Huge problem here, I need help.
Every game I have watched this year, we have lost. It is on TV here today.
I am considering not watching the game and listening on the radio. It sucks, but I am doing it.

Hey everyone
I write for the Yankees SB Nation blog and like to see what’s going on in the opposing teams thread when I’m not in charge of the Yankees thread. Hoping you wouldn’t mind if I comment along tonight?

What the fuck is wrong with this offense?
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
Yeah I remember that
But Manny is the only one who’s hit more than 1 homerun…shit, it feels like for the damned month.
Ethier has one homerun this month, Kemp has 1 or 2, and I honestly have no idea if Blake has hit one this month, Furcal doesn’t have one to my knowledge, Blake might have his only HR this month, and I think that’s it.

Rick Monday always describes wild pitches like they’re Martin’s fault, because Martin doesn’t move his body to block the ball.
Are they really Martin’s fault, or is Monday just spewing nonsense?
People don't think it be like this, but it do.
I would say it’s in the middle, but probably more toward Martin’s side for blame.

by Chad Moriyama on Jun 26, 2010 5:50 PM PDT up reply actions
Do you think that is on the coaching staff somewhat, on philosophy to perhaps ignore the runners?
by Eric Stephen on Jun 26, 2010 5:51 PM PDT up reply actions
What I have seen
is just pitchers who do not hold runners well and are slow to the plate.
I can’t name a single pitcher who has a good move on the staff or who holds runners well. Even lefties like Kershaw are slow to the plate.
I think Ely is pretty good though.
Just my impression. Obviously with control issues, you’re going to have more wild pitches. We have lots of that.

by Chad Moriyama on Jun 26, 2010 5:45 PM PDT up reply actions

I like how it’s idiocy, yet Martin can’t do anything on offense and honestly isn’t that good on defense.

It Teixeira doing that now?
Look at his OPS
by Chad Moriyama on Jun 26, 2010 5:49 PM PDT up reply actions
I care about Teixeira, why?
Martin has sucked shit since the 08 All-Star break. He’s been worthless with a bat. The only worth he has is because he’s a catcher so he automatically gets about 1 win more than anyone else by WAR.
Martin is 21st in wOBA for catchers this year with at least 100 at bats. Sorry, his OBP at .350 doesn’t makeup for his .333 Slugging percentage.
The last two calendar years Martin is 33rd in wOBA among catchers with at least 100 at bats.
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"

by Chad Moriyama on Jun 26, 2010 5:56 PM PDT up reply actions

It must be nice to know everything about everything. I responded to your comment about Martin and Martin alone. You obviously have nothing to say about Martin’s suckitude and can only talk about Teixeira’s career worst season when it’s obvious that it’s an outlier and Martin’s season is clearly what he can really do, and possibly his 2007 season was an outlier.
But if you just want to act condescending and make no actual argument to what i first responded to you with, cool, glad we had this talk.
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"

by Chad Moriyama on Jun 26, 2010 6:00 PM PDT up reply actions
Oh yes, you've certainly owned me with the nothing that you have just shown me here
Martin’s fielding is slightly above average, and his offense is worth less than nothing.
Glad you just “owned” me.
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
Yes, I see RAR, and I'm going off just fielding and batting
You’re just going to discount whatever I say, so have fun thinking Martin isn’t shitty.
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
I don’t even understand anymore.
You see RAR, or whatever else but you don’t care, because his wOBA isn’t in the top 10?
by Chad Moriyama on Jun 26, 2010 6:17 PM PDT up reply actions
I'm going off the fielding and batting drop downs
None of the replacement, not the positional, just batting and fielding. Maybe it’s something that you do not get.
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
You don’t get what replacement level is, now I get the problem.
We don’t have Carlos Santana at AAA.
by Chad Moriyama on Jun 26, 2010 6:25 PM PDT up reply actions
Btw, his wOBA isn't just "not in the top 10", it's not in the top 20 if you go off players with 200 at bats, which is quite a few for catchers.
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
Martin has been a DISAPPOINTMENT, but fans everywhere overstate how much he "sucks"

by Chad Moriyama on Jun 26, 2010 6:03 PM PDT up reply actions
29th in batting value of catchers with at least 200 at bats last year
Tied for 12th with about 7 others in fielding value.
Sweet, his fielding is middle of the pack for catchers with 200 at bats last year and his offense was incredibly bad.
Martin’s average or slightly above average defense does not make up for the fact that his hitting is so awfully bad. At all.
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
You’d rather have a platoon catcher over Martin then?
by Chad Moriyama on Jun 26, 2010 6:09 PM PDT up reply actions
Is it a difficult concept to understand
That catchers with 200 PA will have better numbers as a whole than those with 500 PA?
Platoon catcher are better than Kurt Suzuki too, no fucking way I take Miguel Olivo over him either.
by Chad Moriyama on Jun 26, 2010 6:11 PM PDT up reply actions
Hooray
Martin’s value is that he sucks, but he sucks over the full season. This is a hilarious argument.
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
So Martin is middle of the road in value from year to year with arguable defense around average, but your position is that he sucks? Correct?

16th of 23 who qualify for 350 at bats in 2009. Would you like me to go higher? Each time I check he’s equally as bad.
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
You are either arguing something completely different or you don’t understand why players who play more have higher value.
by Chad Moriyama on Jun 26, 2010 6:15 PM PDT up reply actions
If you play more and you put up worse numbers, no, you are not more valuable
if someone hits .280/.340/.480 in 250 at bats and someone hits .250/.350/.350 in 400 at bats, I have NO problem saying the first one is more valuable.
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
I will say this and then i'm done.
Russell Martin projects as worth 0 runs above the average player at any position by the end of 2010 with 600 PA.
A.J. Ellis projects as worth -14 runs above the average player at any position with 600 PA.
Lucas May and others project much much much worse.
This is not even including defense, since your point revolves around offense.
Hence, replacement level is almost a win and a half worse. If you want to claim that the sheer prevention of playing reserves that could cost up to 14 runs over a full season is not value, you are delusional and you don’t understand the very statistics you are using. Could he have a miracle year like Brad Ausmus? Sure. Do you want to bank on a .380 BABIP? Not really.
Because if that catcher with a .820 OPS in 250 PA has a replacement that has a .570 OPS in the other 400 PA, the guy with a .700 OPS over 550 PA (Martin) is much more valuable.

That is a really solid explanation
by Eric Stephen on Jun 26, 2010 6:40 PM PDT up reply actions
And even if we are talking about Teixeira, which it really doesn't make sense
Teixeira has a career .912 OPS to show that this year is an outlier and not his normal level of production. Even last year Tex had an MVP type season. Russell hasn’t put up good stats since the first part of 2008.

We’ve scored at least 7 runs in 2 of the last 3 games, and yet we haven’t hit a HR since Kemp took Kazmir deep on Tuesday.
Have to give MadBum credit
he’s still in there for the Giants, trailing 4-2 but he settled down okay. at 90 pitches now. Hope they can get a couple of insurance runs.
Hope we can get some more runs, too Considering what the Yanks are capable of.
