It is offical...Sands to AA

it is on the transactions page for the Lookouts

by Brandon Lennox on Jun 24, 2010 2:15 PM PDT reply actions

Some of this is for bait purposes, in my opinion.

by silverwidow on Jun 24, 2010 2:23 PM PDT up reply actions

What kind of value would he even have right now

Not much I’d assume, so I don’t think so my self.

"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"

by Ivdown on Jun 24, 2010 2:33 PM PDT up reply actions

Hmm

Three things can happen:
1. He sucks at AA and loses complete value
2. He kicks ass at AA and we won’t want to trade him given our complete lack of power in the minor leagues other then flawed Russell.
3. He does okay, maybe increases his value since he didn’t sink but is that going to be enought to make part of a package.

Anyway maybe he is being showcased but if he is they are playing a dangerous game because if he does fail, they lost a chip they might have had if he went to A+ and kicked ass.

Because I’m lazy, do you know off-hand what Sands final numbers were in A ball?

It really brings a tear to your eye

To have a prospect who can mash so much. I want nothing more for the Dodgers minors than Russell and Sands to become impact MLB players. OMG I want that so much.

Not a bad AA roster

pre-season TBLA prospect rankings:

1) Withrow
2) Gordon
6) Lambo
7) A. Miller
9) Trayvon
13t) Russell
13t) Webster

by Eric Stephen on Jun 24, 2010 2:24 PM PDT up reply actions

has Lambo come off suspension yet? and if he has, is he with the Loons, or in High A for a bit?

by Tommy Blackjack on Jun 24, 2010 2:28 PM PDT up reply actions

haven’t seen anything regarding his official activation, but last night was the 50th game since his suspension started, so he should be eligible to be activated today.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 24, 2010 2:35 PM PDT up reply actions

Have to think with an outfield

of Sands/Russell/Robinson/Van Slyke/ even if Sands is playing 1st base Lambo is being demoted when he comes back.

By the way Canuck told me emphatically that Russell would not make AA this year. We disagreed.

by meercatjohn on Jun 24, 2010 2:38 PM PDT up reply actions

Think if they wanted to really send a message to Lambo

they should send him to AAA. Show him a little more of what he can expect in the majors, so if he wants it bad he’s gonna stop f-ing around.

I don't follow

Chances are Lambo would post better numbers in ABQ.

Active right now? Probably. With no Elbert or JMac in AAA its limited to Paul, Hoffmann, DeJesus and May in AAA.

In AA, there is all those guys Eric mentions above.

I believe so

certainly that has always been the case with the Dodgers.

by meercatjohn on Jun 24, 2010 3:10 PM PDT up reply actions

haven't a lot of the Dodgers on the team now

skipped AAA entirely? I remember hearing Kershaw did.

by Tommy Blackjack on Jun 24, 2010 3:11 PM PDT up reply actions

Very few

Kershaw skipped no one else
Martin only 23 games
Broxton only 11 games
Kemp 83 games
Andre 29 games

Players who hit AAA for at least 100 games
Loney, DeWitt, Paul, AJ Ellis

Ely had very few AAA games.

So Clayton is the only guy to skip but usually if they are top flight guys they don’t play a full season in AAA.

by meercatjohn on Jun 24, 2010 3:21 PM PDT up reply actions

If I remember right

Kemp was initially called up straight from AA. Either later that season or the next he was optioned to AAA for the first time, after appearing on the big club.

Has there ever been a player better than Detlef Schrempf?

by bucknellbruin on Jun 24, 2010 3:45 PM PDT up reply actions

That's true of a lot more guys then

Elbert went straight from AA, as did DeWitt (i think.)

by Michael White on Jun 24, 2010 3:46 PM PDT up reply actions

Yes

but they were emergency moves not long term moves. All of the above mentioned players only skipped AAA because we had injury issues and were not expected to stay when the player hurt came back.

Unlike Kershaw who was going to be in the rotation once he was called up.

by meercatjohn on Jun 24, 2010 3:57 PM PDT up reply actions

It seems like top prospects or even higher level prospects usually play a very short amount of time in AAA. I guess it also depends on the league.

Dunleavy wasn’t the only GM who passed on Granger. This wasn’t like passing on Caron Butler (IMO)

by Michael White on Jun 24, 2010 2:45 PM PDT up reply actions

You know that wasn't the point

the point was making a promise to a piece of shit teen age Ruskie which kept them from jumping on Granger when the idiots passed. This is not hindsite I almost blew up the old Clipper blog place during that draft.

I never expected Granger to be this good, but I did know without a doubt he’d be better then what we took a pointless gamble on. Just imagine a Sammy team with Granger instead of a dead body.

So with Sands up to AA, what does their lineup look like?

Van Slyke
Sands
Robinson
Russell
Lambo (when he gets back)

are all OFers or 1B. So would it be Van Slyke, Robinson, and Russell in the outfield then Lambo at 1B and Sands at DH?

Good to re read the old stories

and again how he feels about being on the road Isn’t it safe to say that he rarely spends a night in a hotel anymore? Hopefully Frank will let him do what ever he wants. Has anyone wondered if the first few games back home if he is a little less polished then after he gets a few home games under his belt? Sometimes I hear vintage Vin, others times not so much but I’ve never paid attention to what games that happens in.

Anyway, the biggest perk of the press box is actually hearing Vin singing before anyone else shows up. He’s always happy, or acts it anyway. And what a voice. It was great to find out that the great Vin Scully was indeed a prince of a man in person. If TBLA did nothing else for me, it did this.

by meercatjohn on Jun 24, 2010 3:41 PM PDT up reply actions

I hope they can work out a plan where Vin works just a few homestands per year (or however many he wants to work). Fans get the pleasure of hearing Vin, Vin gets to enjoy his 16 grandchildren and semi-retirement.
Now if they can only find a suitable 2nd team of broadcasters. Still waiting….

.It is Not About “Learning” More than any other hitter in the Midwest League, Russell had trouble making contact against pitchers younger and rawer than the pitchers in the California League, and he did so while being a good deal older than hitters in that league are supposed to be. That does not make a candidate for skipping leagues. And beside that he is BEHIND Van Slyke and plays the same position. Where do you think Van Slyke is going to go?

These things have a tendancy to work themselves out during the winter. At some point next summer I expect to see the outfield I outlined above playing for the Lookouts. It may not be at the beginning of the season but it will happen.

Looks like no one expected Jerry Sands to be in AA this year. Still curious to see how the Lookout lineup looks with Perez at 1st, Trayvon in CF, Russell in Rf, Van Slyke in LF, and Sands. Does he replace Perez or Van SLyke or does Trayvon find himself in AAA?

Lambo has to be headed to Inland so he make up for the time he skipped. Or could they actuall send him to AAA. He was mashing when he was suspended.

I also wonder just how many people come up to him on the street and say “nice to see you” or “how are you tonight…”.

I want to become a barber in the town where he lives, just on the off chance Hansen would one day come into my barbershop, just so I could tell him, “why don’t you have a seat over there.”

You know what will be fascinating to watch

Despite the success of the Padres, they still will probably be no better financially than they projected they would have been at this time without the success.

Which means that the same issues with payroll will exist for them but now they will not be in a position to make a deal with Gonzalez despite this being the best time to get the max value for him (1.5 years left on his deal).

I can’t see them adding to their payroll so I think we’ll watch them and see if they can hope that the local fans will start to come out and watch them this summer.

That’s what the Patrick Ewing Georgetown look is for

so few fans have good arms, I mean, for how many people is that a business requirement?

If you’ve got good arms you can get down to business way more often.

Ooh yeah

There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.

Hey now!

The Bucks just picked Larry Sanders

Quick

somebody get Mariano to Colorado

Hawpe singled to make it 2-0

he also swung at the first pitch of the at bat. It was a ball and Dice K had walked 2 previous batters on 9 pitches.

This sucks two ways

1. Its the Rockies
2. Dice-K is on my TBLA fantasy team

I wonder how many pre-printed giant cards with player names they have at NBA draft headquarters. I am rooting for someone to be drafted, followed by a chalkboard-style handwritten card on the big board.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 24, 2010 6:09 PM PDT reply actions

well you have to register for the draft right?

like we’re not going to see the Clippers T-Wolves draft a pineapple.

/changed cause I’m ragging on the Clippers too much

Gotta love it

when David Stern begins the pick by laughing and saying to someone off camera “wait until you hear this,” followed by some dude from France

by Eric Stephen on Jun 24, 2010 6:11 PM PDT reply actions

Stuart Scott just said the Oklahoma City series was “the toughest Laker playoff series this year.”

I’m going to go with a big giant “No” on that one.

(Though I do think it was the second toughest series)

by Eric Stephen on Jun 24, 2010 6:14 PM PDT reply actions

ESPN started saying that about Game three of that series

then forgot the reprogram their computers

I don't know

They blew out Oklahoma at home in Game 5 and yes, they had to win on Gasol followup shot (I think this was the one) to avoid a Game 7, but in Phoenix, Kobe had to hit some impossible shots to win Game 6 there.

Utah was the easiest since they swept them.

I am a big Ilgauskas fan!

I tend to think you can have too

many wings and small forwards. In the end you need inside play and someone who can close out games.

by bhsportsguy on Jun 24, 2010 6:18 PM PDT reply actions

I should have used that name in the pig latin game recap

by Eric Stephen on Jun 24, 2010 6:38 PM PDT up reply actions

They should also draft a guy named Brady

by Eric Stephen on Jun 24, 2010 6:26 PM PDT up reply actions

WTF?

I hate that shit! I am a Thunder fan, not a Clipper guy.

by keithc13 on Jun 24, 2010 6:34 PM PDT up reply actions

So not a fan of the Zach Lee pick?

by regfairfield on Jun 24, 2010 6:35 PM PDT up reply actions

They didn't need another point guard

And you really can have too many first round picks because of the 3-year guaranteed deals.

by bhsportsguy on Jun 24, 2010 6:35 PM PDT up reply actions

I get that

but I wanted them to go big. That is why I was pissed. They got Brackins at 21 so I guess I will relax.

But I want to start a fan club called the Aminu Acids.

I like it. . He was my 2nd choice behind

Paul George. . but it will be interesting comparing those 2 throughout their career. I hope George is the real deal, so I can brag about it out everyday on this blog lol.

by SeanMillerSavior on Jun 24, 2010 6:52 PM PDT up reply actions

I didn't know that

I would like to retract the WTF from earlier. My problem was that Westbrook and Bledsoe aren’t playing together, then they traded him, which was cool. I just wanted another big guy to help out.

I am not able to follow the draft. (meaning I don’t have 4 windows opened right now)

Thanks for the updates

by keithc13 on Jun 24, 2010 6:44 PM PDT up reply actions

Oklahoma City stole that franchise from Seattle. May they burn forever.

(Hurts particularly because the team doesn’t suck. If there was any justice in the world, they would have stolen the Clippers.)

People don't think it be like this, but it do.

Still haven’t seen the corresponding move to get Haeger on the roster. Gotta figure it’s The German to ABQ unless the DL is used on someone else yet again

Justin Miller to the DL with a skin infection from a bad tattoo job.
