeing him at the Stadium last season with a couple of his LB Armada teammates. Someone said he was there this season and was enjoying the love he was getting the fans. No matter what else he did in his life, he gave Dodger fans a memorable 2004 season, and that playoff win was a thing of beauty.

Just read this on msnbc.

Very sad. Playoff Dodger hero, for sure.

I couldn't believe it when my dad told me

and even more so when he said he was only 37 :(

I remember seeing him at a game a few weeks ago incredibly happy and signing autographs…he was such a great guy.

It was a gorgeous day in Santa Barbara yesterday

Dropped off the students at the beach and headed into town with the wife. Biscuits and gravy at Garrett’s, then a slow, meandering walk amongst all the shops along State. (Had to think of Underdog as I passed Blenders In The Grass.) Had to stop into three different places before we could find one that had the Dodger game. FOX SB affiliate showing Yankees/Mets over the air and the first two places we tried did not pay for the Fox network feeds on their DirecTV. But Santa Barbara Brewing Co did, so we enjoyed some nice microbrews along with the game (Blonde for the wife, Pacific Pale Ale and their IPA for me – all good), which was a pretty good game for viewing. Had dinner their too – like the rare Ahi Tuna steak. Ended off the day with a McConnell’s Ice Cream run (Turkish coffee – mmmmmm) before heading homeward. A win-win-win-…-win day.

Madison’s and State & A, both on State St., should be the best places to see games, I’ve been told, though you won’t usually get sound in mixed-sports season before playoffs. (Sometimes a request from multiple people will be honored.) Good to know about about SB Brewing, though – I wouldn’t have thought of it. Tip – try Brazilian Coffee next time at McConnell’s. Glad you had a nice time. It got really windy later in the evening.

The breeze did come up at times during the day, but it wasn't bad.

Madison’s was the first place we tried, then the bar next door; we didn’t feel like traipsing the 1/2 mile back up to State and A and lucked into SB Brewing on the corner, closer to where we parked anyway. I have had the excellent Brazilian Coffee in the past at McConnell’s. I don’t really care about TV sound in bars, especially for a Fox broadcast.

"Had dinner there too"

The other grammatical errors I don’t care about.

Totally cool

McConnell’s on De La Vina? Nice to hear my high-school hangout is still there, 30+ years on… Blueberry Cheesecake was my all-time favorite flavor

by Connector on May 23, 2010 10:06 AM PDT up reply actions

That was indeed the place.

I tasted a Vermont Blueberry, which was also excellent.

Dodgers game was on FOX SB

Actually, the FOX SB affiliate was showing the Dodgers/Tigers game, as you’d expect, at least on Cox Cable. Those places must have had some strange sports package (maybe one of the satellite packages) that shows a “national”, rather than SB, FOX affiliate.

by berkowit28 on May 23, 2010 10:08 AM PDT up reply actions

All three places

were DirecTV. Only SB Brewing was paying for channel 389. Madison’s tried channel 53 (I think) and that was Yankees/Mets. If Fox was showing the Dodgers over the air, I’m surprised Madison’s was unable to find it – their “Dodgers” search turned up a grayed out 389, today’s game, and nothing else.

The “over the air” channel is 11, plus whatever it might be for FOX HD. But DirectTV must use an east-coast national feed (or, who knows, maybe SF for the west coast – SF was showing the Yankees game, as people here complained yesterday) for its FOX channel. Once you’re linked up to satellite, I doubt you can get “over the air”, no antenna for it.

Is that today’s lineup or 9 people who have never been in your kitchen?

by KellyStephen on May 23, 2010 10:34 AM PDT up reply actions

Anderson? Again?

Is there some RHP/LHP reason why it wouldn’t be Johnson and Paul? Or do you think they’re doing an Andruw – giving a crappy vet “respect”, i.e. enough chances to screw up and actually lose games before getting rid of him?

Porcello is a RHP

So sorry to hear about Jose Lima.

Any word on DeWitt or Green being sent down?

by darrelld on May 23, 2010 10:45 AM PDT reply actions

DeWitt is playing today and Furcal isn’t. So the news won’t come until Tuesday at least.
