Billingsley Looks To Extend Scoreless Streak Against Giants
Chad Billingsley get the ball on short rest today, as the Dodgers take on the Giants in the second game of their series at AT&T Park. Since giving up three home runs in the first two innings on Memorial Day to Arizona, Billingsley has thrown 55 2/3 innings without allowing another home run. He also has a current streak of 15 consecutive scoreless innings.
Barry Zito gets the call for the Giants, making his fourth start against the Dodgers this season. In the previous three starts, he has given up a total of five runs in 20 2/3 innings (a 2.18 ERA), but the Dodgers have managed to win all three games.
The trade deadline will hit right before the game starts, so I'm sure news will break between now and then. The White Sox have asked about Manny Ramirez, the Dodgers are talking to the Cubs about Ted Lilly and (gulp) Ryan Theriot. Expect chaos in the next few hours.

Looking at the Padres trade, I have no clue what St. Louis did. They get a ok starting pitcher and give up a really good outfielder. They downgrade their offense and dont add much at all to their staff. Really confusing.
they <3 john jay
also they need money so they dont have to give Pujols a 50% interest in the franchise

11:35pm: The Dodgers asked the White Sox for Dayan Viciedo in exchange for Ramirez, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com on Twitter. The Manny market is heating up, according to Yahoo’s Tim Brown on Twitter. The Rays, White Sox and a mystery team are all involved. The Dodgers are considering dealing Manny, according to Brown, who explains that the Dodgers are not shopping him. The left fielder is said to be open to a trade.

Does anyone else think
that acquiring Lilly and trading away Manny would be counterproductive and misleading? They want Lilly to help for this season but at the same time are giving away their best hitter.
makes sense if they think Manny can’t play the field often enough to be productive.

If Manny can come back healthy and the Dodgers make up ground, we’ll be glad we have him. If he comes back healthy and the Dodgers still fade, he could bring more on the waiver wire. The key is whether Ned thinks he can come back healthy enough to play left field? If not, he goes today.

Ned can only take part of the blame some or most of the problem is the lack of funds available from the ownership he can only work with the tools made available for him

Like everyone else I don’t like the idea of shipping DeWitt in the Lilly trade, but we all know why it happened and until McCourt leaves or the Dodgers are sold we will continue to see moves like this……However, the Dodgers still have some control over their potential Wild Card chances:
6 against the Phils, 3, against the Cincy, 8 against the Giants and 10 against the Pods.

Prospect going to Cubs is pitcher Brett Wallach, not Walch. Deadline Day Typo
Is Brett the catcher or the pitcher??
If he’s the pitcher I’m still pissed, but not as much.
"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"
Tyler Kepner on the Trade
Don’t let Lilly’s 3-8 record fool you. He’s been steady for the Cubs, allowing no more than three earned runs in 12 of his last 15 outings. He joins a rotation with Clayton Kershaw, Vicente Padilla, Chad Billingsley and Hiroki Kuroda – a strong group of starters as the Dodgers try to make up a seven-game deficit in the N.L. West.
Second baseman Ryan Theriot has steady declined since 2008, but he’s not bad, and he has a lot more experience as an everyday player than Blake DeWitt. And we all know that experience means a lot to the Dodgers’ manager, Joe Torre.
As you are barfing
Theriot has 132 more AB’s than Dewitt in that period of time, Dewitt has 5 more doubles, 2 more triples, HR’s are the same, 11 more BB’s, and SLG is 25 points higher. Remember that Theriot plays in a far more hitter friendly ballpark!
