Huge problem here, I need help.

Every game I have watched this year, we have lost. It is on TV here today.

I am considering not watching the game and listening on the radio. It sucks, but I am doing it.

Watch and break the spell

you don’t want to be listening to the World Series on radio!

Has there ever been a player better than Detlef Schrempf?

Well, Scully will be doing the Dodger broadcast, so that’s not all bad. :)

Hey everyone

I write for the Yankees SB Nation blog and like to see what’s going on in the opposing teams thread when I’m not in charge of the Yankees thread. Hoping you wouldn’t mind if I comment along tonight?

The Yankees techinically have two owners

So you can have Hank Steinbrenner and we’ll keep Hal!

by Chad Moriyama on Jun 26, 2010 5:50 PM PDT up reply actions

Do you think that is on the coaching staff somewhat, on philosophy to perhaps ignore the runners?

by Eric Stephen on Jun 26, 2010 5:51 PM PDT up reply actions

What I have seen

is just pitchers who do not hold runners well and are slow to the plate.

I can’t name a single pitcher who has a good move on the staff or who holds runners well. Even lefties like Kershaw are slow to the plate.

I think Ely is pretty good though.

Just my impression. Obviously with control issues, you’re going to have more wild pitches. We have lots of that.

I care about Teixeira, why?

Martin has sucked shit since the 08 All-Star break. He’s been worthless with a bat. The only worth he has is because he’s a catcher so he automatically gets about 1 win more than anyone else by WAR.

Martin is 21st in wOBA for catchers this year with at least 100 at bats. Sorry, his OBP at .350 doesn’t makeup for his .333 Slugging percentage.

The last two calendar years Martin is 33rd in wOBA among catchers with at least 100 at bats.

It must be nice to know everything about everything. I responded to your comment about Martin and Martin alone. You obviously have nothing to say about Martin’s suckitude and can only talk about Teixeira’s career worst season when it’s obvious that it’s an outlier and Martin’s season is clearly what he can really do, and possibly his 2007 season was an outlier.

But if you just want to act condescending and make no actual argument to what i first responded to you with, cool, glad we had this talk.

If you play more and you put up worse numbers, no, you are not more valuable

if someone hits .280/.340/.480 in 250 at bats and someone hits .250/.350/.350 in 400 at bats, I have NO problem saying the first one is more valuable.

"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"

by Ivdown on Jun 26, 2010 6:22 PM PDT up reply actions

I will say this and then i'm done.

Russell Martin projects as worth 0 runs above the average player at any position by the end of 2010 with 600 PA.

A.J. Ellis projects as worth -14 runs above the average player at any position with 600 PA.

Lucas May and others project much much much worse.

This is not even including defense, since your point revolves around offense.

Hence, replacement level is almost a win and a half worse. If you want to claim that the sheer prevention of playing reserves that could cost up to 14 runs over a full season is not value, you are delusional and you don’t understand the very statistics you are using. Could he have a miracle year like Brad Ausmus? Sure. Do you want to bank on a .380 BABIP? Not really.

Because if that catcher with a .820 OPS in 250 PA has a replacement that has a .570 OPS in the other 400 PA, the guy with a .700 OPS over 550 PA (Martin) is much more valuable.

I rec'd this

That is a really solid explanation

by Eric Stephen on Jun 26, 2010 6:40 PM PDT up reply actions

And even if we are talking about Teixeira, which it really doesn't make sense

Teixeira has a career .912 OPS to show that this year is an outlier and not his normal level of production. Even last year Tex had an MVP type season. Russell hasn’t put up good stats since the first part of 2008.

Well, I’d be lying if I didn’t love seeing Broxton strikeout Jeter.

The people that go to get drunk leave before the game ends, but the actual fans stay. Yet Fox feels like they need to point to the fans leaving…

by lakersdodgersyankees4life on Jun 26, 2010 7:48 PM PDT up reply actions

Sorry I was gonna say that the fans stay and the ppl who are just there for a playdate leave.

by NotJoeTorre on Jun 26, 2010 7:49 PM PDT up reply actions

Stunning. Fox focuses on Dodger fans leaving early. That’s a call for some heart fucking.

by Alex41592 on Jun 26, 2010 7:47 PM PDT reply actions

do they hate the Dodgers? this is getting brutal

by NC Dodger on Jun 26, 2010 7:48 PM PDT up reply actions

it’s gross, I hate the east coast

by NC Dodger on Jun 26, 2010 7:50 PM PDT up reply actions

hey, Im from NY...

and a Yankee fan.. I just use my brain and like when a team builds from within not buys an ace, #2 and a 1B…

When in doubt, cue the old chestnuts lke "Dodger fans leaving early"

because we know that never happens with other teams’ fans. :-/

So, there WAS doubt? Brilliant move.

by Alex41592 on Jun 26, 2010 7:48 PM PDT up reply actions

yea

that’s sad.

But you do have to remember what is at stake for Torre… against his old team, almost needs to win the series for himself, and the best hitter in Yankee history up, could make it a 2 run game with Tex and Arod coming up…

by lakersdodgersyankees4life on Jun 26, 2010 7:50 PM PDT up reply actions

And if Sherrill comes in not only does that drop but they actually have to give back games they’ve already won.

Maybe not consistent enough to be called that

because he’s had some down months and season, but when he’s been on he’s definitely been up there. Right now he’s literally the best , in BA at least…

Interleague play has been a real nut punch (and unfairly IMO) to us, but 2 wins v. the Yankees heading back into NL West play would be pretty sweet.

we got both the Red Sox and Yanks(along with the Angels), and most teams got the fuckin Orioles…
