USA versus Ghana Game Thread

This moment was awesome.

With the first elimination game being on a Saturday, I felt a dedicated game thread on the front page was appropriate.  These past few days after the Algeria win have been fantastic, let's see if the Americans can keep going.

I love it.

It’s the last bit of sports (in terms of actually playing) that I’ve got left.

Amen

I played yesterday. Had to work at 6:30 this morning or would’ve played today.

Sometimes I feel I comment more on the commercials than the game

oh well. That No Ordinary Family thing looks like it can be decent if they stay away from spelling out every emotion, and if the powers get the family into real trouble. Also, I wish they’d give a woman an active power for once, as much as I love Kitty Pryde, it’s time for more women like Lady Deathstrike.

Sloppy

There passing and footwork is really outclassed by Ghana. They are giving up the outside too much. Although, maybe that is tactical since the US midfield is giving up too much room in general.

Look for counter-strikes by the US for scoring opportunities today.

It should be said at least that Bocanegra and for the most part DeMerit have been excellent in the WC

the problem is both communication lacking, the other guys with them (like Clark, on 2 different goals) and not being together the start of each game. But those guys have played well. Cherundolo has too. He hasn’t looked good today however.

I know very little about soccer, but it seems like it'd be more entertaining if they got rid of the offsides rule..

With that offsides rule, it makes scoring so difficult.
Its also hard to judge.

People want to see goals, not batting the back and forth for 90 minutes with no scoring.

by Joey Joe on Jun 26, 2010 1:22 PM PDT reply actions

If they did. One guy would just cherrypick the whole game.

It wouldn’t make it more fun. Somebody else would just sit with them. Alot of these offside calls are because defenses are built around that. They wouldn’t be giving up those chances if the rule was removed.

by Michael White on Jun 26, 2010 1:24 PM PDT up reply actions

As a soccer player I can tell ya there's a reason for it

(I also now play in smaller field leagues with no offsides, because it’s too small to fairly call it) But I will say that they sometimes need to be better about erring on the side of the offensive player. Which is what they’re told to do but don’t always. So they call off some good plays.
