For vadodger
Bills has never made back-to-back starts with short rest in between, but he did start three days after a 2-inning relief appearance on April 8, 2008, and got bombed for 5 runs in 2 1/3 innings in Arizona.
That week was kind of screwy
Bills and Lincecum were supposed to start at Dodger Stadium earlier that week, but because of an incoming storm both teams started relief pitchers in the game. Both Bills and Timmy came in in relief, but it took Bills about a week to get his starting rhythm back.

So good to have baseball

Anyone else actively hoping the Dodgers dont acquire Maholm?
That guy does nothing for me.
I’d rather stretch out Monk for the rest of the season.
Ted Lilly has been good in the past, but he’s another guy that probably istn the difference between making the playoffs and not…so why deal for him?
I’m actively hoping they don’t get Lilly.
More agnostic on Maholm.
by Michael White on Jul 30, 2010 7:06 PM PDT up reply actions
It depends what they give for Maholm. If its not much, then its a whatever whatever move for me. If we give up anything of value, I wont be happy.

Don't you want to bring The Riot to LA?
Excluding Lakers championships, of course.
Im sorry but

So why are we still watching or caring?
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
Because I like the Dodgers.
Doesn’t mean I would make decisions which mortgage the future in a futile attempt to change the likely outcome.
by Michael White on Jul 30, 2010 7:11 PM PDT up reply actions
I don't want them to mortgage the future, either.
Don’t want them to throw in the towel, either.
Hard to find that middle ground and don’t want them to give up players in futile attempts but they’re close enough and need a little help where I don’t think adding a player or two is necessarily dumb. But sure I will be enraged if Jerry Sands is traded for Maholm.
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
I don’t see trading anybody at this point.
I get if you don’t want to sell. Take this team and see what you can do. But buying a 5th starter? I can’t rationalize that.
by Michael White on Jul 30, 2010 7:15 PM PDT up reply actions
In theory, if we get roughly a 3 WAR pitcher as 5th starter, we would improve by roughly a win over the dross we have received from the 5th starter spot, for the rest of the season.
That win could prove useful, but of course the cost matters, too.
by Eric Stephen on Jul 30, 2010 7:16 PM PDT up reply actions
I'll still watch but i stopped caring a while ago..
Then again I’m also a Rams fan.
So I’m used to watching a team in which I dont care about the result.
We are 3.5 out of the wildcard

by SeanMillerSavior on Jul 30, 2010 7:09 PM PDT up reply actions
I agree
The ~12-ish% chance of making the postseason is discouraging, but 3.5 games out, even with a few teams to jump, seems doable to me.
by Eric Stephen on Jul 30, 2010 7:11 PM PDT up reply actions
If you believe the year is over.....
Which I do…I think its a good idea to stretch out Monk and see what you got in him.
August/Sept can be a good proving ground going into 2011.
as a pitcher, or because you think Lilly might cost more? just curious
William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.
I like Maholm for the 2011 factor, but it’s not a wow deal by any means.
I could be talked into Lilly (without Theriot, of course).
I guess it all depends on whom we give up. I don’t consider anyone untouchable, but don’t want to bend over either.
by Eric Stephen on Jul 30, 2010 7:09 PM PDT up reply actions
Yeah I think either one of them is better than our current #5 starter situation
but is that worth giving up prospects for? Probably not. (Though if I watch Monk battered tonight I may be in a different mood later.)
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
I think there’s still some unknown potential of our #5 starter (McDonald, Ely, Monk) that I’d rather find out what they can do in an extended audition….rather than pay a significantly higher salary to a proven mediocrity like Maholm.
I guess I’ll take the unknown…that could be good or really really bad….vs taking the known below average.
Ted Lilly
isn’t below average. He’ll cost more but he is better than anyone on the Dodger 40-man roster who will pitch in that spot.
They should be able to conjure themselves some hits then.

It seems like Theriot would be someone the Cubs would insist be included to nab Lilly.
But maybe not, since Theriot is owed about $923k the rest of the year and if they don’t want him they can always non-tender him in the offseason.

Right, but who would go off the Dodgers roster if Theriot came to the Dodgers without any infielders going the Cubs way?
A Belliard DFA?

I don’t care if Furcal is in a slump. He’s a better player, hitter, and sexier player than Scotty Pods.

and I’d hit Pods down in the order, too. But he’s been a good leadoff hitter before, incl in the AL this year. And he isn’t as terrible as you keep saying he is. But he shouldn’t bat lead off and he shouldn’t play CF again.

It will be pointed out tomorrow on Fox that tonight
that the Giants have 3 hits with RISP and two outs.
Of course the Dodgers
were not going to play .750 against their division all year, no one has done that in the unbalanced schedule since it started.
The irritating
thing will be that the Dodgers will probably be in every game because really the Giants and Padres don’t have really good offenses, though the Giants are getting better.
We lost about 260 lbs of the slowest man in MLB
We could do with losing Rowand’s addiction to low and outside.
Sandoval isn’t last year’s model but Huff is having a career year.
And then there’s Posey.
Our starters aren’t going as deep as they should and our middle relief is , without Affeldt, bad.
Ehhh, it’s interesting.
I live in Phoenix, so if I ever want to feel better I just think about the Blanks.

would you rather spend money on a draft pick or a # 5 pitcher at the trading deadline?
What’s up with that?
by 68elcamino427 on Jul 30, 2010 9:46 PM PDT up reply actions
Hey I answered that one on DT already ;-)
I said draft pick but there are risks involved of course… And would rather not have that choice… and in some ways think they could spend that money better spread out over draft and scouting than on any one player.

Lean years? No not at all.
If you specify, “are they due to miss the playoffs this year after making the NLCS 2 years in a row” then I’d be more inclined to agree, law of averages and all. No I don’t think things are falling apart. And they have some good pieces in the farm system too.
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
Going with the idea that they’re probably not good enough to win the division this year, what personnel can they assemble next year that will be better?
People don't think it be like this, but it do.
JERRY SANDS!
Well, and they have some pitchers that are intriguing. I’d like more position players to be ready next year than there will be…

Marlins beat the Padres
Good news for the Giants.
to rub salt in my wounds, the Giants broadcast has been showing
the most obnoxious taunting fans all night as if it’s hilarious to see who can be the biggest dick.
Even with the sound down, or maybe even more so, it’s obnoxious.

Hearing Vin chew out some little kids.
Don’t know how I feel about that.
Btw I've said here many times that I think the Giants broadcast crew
is much better than most of the clowns we have to listen to. I particularly think Dave Fleming is very good. But Kruk and Kuiper are homers, nice ones, but homers nonetheless. And obviously less tolerable to my ear if Giants are winning…
