Ethier's batting 2nd?
Huh.

Someone learning from their mistakes?
"If it makes sense as a baseball deal, then I’ll do it," Colletti said. "Am I going to pick up an exorbitant salary and give up a fistful of prospects? I wouldn’t do that under any condition."
That’s heartening.
They say to never hit a man with a closed fist. But it is, on occasion, hilarious.
The key word in that sentence
is “and.” Had Ned used “or,” you could possibly infer that he would not do a deal which he would use better/more prospects in order to avoid picking up salary. But by using “and,” I don’t see any change in philosophy.
Aha! Good catch. I guess I was thinking from the standpoint that he wouldn’t be so silly to give them the moon AND take on a big contract (e.g. Oswalt).
Hopefully he spends prospects on top tier guys…

So it means were not getting Oswalt..

Not sure if this has already been mentioned in another thread...
and really this isn’t really huge news, but Kyle Smit, who has had a great season so far with the 66ers, has also been promoted to AA. Eric Krebs was sent to Hi-A to make room for Smit
Not the best of starts, VP. We don't want to see Kenley Jansen just yet! ;-)

Reasons apartment living sucks
When you put off doing laundry until it reaches Defcon 4, and you want to do laundry on a Friday night before leaving out of town Saturday morning, your apartment complex closes the laundry room early for no apparent reason.
That sucks
and I totally did Defcon 4 all the time in college. :)
…and now, too. :)

Starting lineups
Tonight is the second time this year the Dodgers have faced a lineup with four switch-hitters. The other time was also against the Mets, on April 27.
The last time the Dodgers faced more than four switch-hitters was when the Mets had five (tonight’s four, plus Raul Casanova) on May 7, 2008.
The LA Dodger record for most switch-hitters faced is six, set five times: three by the 1985 Cardinals, and two by the 1993 Mets
The LA Dodger record for most switch-hitters in their own lineup is five, set August 10, 2005. The culprits:
Izturis, Bradley, Cruz, Valentin, Navarro
I'm jealous
Of course, this begs the question: what are your favorite toppings?
They say to never hit a man with a closed fist. But it is, on occasion, hilarious.
Although I love pepperoni, I’m trying to stay away from fatty meats, so veggies lately (mushrooms, olives, jalapenos, onions).
I will have to try it. Maybe a hybrid Margherita pizza or something

From an old school traditional standpoint
it is kind of shocking, on July 23, to see

well one could argue
if Dewitt makes the play. Then Beltran strikes out to start the 2nd, Davis HR, finally Reyes goes down on the play to Loney. So then its 1-0 Mets.

All this because of the the slightest of slight chances that Belliard gets a hit. And even if he hit a home run we’d still be losing. Leave the best pitcher available in.

What? Leaving your best available pitcher in. It does no good to try to score an extra run if your pen is going to give up 5 more.
"A baseball game is nothing but a great slow contraption for getting you to pay attention to the cadence of a summer day."
You are judging them from their worst possible outcome. Odds are amazingly low they give up that many
by Eric Stephen on Jul 23, 2010 9:37 PM PDT up reply actions
Lower than Belliard making a difference with two outs?
"A baseball game is nothing but a great slow contraption for getting you to pay attention to the cadence of a summer day."
Is that a serious question?
Of course the odds are lower.
by Michael White on Jul 23, 2010 9:40 PM PDT up reply actions
That’s silly. Would anybody reasonably predict the relievers would give up 5 runs?
I get what you’re saying, but suggesting that the team shouldn’t have pulled Padilla if they were going to give up 5 is a “no shit” statement.
by Michael White on Jul 23, 2010 9:38 PM PDT up reply actions
Assuming that the bullpen gives up 5 if Belliard gives the Dodgers the lead or that they even bring in the same relievers is flawed logic. Furthermore, the Dodgers were losing, regardless of what your pitching and defense does, you still need a run. It was the right call.

Well win or lose maybe what would make people feel better is
not seeing the pen be terrible… Even if they lost a close one at least you could say, we pitched well throughout, just didn’t get it done. Watching the pen meltdown makes it uglier, even if they still would’ve lost with the 1 run.
