Lookouts Revamp Roster for Second Half
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced a bevy of moves affecting the Chattanooga Lookouts’ roster this week. Below is a breakdown of these moves:
LHP Aaron Miller was promoted from Inland Empire (A+), where he went 2-4 with a 2.77 ERA (4th in California League) in 14 games (13 starts). He was selected in the supplemental first round (36th overall) of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft and is listed as the number two prospect in the Dodgers’ organization per Baseball America. In 74.2 innings, he surrendered 53 hits and 35 walks, while striking out 75 (5th in California League). He also led the California League in lowest batting average against (.201). In 2006, he graduated Channelview (TX) High School as the salutatorian and went on to attend Baylor University, where he played for three seasons. In 2008, he transitioned to pitcher from full-time outfielder at Baylor.
1B/OF Jerry Sands was promoted to Chattanooga from Great Lakes (A). He hit at a .333 clip (t-2nd in Midwest League) with 16 doubles, three triples, 18 homers (1st in Midwest League), 81 hits (2nd in Midwest League), and 46 RBIs for the Loons in 2010. He also led in the Midwest League in total bases (157) and slugging percentage (.646), while holding second place in on-base percentage (.432) His stellar first half for the Loons led to him being selected to play in the Midwest League All-Star Game, where he homered this past Tuesday. Sands was drafted in the 25th round out of NCAA Division II Catawba College (N.C.) and holds the school records for home runs (61), walks (132), and slugging percentage (.752). Sands was tabbed the Dodgers’ 25th best prospect by Baseball America this past preseason.
OF Andrew Lambo returns to the Lookouts’ roster after serving a 50-game suspension from Major League Baseball. Earlier in the season, the 2009 Southern League Mid-Season All-Star hit .342 with seven doubles, two triples, two homers, and 13 RBIs in 19 games. Lambo, 21, was drafted in the fourth round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft out of Newbury Park (CA) High School. He entered the 2010 season ranked seventh among prospects in the Dodgers’ organization per Baseball America.
RHP Justin Miller, 22, was promoted to Chattanooga from Great Lakes. In 16 bullpen appearances for the Loons, he went 4-0 with a 1.30 ERA. He accrued 29 strike outs against 27 hits and 14 walks over 34.2 innings. Miller was selected in sixth round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft out of Johnson County Community College (KS).
RHP Jesus Castillo was promoted to Albuquerque (AAA). In 13 starts for Chattanooga, he went 4-6 with a 2.64 ERA (9th in the Southern League).
LHP James Adkins was promoted to Albuquerque. The Tennessee native and former Tennessee Vol went 1-1 with a 4.32 ERA in 20 appearances out of the Lookouts’ bullpen. His did not surrender a single run over his last nine appearances, spanning 12.1 innings.
RHP Eric Thompson, who made one start for the Lookouts on June 19th against West Tennessee (3IP, 2 ER, 3H, 2BB, 3K), has been reassigned to Inland Empire.
C Keyter Collado was promoted to Chattanooga from Ogden (R+) and immediately placed on the disabled list. He made one start for Albuquerque this season, collecting two hits in five at-bats.
RHP Tim Sexton was reassigned to Ogden on June 19th, but was transferred back to Chattanooga’s roster on June 22nd and made a start against Birmingham on June 24th. In 18 games (eight starts) for the Lookouts this season, he is 3-6 with a 3.90 ERA.
1B/OF Dustin Yount was placed on the disabled list on June 24th. He is hitting .268 with a homer and five RBIs thus far for the Lookouts this season.
OF Scott Van Slyke was reassigned to Inland Empire. In 65 games in a Lookouts uniform, he hit .235 with seven doubles, three triples, four home runs, and 29 RBIs. Van Slyke was named the Dodgers’ 19th best prospect by Baseball America this past preseason.

Seems like he’s about to fade into oblivion with the demotion. I guess last year was a fluke.
