Lol. But seriously, Thome’s walks along with his homeruns are going to put him right into the HOF.

I think it's a peak vs. longevity type of debate.

He may have never been the ‘best’ (though for a few years there you could certainly argue it), but he was very good, for quite long. That’s usually enough to get you the nod, if you rack up the counting stats.

by Voxx on Jul 18, 2010 1:45 PM PDT up reply actions

Thome put up some very, very sick seasons

"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"

by Ivdown on Jul 18, 2010 1:48 PM PDT up reply actions

He had

2800 as a DH
4733 as a 1st

and many forget he came up as a 3rd baseman
1958 as a 3rd baseman

Plenty of games on the field to make it for me.

Over at .900 OPS wherever he batted.

Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen

by Phil Gurnee on Jul 18, 2010 1:52 PM PDT up reply actions

I've never bought the DH argument

If you r hitting stats are dominant like his, you deserve to be in regardless of how much you played the field.

And is that your argument for if he WILL make it or if you think he should make it?

"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"

by Ivdown on Jul 18, 2010 1:52 PM PDT up reply actions

A full time DH should never be in the HOF

however Thome was not a full time DH just like Molitor. That is simply my opinion.

Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen

by Phil Gurnee on Jul 18, 2010 1:55 PM PDT up reply actions

I think he should make it.

But I’m also saying that the fact that he played a good chunk of games at the DH slot means that some people will hold it against him.

Maybe it’s because I’m not dumb enough to get into a situation where I need to go somewhere for help like that, but don’t do the illegal drugs and you won’t have the problem. I have a hard time finding sympathy for people with drug problems because I would never do anything like that, because I know I shouldn’t do stuff like that.

Dodgers knew something was up with Belisario when the Pirates let him go?
When he did not report on time to start this season?
They’ve gotten what they can out of him and now he’s headed to the scrap heap?

Broxton failed this game.
Dodgers are now 40-2 when leading after 7 innings.

Thats still a great record, but I think preceding games and where the team is in the standings is what makes it hurt.
