MiLB Dodger Report 6/25 - Sandman finds AA to his liking

AAA – Jesus Castillo's first AAA start did not go very well, giving up six earned runs, and nine hits in five innings. He was followed by Lindblom who put up another scoreless inning. James Adkins also saw his first AAA action and also had some trouble giving up two hits and one run in his one inning of work. Xavier Paul had a perfect day with three hits including his 11th home run, and a stolen base.

AA – With Sands, Lambo, Russell, and Aaron Miller all being added to the Lookout roster this is where the action is. Last night they fell 3 - 2 in Aaron Millers debut at AA. Aaron Miller pitched well enough, going six runs innings, giving up three hits, and two runs. He struck out five, and walked two. However the big story just as has been all summer was the Sandman who went slugged his 2nd home run in as many games, then followed that up with three singles. Who is this guy? Andrew Lambo was back for his first game after his 50 game pot suspension and he had one single in four at bats. Lambo played DH, Sands was at DH, with Russell, Robinson, and Herrera manning the ouffield. In this game Perez took a seat.  St. Claire pitched two perfect innings in relief.

High A –Suspended Game - Travis Denker went four for four but the 66ers still fell 4 - 3. Robert Boothe pitched two perfect innings in relief, Josh Walter took the loss. Pedro Baez is back from his rehab and predictably the two time futures all (saw that without laughing) went 0-4.

High A - Ethan Martin is not going to be following Aaron Miller to AA anytime soon. Martin took the loss 2 -1, only gave up one earned run in his five innings, walking three, striking out three. Baez and Denker each had a double to pace the anemic offense.

A –The Loons even without the Sandman pounded out 11 runs to support the fine pitching of Josh Wall. Wall struck out 10 giving him 30 strikeouts in his last 19 innings. Cavazos-Galvez paced the offense with a double/home run but he also had plenty of help from Bryan Smith who slugged a triple/home run. Maybe Smith paced the offense and Galvez helped out:) Chris Jacobs who hadn't played since April 23rd got the start at DH and hit a home run. Looks like Jacobs will be filling the shoes of Sands.

Rookie Ogden –Pericht hit his fourth home run and drove in five runs but it was not enough as a slew of Raptor pitching gave up 12 earned runs. 22 year old Casio Grider banged out three hits from the lead off spot.

Rookie Arizona – Shut out 8 - 0, no hitting, no pitching

Don’t shoot the messenger please, lol.

Also looks like we had 2 DHs in AA. Did Sands play 1B last night and Lambo DH?

I’m so glad to see all the talent stockpiling in AA now. I hope fairly soon we see E. Martin called up to AA and Webster called up to High A ball.

martin

has not warranted a call up. I would leave him in High A all year and depending on how well he finishes, start him there next year…

by npurcell on Jun 26, 2010 10:33 AM PDT up reply actions

I don’t think he has, I just want to see him the hell out of the Cal league, lol. That place is murder on his stats.

I agree. He’s not as old as Miller anyway, no sense in rushing these guys through unless its clear a promotion is warranted.

Besides, last year Martin was tag-teaming with Eovaldi when pitching. This is his first year pitching without limitations. It makes sense to give him time to adjust.

Both Martin and Evoladi are probably going to go somewhere where they can pitch in the playoffs though.

Arizona?

There’s not exactly room in AA

Great Lakes. :)

The loons just qualified for a playoff spot, remember.

by Tripon on Jun 26, 2010 11:02 AM PDT up reply actions

I would think that would be the time of the year they might just get rest, especially if there aren’t many playoff opportunities.

Kensai, I posted one of your gifs on the U.S. v. Algeria match(the game winner celebration) on 4chan, and now they think you and Jacob Burch are mods. :)

A mod?

On 4Chan? Rofl. I don’t even go there. :o

Hey Kensai, do you know how hard Pimentel throws?

by Julio Nievas on Jun 26, 2010 11:12 AM PDT up reply actions

90-92, but maybe higher. Projection, loose motion, rangy type of pitcher, so maybe that’s why the performance is better.

Not seen him this year yet. Review tape after the season/whenever it gets sent to me.

by Chad Moriyama on Jun 26, 2010 5:14 PM PDT up reply actions

I do this too, and maybe I should stop, but when you read “touches 95” or whatever, it usually does mean “he hit that velocity once or twice”. It could be the only times.

Maybe he’s throwing a lot harder this year, I dunno..

I put the same

And it really sucks because he’s been one of my favorites.

Not sure why some of you are picking Withrow (or Martin) for biggest impact on the majors this season. It’s not happening.

by silverwidow on Jun 26, 2010 2:50 PM PDT reply actions

If they get traded for a starting pitcher, they will impact the team.

by Tripon on Jun 26, 2010 3:07 PM PDT up reply actions

this is how i took it

if they trade martin or withrow as the main part for, say, Cliff Lee, then clearly they will have made the biggest impact on the ML team

Has there ever been a player better than Detlef Schrempf?

by bucknellbruin on Jun 26, 2010 8:42 PM PDT up reply actions

It said Now or Later

So either the question is stated wrong or yes, it would be Withrow or Martin.

"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"

by Ivdown on Jun 26, 2010 3:19 PM PDT up reply actions

I took it as THIS SEASON. Right now or up to this point, or later THIS season.

by CTBMikeD on Jun 26, 2010 3:22 PM PDT up reply actions

That's likely what was meant

I just think myself and a couple others took it a different way.

"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"

by Ivdown on Jun 26, 2010 3:23 PM PDT up reply actions

I re-read it

It was stated in a way in which it makes it seem like “which prospect will have the biggest impact on this team either now or in the future”. I didn’t perceive it as now in this season or later in this season.

The answer is either Ely or Jansen.

"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"

by Ivdown on Jun 26, 2010 3:23 PM PDT up reply actions

Ely is no longer a prospect (67.2 IP), so Jansen would be a logical choice.

by silverwidow on Jun 26, 2010 3:34 PM PDT up reply actions

I assumed we were going off players who have been prospects at some point in the season

If not then definitely Jansen.

"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"

by Ivdown on Jun 26, 2010 3:35 PM PDT up reply actions

You have to been something to be comeback player

Savage has had a great year pitching as a man in a boys league. Glad to see he got promoted so we can now see what he will do against players only four years younger then him instead of five.
