The Dodgers have had a nice mix of doubles by Reed Johnson, a home run by Belliard, bunts by everyone, and a pair of errant throws by Andy Pettitte, to lead 5-0 after four inning...

I haven’t thought it through all the way yet.

But what big budget AL team needs a DH next year? (None come to mind. Maybe the Mariners?)

And what OF can the Dodgers find who can hit? (I haven’t thought about it.)

One idea might be, Dodgers pay him one million in 2011, and defer another 9-ish million for a year or two. Manny gets to play in a town he likes, and the Dodgers get to conserve cash.

People don't think it be like this, but it do.

Anybody fresh. Broxton needs his fastball to be good. And his slider was flat. And his command was shit. and come on 48 pitches in one inning is just abuse.

by Tripon on Jun 27, 2010 8:42 PM PDT up reply actions

Like Troncoso. I hate the way Troncoso is pitching but when Broxton threw his first fastball at 93, Broxton just didn’t have it.

by Tripon on Jun 27, 2010 8:45 PM PDT up reply actions

Jesus. Read what you just wrote. You just don’t like what happened, so you decide to just rip the manager for his decision making, even though in your comment you pretty much say you would make the same decision.

If you were in Torres shoes and you “hate the way Troncoso is pitching” there is no way you’d pull Broxton.

Quit second guessing every decision that turns out wrong. It’s quite tiresome.

And that’s incredibly frustrating. You should be able to rely on almost anyone in the bullpen to protect a 4 run lead.

Broxton needed to do the job on 25 pitches or less

You know what he was ticked about? The frickin pitches that Broxton threw that were called balls that were so obviously strikes even Joe Morgan questioned it. Then Rivera gets a bullshit strike that was even more out of zone than Broxton’s ball calls.

Same pattern last night. Rivera gets special treatment. And he’s too good to need it.

I dont have a problem bringing in Broxton tonight. My problem is throwing him 1 1/3 yesterday up by 5 runs when you know he might be needed today. Broxton wasnt sharp tonight, which leads to him throwing a crapload of pitches and he will be out for at least the next 2 days. He probably should have been lifted sometime during that inning, but the question is for who.

And breaking it…and then cussing out the ump. Othe than that, I think the ump may have overreacted.

That was a fantastic pitch.

by Michael White on Jun 27, 2010 9:11 PM PDT up reply actions

Seriously dont know how you hit that. He throws the 4 seamer enough where you have to respect it and the 2 pitches look the same out of his hand. Its just nuts. And hes the only one that can do it consistently with that pitch

by UCLADodger32 on Jun 27, 2010 9:12 PM PDT up reply actions

You

Slam the bat, you get tossed.

by bhsportsguy on Jun 27, 2010 9:10 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

twoseamer usually moves in to a righty. Cutter away and vise versa for lefties.

by NotJoeTorre on Jun 27, 2010 9:12 PM PDT up reply actions

Cutter is basically a slider grip thats thrown with the same wrist action as a fastball.

exactly

we went through this last year with Sherrill

Has there ever been a player better than Detlef Schrempf?

by bucknellbruin on Jun 27, 2010 9:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Our bullpen was a lot better last year. troncoso, Belisario, McDonald, Broxton, and Sherrill were all quality options.

by Tripon on Jun 27, 2010 9:18 PM PDT up reply actions

…Sherrill were all quality options

this is my point though. Sherrill was fine last year, yet now we want to get rid of him and we gave up a top 3B prospect. I don’t want to do that again

Has there ever been a player better than Detlef Schrempf?

by bucknellbruin on Jun 27, 2010 9:19 PM PDT up reply actions

JMac needs to be recalled as soon as hes healthy and put in the pen. Adding Jansen, JMac and Schlicting would be a big boost in talent, and hopefully that talent will produce.

by UCLADodger32 on Jun 27, 2010 9:20 PM PDT up reply actions

Not happening (IMO)

JMac is the only remaining SP option (once he becomes healthy.)

by Michael White on Jun 27, 2010 9:22 PM PDT up reply actions

yeah i agree

can’t keep switching him to relief and then back to starting. Schlicting seems good, i just wish Joe wasn’t so damn loyal to crappy veterans.

Has there ever been a player better than Detlef Schrempf?

by bucknellbruin on Jun 27, 2010 9:23 PM PDT up reply actions

I know it wont, but we cant keep doing this with our bullpen. Broxton, Kuo and Beli cant throw every day, and overusing them now just puts us in a worse spot later in the year. Sherrill and Troncoso right now cant get anybody out and shouldnt be on the team.

by UCLADodger32 on Jun 27, 2010 9:24 PM PDT up reply actions

Unless Torre is going to be confident in Link, Shclichting or Lindblom.

by Michael White on Jun 27, 2010 9:16 PM PDT up reply actions

Sort of a logical “crossroads” point in the season. Season closing in on the halfway point, fallen to 5 games back, team has struggled recently with 2 brutal losses, and interleague is over. Time to respond.
