Eric Collins is such an idiot
He doesn’t think Mcgwire has HOF numbers…unbelievable. This is disregarding any steroid talk too.
"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"
Does Jim Thome belong in the HOF
The home run numbers from guys who played during those years are difficult to compare to other eras.
To much DH for me but you know how I feel about the DH and the HOF
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
Thome also has 6,532 walks
Lol. But seriously, Thome’s walks along with his homeruns are going to put him right into the HOF.
"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"
Thome is a questionable call.
I value defense a bit more than most, but I’d say he probably is, yeah.
I think it's a peak vs. longevity type of debate.
He may have never been the ‘best’ (though for a few years there you could certainly argue it), but he was very good, for quite long. That’s usually enough to get you the nod, if you rack up the counting stats.
Thome put up some very, very sick seasons
What would be lacking for Thome to make the HOF?
"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"
He had
2800 as a DH
4733 as a 1st
and many forget he came up as a 3rd baseman
1958 as a 3rd baseman
Plenty of games on the field to make it for me.
Over at .900 OPS wherever he batted.

Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
Yes. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve to make it - merely that the fact that he played a decent chunk of games at DH
will hurt his chances with some voters.
I've never bought the DH argument
If you r hitting stats are dominant like his, you deserve to be in regardless of how much you played the field.
And is that your argument for if he WILL make it or if you think he should make it?
"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"
A full time DH should never be in the HOF
however Thome was not a full time DH just like Molitor. That is simply my opinion.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
I think he should make it.
But I’m also saying that the fact that he played a good chunk of games at the DH slot means that some people will hold it against him.

On April 17 he was hitting .331
Since then in over 230 at bats he’s got a TSL of .231/.316/.360 and has probably been the worst offensive 3rd baseman in the NL that has played over two years in the major leagues.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
I knew it was
bad, but you pull out your proof and make it all too real.
Is there any chance that we would…..nevermind, I know we wouldn’t. He’s a veteran
And that was just a guess not based on anything other then the fact those are fairly awful numbers
for a 3rd baseman but for a guy his age, they are normal.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
I remember when he signed the last contract, the general prediction on DT was that he’d be the bat off the bench by 2011. Those numbers suggest he’s moving in that direction, except I haven’t a clue who would then take over third base.

Ellis/Broxton. Mostly Broxton. Its his decision on what he throws, and he made two mistakes, one in choice and another in execution.

the mccourt drama is what it is
The future looks bleak with that crap looming over. But in the here and now this team has been really playing beneath their potential. I dont worry about the divorce because that is beyond anyones control. But the team composition now CAN be improved but when it isnt THAT makes me angry. And losses are so much worse when you consider they arent fielding the best team possible.
well, this team is very good
but in my opinion, not good enough to win the WS. The divorce has meant we havent been able to, and still dont have the funds to aquire a front line starter…so it only gets worse from here in my opinion

I cannot even belive this bullshit
Fucking Belasario should be more of the blame right now, you dumb sob. It must be so freaking hard having a crap load of money, how can you NOT have a drug problem? Oh, I know, DON’T DO THEM!
Ok, who’s next on the blame train…Broxton for sucking ass while having 2 strikes…3 of our 4 starters combining for 2 damned strikeouts…Ethier for having shit range…
"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"
I hadn’t thought about it before I saw you talking about him. Obviously he’s not the one who blew it today, but when I saw Kuo in yesterday in the 7th I wondered who would be in the 8th, and I thought, no problem, Belasario will be there…OOPS!
"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"
yeah he was the domino to fall
showing up late. When I found out it was a substance abuse problem, that really pissed me off. I get its a disease and such but the team was constructed in the off season such that he was assumed to be coming back and assumed to be effective. The fact that he coudlnt keep his shit together really is frustrating
The offense was my next blaming point
But with Martin out (lol, nevermind, Martin out probly was good news for our offense) and Manny out, things weren’t looking great.
"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"
I dont think Beli is rich. The dude has a problem that is apparently bad enough that he has to leave the team. i’ve known a lot of people with addiction, and its really hard to get through. Taking care of his life is more important than a game.
by UCLADodger32 on Jul 18, 2010 2:55 PM PDT up reply actions
Not rich, but making at least 400 k a year
Which is more than I could ever dream of.
"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"
And im guessing he is supporting more than just himself. He’s probably made $5-600,000 over the last year and a half, but after taxes, agent, and sending money home and supporting people, it really isnt all that much.
by UCLADodger32 on Jul 18, 2010 2:58 PM PDT up reply actions
Either way, poor people have drug problems too. I’m just saying he suddenly started getting a lot of money once he made the majors, and he got himself into a dumb habit that hurt him. It may not have been the money that got him into that situation, but I’m guessing it helped.
"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"
Here's the thing about that
Maybe it’s because I’m not dumb enough to get into a situation where I need to go somewhere for help like that, but don’t do the illegal drugs and you won’t have the problem. I have a hard time finding sympathy for people with drug problems because I would never do anything like that, because I know I shouldn’t do stuff like that.
There may be certain situations where it’s not his fault (though I find it hard to believe), but still.
"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"
Thats really a poor and naive way of looking at things. i’ll just leave it at that.
by UCLADodger32 on Jul 18, 2010 2:59 PM PDT up reply actions
It’s how it is. If I went and started doing coke or heroin and got addicted I wouldn’t expect one single person on earth to feel sorry for me. It’s great that he’s trying to kick the habit, but he never should have gotten himself in the situation to start.
"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"
You really have no clue. No matter what anyone feels about his situation, this outrage against him when he is trying to get his life straightened out is pathetic and juvenile. This is a freaking baseball game, and people are killing a dude because hes trying to help himself get past a problem he has.
by UCLADodger32 on Jul 18, 2010 3:05 PM PDT up reply actions
I’m not pissed at him trying to get better, I’m pissed at him being dumb and getting into this situation to begin with. My whole point is that he shouldn’t have done what he has to begin with. I’m glad he’s getting help, and I hope he gets better, I really do. Not just for him to come here and pitch. I despise drugs, I really hate them. I hope it works out so he never comes near them again.
"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"
I don't feel sorry for Belisario.
It is stupid to get addicted. You know what is worse though? Not admitting you have a problem and seeking help. Shitting on Bellisario for doing the right thing to help himself and his family just flat out wrong. The rest of his life is far more important than a baseball season.
Those hating on Belisario for seeking treatment for his addiction should take a rage dump and come back tomorrow.
"Go fuck yourself" -Eric Stephen 6-29-2010
"Oh honey, I'm chalk full of juju" -Maddz 7-15-2010
Was it confirmed that it was coke or heroin?
Cos you can have other addictions, too, like painkillers. You and I don’t know the situation or the context, but I’m willing to be money that his childhood was different from yours. What you might think of as “wrong” might just be prevalent and pedestrian to him and not have the same view.
They say to never hit a man with a closed fist. But it is, on occasion, hilarious.
I was going to point that out, as well
the bottom line is that he’s getting help and that’s what’s important. A healthy and in recovery Beli is going to be much better than whatever Belisario we have now.
They say to never hit a man with a closed fist. But it is, on occasion, hilarious.
I'm assuming it was something like coke or heroin
If it’s something like a medication, that may be a different story.

I’m sorry things had to end in such a heartbreaking fashion, but I think a certain testicular event in the post season helps cancel out a game in July. I wish you guys the best of luck the rest of this season, and hope to see you guys again in the playoffs. Take care.
Holy crap
I started watching in the 7th with the bases loaded and 2 outs…2 hours ago! How does 3 innings take this long?
"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"
Phil says Broxton should have gotten the 8-9-1 hitters for the Cards hitters in the 9th. I would say that Torre needs to know how far Broxton can go and adjust for him.
When a pitcher is gassed, you move on to the next one. Even Broxton.
He wasnt gassed. He just didnt have any location from the start. He gave up a hit and a walk in the 8th and couldnt throw his offspeed for strikes. He was still throwing really hard, and ill take my chances with that over any of the other crap we have in the pen.
by UCLADodger32 on Jul 18, 2010 2:57 PM PDT up reply actions
His control was shit from the get go. So was he gassed coming out of the bullpen?
by UCLADodger32 on Jul 18, 2010 3:00 PM PDT up reply actions
when he goes over 25 pitches, the results after that seem like not so good.
Someone could reseach that.
Maybe his fastball straghtens out (less movement) as his legs get more tired?
by 68elcamino427 on Jul 18, 2010 3:01 PM PDT up reply actions
I would have pulled him after he gave up the tie.
But then again, with the options in the bullpen…probably still a loss.
thats the other problem. who else do you put in? I’ll take a guy that throws 98 and no control over whatever we have left in the pen.

Blaming Belisario for this is foolish.
He has to do what he has to do. Broxton failed not Belisario and trying to make excuses for him seems a little to defensive.
