No, because it means we’re that much closer to arguing who the real home run king is.

You just play the inning out as if the error didn't happen
Furcal on 1B
no advance on X.Paul fly ball
advance on Kemp single
advance on DeWitt single
Per the scorer, he either felt Furcal would have advanced two bases on one of the singles, likely the DeWitt one, running from 2B with two outs

Seems like assuming a lot, that Furcal would have scored from second on a shallow loop single.

I hated living up there. I lived in Rohnert Park for two years. Beyond dealing with the clueless Giants fans, you have to deal with only watching 25 Dodger games a year. And even then, of those 25 Dodger games, 18 are Jon Miller and 7 are Joe Buck and Tim McCarver.

Yeah, well nowadays I can't complain as much since I have an MLBTV sub
and get access to almost every Dodger game online. Only these Fox blackouts basically… But yeah sometimes have to watch the Giants telecast instead. Dealing with clueless Giants fans is another thing that scientists have yet to solve, however.

Rafael Furcal
this season, through 2 PA today…
leading off inning: .272/.331/.408 (136 PA)
not leading off: .379/.436/.595 (173 PA)
Should be noted he has a .414 BABIP in the non-leading off PA
on Reed Johnson.
“He’s not really close to come back, not until we send him to rehab,” Torre said. “Then we’ll be able to put a clock on him. He’s sort of staying at that level. He was moving, moving, moving, but now, he’s sort of staying in the same place for a little. It feels better, but he’s still going to have to go out and play a little bit to make sure it’s OK.”
That’s what I get for forgetting my earphones. I didn’t get a chance to listen to my tape for an exact quote, and just paraphrased in my notes pregame story.

Looking at Ethan Martin’s struggles so far in the hitter friendly California League, what are your toughts? Also, if he continues to struggle, when(if ever) would you consider moving him to 3B?

Command is the issue here. I’m not excessively worried yet…he is still quite young, equivalent of college sophomore. I wouldn’t consider a move to third base anytime soon…he’ll have to fail and fail consistently in Double-A before I do that.

The 1-2 pitch was a nasty slider down and in. When you throw 98, anything remotely close is tough to lay off of.

Andruw Jones 08: 238 PAs
Garret Anderson: 147, not counting today.

If Jansen keeps on pitching like that and Torre has him available to back up Broxton.

Why?
Either is better than Paul, and the pitcher bats two spots later now
by Eric Stephen on Jul 24, 2010 4:44 PM PDT up reply actions
late, but you asked
Cause Weaver can’t hit any worse than GA and you lose defense going from Paul to GA.
You weren’t going from Paul to GA, it was Paul to Ethier
by Eric Stephen on Jul 24, 2010 8:40 PM PDT up reply actions
hm
Ethier hit for the pitcher, then he was to be placed in either right or Left with either GA or Paul coming out of the game for him. Either the 2nd or 7th spot would then become the pitcher’s spot in the order. Ethier was put in right for Paul placing the pitcher’s spot 2nd.
I am contending that it would have been superior to take GA out of the game with either Ethier or Paul in left (in this case I won’t care whom) and putting the pitcher’s spot 7th. I know that would mean the pitcher would hit sooner, but GA is the alternative and he hits as poorly as the average pitcher anyways so what I really care about is the quality of the outfield defense.
I guess you wouldn’t be going FROM Paul to GA but the two scenarios differ because in one you have Paul in the game and in the other GA, that is what I meant.
Basically if there is ever an opportunity to take GA out of the game, and he is not, it becomes a bad decision.
