Dylan Hernandez is hilarious

On the pregame show, Charley Steiner just asked him how he slept last night with a newborn, and Dylan responded (paraphrased):

I slept fine, but my wife was up all night with the baby, plus she was up early to iron my clothes this morning.

Dylan is no A.J. Ellis

Tony Jackson had a little fun during Torre’s pre-game media session, noting that A.J. Ellis missed the birth of his child to stay with the club, while Dylan took a month off.

Ooh ooh ooh

GA is totally gonna be the outfielder to hit the homerun, right??

RIGHT?

by Maddz on Jun 2, 2010 11:55 AM PDT reply actions

I’m almost to the point with GA where I’m rooting against him to hasten his departure. Actually, I might be there already.

by kinbote on Jun 2, 2010 12:04 PM PDT up reply actions

Why do that

He’s not going anywhere unless they sign another veteran to take his place.

by bhsportsguy on Jun 2, 2010 12:05 PM PDT up reply actions

It's true

I can’t see a non-PVL on the bench in the postseason.

by kinbote on Jun 2, 2010 12:08 PM PDT up reply actions

It goes back to

a player like GA knows his role and isn’t going to make waves about more playing time, Eric has told me that from what he sees he is a good clubhouse guy (which in a 6-month day to day grind is probably more important than we give credit for). A younger player has to be able to know what to do when he isn’t starting, following the game from the bench, anticipating his spots and than getting ready (and all of this is done basically by himself).

by bhsportsguy on Jun 2, 2010 12:11 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah I never understood that

How people will cheer against a player on their team. As long as they are wearing a Dodger uniform, I will cheer for them. Even though they suck.

by EephusBlue on Jun 2, 2010 12:08 PM PDT up reply actions

It depends on what you mean by “cheer.”

There have been players that I just couldn’t bring myself to get excited about when they came up to bat, regardless of the situation. I would NOT actively root for them to fail, of course, but I’d sit on my hands. Julio Lugo, perfect example. I was disappointed by the trade that brought him over, and then, injury added to insult, he didn’t perform well. I sat on my hands, neither cheering nor booing him.

And this is what makes Game 1 so important.

Hey, is John Ely for real? Can he keep up his accuracy throughout the year?
Jerry Crasnick
  (12:19 PM)

Crazy Pete, Ely was 14-2 in Double A ball last year, and the scouts say he really knows how to mix it up and adjust on the second and third time through the order. Ely is an upper 80s, crafty kind of guy, so he gives teams a different look from Billingsley, Kershaw and the Dodgers’ power starters. So far, so good.

Really?

I thought my VHS copy from the late 80’s early 90’s had it on there.

by prosellis on Jun 2, 2010 1:32 PM PDT up reply actions

Copy and paste

When originally released in 1977, the first film was simply titled Star Wars, as the studio (20th Century Fox) forbade Lucas to use a subtitle because it could be confusing, since there had been no other Star Wars movies prior to 1977. 14In addition, it was not certain if the film would be followed with a sequel. Following the release of Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back in 1980, the film was re-released in 1981 with the subtitle “Episode IV: A NEW HOPE” to match its sequel’s crawl. The original version, without the subtitle, was not released until the 2006 limited edition DVDs.

Pretty interesting. Thanks.

by prosellis on Jun 2, 2010 1:34 PM PDT up reply actions

Lucas didn’t start changing his films in 1997. He did it in the 80’s too.

by Alex41592 on Jun 2, 2010 1:34 PM PDT up reply actions

This is different

My understanding is he had a plan for the full series including prequels from the beginning. Like you said above, he didn’t put the subtitle because Fox wouldn’t let him.

by nolander on Jun 2, 2010 1:42 PM PDT up reply actions

but they retcon’d so much in the prequels that if that were the case, then there was some AMAZINGLY sloppy screenplay writing for the original trilogy.

by Maddz on Jun 2, 2010 1:43 PM PDT up reply actions

well

The thing is it was probably more an outline of a story from what I remember then a full script. You see this all the time with shows and movies where they change so much from the original script or plot outline. Plus, he went insane sometime in the last 20 years.

Rudimentary creatures of flesh and blood, you touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.

by nolander on Jun 2, 2010 1:44 PM PDT up reply actions

That's probably true.

I’d be more inclined to believe he really planned it out if the Star Wars universe hadn’t exploded due to books and comic books prior to the release of the prequels. They have to have the canon on lockdown because writers are all over the timeline. So you’d think someone would be like, “Yo, Leia said she remembers her mom vaguely in Jedi. Maybe we shouldn’t have Padme biting it after awkwardly calling out her children’s names as they are born.”

They say to never hit a man with a closed fist. But it is, on occasion, hilarious.

by Maddz on Jun 2, 2010 1:47 PM PDT up reply actions

books and comics are considered non-cannon

or to be more specific, exist in their own cannon aka the “extended universe”. Lucas basically said FU to the people who wrote and read the books, games, comic books etc.

Braves' Jones leaves game with sore finger

Braves’ Jones leaves game with sore finger

1 hr 26 mins ago

ATLANTA – Chipper Jones has left Atlanta’s game against Philadelphia with an injured finger.
The Braves third baseman was replaced by Omar Infante after striking out in the fourth inning. The team said he had inflammation in his right ring finger and was day to day.
The 38-year-old Jones has been plagued by injuries in recent years, though he did play 143 games last season — his most since 2003. He is off to a sluggish start this season, hitting just .240 with three homers and 21 RBIs.

Pardon me for getting on my soap box here, but baseball and sports in general are enterprising businesses, it makes no more sense to be singing the national anthem before a game than it does to sing it before a concert, a morning meeting, a white water rafting trip. I don’t know why baseball felt it HAD to add God Bless America during the seventh inning stretch, but it’s a misguided attempt to make baseball appear more “American” than other sports. It’s just such transparent bullpucky.
