7/22/10 Minor League Report – Dean is Double Trouble for Raptors
AAA – Claudio Vargas started for Albuquerque and did OK, but the Isotopes offense could only muster 5 hits and the result was a 5 to 2 loss. Vargas allowed 3 runs in 5 innings, and later in the game Josh Lindblom gave up 1 run in 2 innings of work while striking out 3. Aussie Trent Oeltjen was the only Isotope batter with an extra-base hit, and he actually had two of them as he doubled and tripled. Elian Herrera collected both RBI’s in this game and reached base 3 times.
AA – The Lookouts were up 4 to 3 after 7 innings, but the Mobile Bay Bears roared back for 4 runs in the
8th to collect the 7 to 4 win. Tim Sexton was the starting pitcher for Chattanooga and allowed 3 runs in 6 innings, but he also gave up 8 hits and struck out just 2 batters. Reliever Eric Krebs was the one who allowed most of the runs in that tough 8th inning, and then Justin Miller pitched a scoreless 9th. At the plate, Dee Gordon went 3 for 3 to raise his average to .287, and Jerry Sands hit a solo homer for the 2nd consecutive day. Jaime Pedroza also homered and has stayed hot in July after having an excellent June.
High A – Starting pitcher Will Savage had a solid night for Inland Empire on Thursday, throwing 7 innings in which he allowed just 4 hits and 1 run. Brandon Mann finished off the 66ers’ 4 to 1 win with 2 perfect innings. At the plate, shortstop Chris Gutierrez tripled and picked up 2 of the 4 RBI’s for Inland Empire. Travis Denker and Alfredo Silverio had the only other extra base hits as they both doubled. Ramon Jean went 2 for 4 and boosted his average to .313 for the season.
A – Postponed
Rookie Ogden – The Ogden offense put on an awesome display of dominance as they obliterated the Helena Brewers 18 to 2. Blake Dean was the star of the show as he crushed 4 doubles and knocked in 7 runs. Several other Raptors also had great games, including the white hot Nick Akins who homered in his 4th straight game. Shortstop Jake Lemmerman also put on a show with a 2 for 4 effort and 4 runs scored. Lemmerman is now hitting .372 for the season. Jonathan Garcia, Jessie Bosnik, Steven Dosecus, and Casio Grider all also had multi-hit games. The pitching was led by starter Greg Wilborn who threw yet another strong game. Wilborn struck out 9 through 6 innings while allowing just a single run.
Rookie Arizona – The Arizona Dodgers pitching staff put on a show on Thursday night in their 3 to 1 win, throwing 8 shutout innings of 2 hit ball before finally allowing a run in the 9th. Soon to be 20 year old Arismendy Ozoria threw the first 6 innings of the game and allowed just the 2 hits while striking out 4 and walking none. Brandon Martinez then took over for 2 innings and was perfect, striking out another 4 batters in the process. Yimi Garcia, who is normally a starter, came out of the pen for some reason and was the one to allow the run, but he did pick up the save in the end. The most exciting news on offense was the Jeff Hunt finally made his 2010 debut. He played 3rd base and picked up a hit in 2 official at bats. Enlly Morales and Beau Brett both went 2 for 5.

Who will be the first player to crack the MLB roster who was born in the 1990’s?!
Just a reminder, fans, comin' up is our "Die-hard Night" here at the stadium. Free admission to anyone who was actually alive the last time the Dodgers won a pennant.
Good question
Eovaldi, Solano, and Webster are the candidates. They are the only three not in the rookie leagues.
I’d pick Javier Solano because the relief pitcher has the easiest path and he’s already in High A.
Solano sounds like the best bet to me as well

OK, then
who would be the first position player? Someone not currently on the roster I suppose.

I think you have to go with Jonathan Garcia
believe it or not, the Dodgers don’t have any hitters who were born in 1990, except in their Dominican Summer Leauge. The do have a few hitters in the Arizona League and Pioneer League who were born in 1991, however, and Garcia is the most advanced of the bunch and has the most experience.

Sands
Now has a wOBA of .421 in 105 plate apperances. The PAs are starting to get large enough for this to be really significant. His BABIP is actually down in AA to .281 from .382 in Great Lakes. Sands has dropped his K rate in AA to 19%.
sands is as legit as you can get
this guy is top 100 prospect and creeping into top 50 territory…. minorleagueball readers are haters… they think cause of one scouting report about supposedly Horrid defense… tht hes not good… this guy is an athlete

Everything is pointing to liftoff
the 2008 draft is quite amazing in that our top ten will have several prospects who were drafted after the 10th round. You just don’t see that.

Eovaldi at 11
Webster at 18
Sands at 25
MaGill at 31
Add in Gordon getting drafted in the 4th round and being our top prospect by BA standards it was quite an amazing draft.
