7/20/10 Minor League Report – Garcia & Delmonico Return to Action
AAA – Despite a late comeback in this game by Nashville against Ramon Troncoso and Cory Wade, who allowed 2 runs each, the Isotopes were able to sweat out a 9 to 7 win. Alberto Bastardo was the starter for Albuquerque and pitched 6 strong innings, allowing just 4 hits and picking up the win. Bastardo did allow 3 unearned runs, but it was the result of 3 errors by his defense in the 1st inning. Even though the Isotopes scored 9 runs in this game, they actually only accumulated 6 hits. 3 of those hits were home runs, however, as Ivan De Jesus, Russell Mitchell, and Justin Sellers all knocked the ball out of the park.
AA – The Lookouts scratched out a 3 to 2 victory over Carolina on Tuesday despite being out hit by the Mudcats 11 to 7. Dee Gordon continued his hot hitting for Chattanooga as he doubled and tripled in this game, although he was stranded on the basepaths each time. Jerry Sands contributed with his 8th homer in AA, and Andrew Lambo chipped in with an RBI. On the mound, Mario Alvarez scattered 7 hits over 4.1 innings and was lucky enough to give up just one run. A trio of relievers held down the fort for 3+ innings before Kenley Jansen came in and recorded his 8th AA save with a perfect inning. Jansen also picked up 2 more K’s in this game and now has a K per 9 of 15.6 for the season to go along with a .184 batting average against.
High A – Starter Josh Walter was pretty bad in this game as he walked 8 batters in just 3.1 innings, but the bullpen and offense were great as the 66ers won at home 8 to 5. Javier Solano and Kyle Smit were the 2 relievers in this game and did a spectacular job, combining for 5.2 innings in which they allowed only 3 total hits. Smit was lucky enough to pick up the win when Inland Empire scored 3 times in the 8th to take the lead for good. Alfredo Silverio and Travis Denker had 3 RBI’s each, and Matt Wallach went 3 for 3 with a couple of doubles. Scott Van Slyke also went 2 for 3.
A – Off day
Rookie Ogden – Even though 2010 46th round pick Bret Montgomery allowed 5 runs in the 9th, the Raptors were still able to pull out a 12 to 10 win over Missoula. Antonia Castillo got the start and wasn’t very good through 5 innings, allowing 9 hits and 5 runs, but he still picked up the win in this game. The best news of the night, however, was the Jonathan Garcia returned to the Ogden lineup after missing several games with an undisclosed injury. Garcia singled in 5 at bats and picked up an RBI. In fact, 8 of the 9 players in the Raptors lineup had at least one RBI in this game, with Casio Grider being the only one left out. Michael Pericht and Nick Akins homered in the game, and Blake Dean went 3 for 5 with a couple of doubles. Jake Lemmerman and Jessie Bosnik also chipped in with 2 hits and 2 RBI’s each.
Rookie Arizona – After falling behind in the 7th inning, the Dodgers took the lead in both the 9th and 10th innings, but also ended up allowing runs in both of those innings before finally losing in the 11th. Ralston Cash made his 2nd professional start in this game and threw 2 innings, allowing 1 hit, 1 walk, and 1 unearned run. Several relievers threw for the next 8 innings before Joel Lima finally walked in the winning run in the bottom of the 11th. The Dodgers 10 hits and 4 RBI’s were spread out among several players in this game, so there isn’t really anyone’s performance worth mentioning. However it is worth mentioning that Tony Delmonico is healing from his hand injury because he was the catcher in this game.
DSL – The Dominican Dodgers rocked the Dominican Pirates on Tuesday 11 to 2. 19 year old Leonel Beras was the starting pitcher for the Dodgers and allowed just 2 hits in 5 innings while striking out 6. The offense was led by Ronny Lugo who went 3 for 4 and collected 5 RBI’s. Jose Ramirez and Webster Rivas also contributed to the win with home runs in this game.
