Dodgers Hope To Continue Fireworks In Phoenix
After a pair of blowouts, today's series finale between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks figures to be more pitcher friendly. Well, maybe outside of at-bats by Rafael Furcal, who has a streak of seven straight multi-hit games, tied for the longest streak of multi-hit games by a Dodger since Tommy Davis in 1962. Duke Snider had a streak of eight straight multi-hit games in 1959.
Chad Billingsley makes his second start since returning from the disabled list today. In his career he is 6-2 in 11 games (nine starts) in Arizona with a 3.91 ERA. In his career, he has faced off with Dan Haren twice, both in 2008. Haren beat Billingsley in July, and Billingsley returned the favor in August.
Haren got his first major league win against the Dodgers, beating Kevin Brown way back on July 19, 2003, when Haren was with the Cardinals. Haren has pitched eight innings or longer in five of his last eight starts, including pitching eight scoreless innings at Dodger Stadium in a no-decision on June 1.
Perhaps the way to decide this contest is to see how the two starting pitchers have done against one of the best players in baseball, All-Star Omar Infante:
- Infante has one hit in three at-bats against Billingsley
- Infante has six hits in 12 at-bats against Haren
Advantage Billingsley. Advantage Dodgers.

Sometimes you gotta laugh.
Omar Infante, All-Star.
It’s a roller. Hilarious.
Infante was clearly chosen for the All-Star game because he owns Haren and Haren used to pitch for Oakland and Oakland is in the American league. See: 1+1+1= Omar Infante.
We should get D-train strictly as a PH
He’s probably a better hitter than GA

I can’t argue with releasing Willis, except to wonder who they might have in their system who is better?
People don't think it be like this, but it do.
At this point
Anything is better than Willis. He’s been an absolute disaster this year

yep
Dontrelle leads the majors in walks, despite pitching 38 fewer innings than the next worst guy (Wolf)

vs the NL West this season.
They have won them all (4 sweeps, four 2-1 wins).
Throw in the 1-1 series against SD, and this current series, and the Dodgers are 22-6 vs the NL West this season.

Just got back from checking out the Braves blog.
Here are some of the goodies:
Omar Infante makes the team. Charlie Manuel….you’re not such a bad guy after all. Omar has been incredible off the bench this season and I imagine this is more of a tactical selection more than anything. I can’t imagine a bench player better than Infante and he’s the most deserving of anyone to go (link).
I’m still a bit baffled by the Omar selection
With Tulowitzki hurt, there weren’t a ton of good shortstops to choose from, and somehow, Rafael Furcal was still left off. At least Rollins didn’t get the start (link).
Shocked to see Omar on the team, but so happy for him. He doesn’t get enough
credit for how good he is, so its nice to see Manuel recognize that (link).
Posted this on the fanpost, but
As good as the Braves bench has been, it seems like Manual saw the light by selecting Infante. It seems like a long time wrong has been righted, not just Infante, but bench players in general. I’m sure Infante is not the 1st bench player to get the nod, but it seems a little strange just the same. Good for Omar, the National recognition is great (link).
So Omar isnt good enough to start for us
But he is an All Star? I love Omar and Im glad hes there but I’m not buying it. If a bench player from any other team made it, we’d be screaming bloody murder (link).
I think it’s tough to say he’s not good enough to start for us. He’s just much more valuable as a bench player. You could argue that he’s better than a handful of our starters, but he is so versatile that his services are much better put to use as a very good bench player to fill in when needed (link).
I don’t think Infante is better than some of the guys left out, but I still think this makes a lot of sense. He will give the NL team a lot of options late in the game because he can basically come in for anyone. He doesn’t have to take the place of just a shortstop or just a left-fielder. He can basically come into the game whenever Manuel thinks it’s best. Since this game could have huge implications for our team, I love that we will have someone that versatile on our bench (link).
but
Is he a better bench player then say Jamey Carrol?
Rudimentary creatures of flesh and blood, you touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.
I honestly didn’t know Infante was in the NL until today.

Thanks
Sounds like a fair and reasonable discussion.

Yeah they seem like they understand the anger of other teams.
For the most part it seems they agree he’s good but that there are probably more deserving guys than him.
I like the argument of “he could start for us, but he is a better bench player”

I suppose I shouldn't go to the Braves blog to tell them how Raffy Furcal was a 1000x more deserving
Probably asking for trouble ;-)
And then I can tell them how I hate the Tomahawk Chop.
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
OT
Some dude at the Yankees game is wearing a Diamondbacks hat. It has a white top and the old purple bill with the Teal “A”.
Seriously dude, You are in the second row at Yankee Stadium. I doubt cash is an issue. Drop $35 bucks and get a new hat.
I liked their all purp hats

This week's batter of the week will be easy
but Manny sure made a case. His week ended with him getting four hits (including a double) in four at-bats, plus a walk.
Not a bad week: 1.000/1.000/1.250
Reserves not so hot this week
the group of Belliard, Johnson, Anderson, Carroll, Paul, and Ellis.
8 for 52 on the week
.154/.241/.192
Reed Johnson is 1 for 15 with 8 strikeouts
Belliard is 0 for 10, 2 strikeouts

Wow
back to back put outs on throws to the plate.
Molina made a nice block on the first one and then Teixiera was out on a nice throw by Wise to the plate.
I also suggest framing Josh Johnson for murder in Los Angeles before his Wednesday start

I am sickened by the all-star teams
No Votto, no Liriano, no Weaver, Howard made the team undeservedly (again), Infante made the team when he’s been worse than Carroll (and Carroll had no business going), Furcal didn’t make it (though it was expected that he wouldnt)….just a pile of fail.
