Furcal to be Activated Tuesday; Broxton Out Today
Rafael Furcal will be activated Tuesday before the first game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field, manager Joe Torre said today. A corresponding move will not be made until Tuesday, as the Dodgers try to buy time to weigh their options. In addition to designating Nick Green for assignment or optioning Blake DeWitt, Torre said the fact that they are skipping the fifth starter Monday gives the team another roster move option, implying that perhaps a pitcher could be moved to accommodate Furcal. Although Torre didn't mention this explicitly, the most obvious pitcher move would be to designate Ramon Ortiz for assignment.
Jonathan Broxton is not available to pitch today, after pitching in three straight days. Hong-Chih Kuo, who warmed up Friday night and pitched an inning yesterday, is doubtful today. Torre said the closer would depend on the situation, although reading between the Bigelow Green Tea leaves it would seem Belisario is the most likely option. Torre said George Sherrill has been inconsistent, and that he is more likely to be used earlier in the game to get a left-handed batter out. Torre is also unsure of what to expect from the struggling Ramon Troncoso, whom Torre said was overthrowing the ball yesterday.
Torre also likes Russell Martin near the top of the order, and indicated Martin would likely bat second behind Furcal, at least until Andre Ethier is activated from the disabled list.
The last time the Dodgers swept an interleague series was May 19-21, 2006, against the Angels.
Torre was saddened to hear of the passing of Jose Lima, barely more than 24 hours after he was in the stands at Dodger Stadium watching two of his former teams play. Torre described Lima quite well: "You don't know if he had confidence in himself or whether he was talking himself and everybody else into it."

Keith:
Vitti recommended a special splint that immobilizes the first knuckle but leaves the second knuckle flexible. What that does is allow Ethier to swing a bat more-or-less unfettered, which he has been doing in the indoor batting cages. Conte said Ethier already has progressed from hitting off a tee to hitting soft-toss pitches and even catching a ball because the split also allows him to squeeze his glove.
The knuckle that is broken has to be immobilized in order to heal. However, because of the splint, that knuckle can be immobilized without immobilizing the entire finger. That means the fracture doesn’t have to heal completely in order for Ethier to get back on the field. Conte said that when Ethier does return, he will play while wearing the splint, which he will wear constantly until the fracture heals.
This is a major step forward that conceivably could allow Ethier to return from the disabled list as soon as he becomes eligible to do so May 30 at Colorado. And while Conte wouldn’t go so far as to predict that, he did concede that the process is moving much more quickly than it would have without the splint.

From Tiger Blog
I really, really hate Casey Blake. His 9th inning diving stop, turning what looked to be a Miguel Cabrera run scoring single into a fielder’s choice and the 2nd out, was a big reason a comeback wasn’t in the cards.Good thing Blake is no longer in the AL, where he would torture the Tigers far too often.

Evidently Casey Blake has been a Tiger killer throughout his career

Or sending Troncoso to AAA.
Dodgers have two obvious moves coming up
Ortiz DFA
Green DFA

Boston kicking Philly ass
Doc Halladay Cy Young takes a hit. Tells teammates he can’t wait to face NL hitters again.

Greatest pitcher
in the history of the sport gets knocked around :-). Tough to win 25 these days. Not getting a lot help in the last couple of games.
No one can give enough help to make up for a seven run deficit

He has to be tired
of pitching well and losing. Just decided today to get killed early and get a beer.
Things I found out this week
The dude who plays Jesse Pinkman on Breaking Bad was the drunk guy in Van Wilder who called Van “the raddest fucking dude alive.” :)
One for me...
The wife from Modern Family (Julie Bowen) was Adam Sandler’s girlfriend in Happy Gilmore. I think she looks even better now, 14 years later. On another note, I am shocked that Happy Gilmore is 14 years old…

(Kidding)
I heard the other day on ESPN
the target date for Strasburg is the 4th of June. Have you heard anything to rebut or confirm that date?
BTW, June 4th is a Friday night home game vs Cincinnati
That is the first I've seen that "in Beard We Trust" shirt

was over at SOSG. Funny shit. If you get one, get me one (XXL) and send me the bill! :-)
June 4th is what I’ve been hearing as well. I was kind of hoping it would be between 6/7-6/9 because I have those days off…for the draft, as mentioned.

6/7 I am off to
Disney World or Land…whichever is in Florida. The wife planned all of it with her sister. Going to be gone for like 10 days. anyone with any Disney tips or things that will make it a better trip for a rookie, let me know. I hate that the World Cup is starting up while I’m gone as well.
Never been to the one in Florida, it's Disney World BTW
It’s about 10x bigger than Disneyland.

Cool
I didn’t give a f**k about it or the name until I had a kid 2.5 years ago. Now I am going. I have only heard good things about it though. Have 2 days of golf planned and a couple of massages. Should be a cool trip. I wonder if they give happy endings…..
Some pretty nice pitching matchups today
Most aren’t going as planed though. I don’t know if that’s good or bad for us. If the pattern holds.
Rockies get to play Royals
Lucky them, leading 8-0.

That was a Zach Granick Start
There is nothing lucky about getting to face that guy except getting to face him when he’s having a bad day.
Who knew?
After that horrendous start by the Dodgers, we find them tied for second with the Reds for the best record in the NL.
Dodgers and Reds…brings back old NL West feuds.

Fitting, with Sparky Anderson at Dodger Stadium yesterday, too.

What’s more ironic, that the best manager in recent Tigers history is in the hall for the Reds, or the best Dodgers moment in recent history is known for his Tigers years?
Lima is not known for his Tigers’ years.
He had his best seasons in Houston

Man, Lima's passing is still too sad/weird for me
I was there Friday and saw him make his final appearance at a ballpark, I also reminded my friends that he pitched the only Dodger Playoff victory I’ve ever witnessed in person, the shutout on October 9th, 2004….RIP
William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.
Jose Lima managed to have the defining game of Dodgers season in both 2004 (http://bit.ly/aZfSFN) & 2005 (with KC; http://bit.ly/anBUYC)
