Dodgers Week 13 In Review: Beating Up On The West
What a difference a week makes. A week after licking their wounds inflicted during interleague play, the Dodgers returned to the friendly confines of the National League West. They took two more series, winning five of six games, pushing their record within the division this year to an amazing 23-6. The Dodgers have played nine series of three games or more against the NL West, and they have won them all.
The Dodger win Sunday moved the club to 21-21 on the road, the first time the Dodgers have been at .500 away from Dodger Stadium all season. After 13 weeks, the club has played 81 games, exactly half its schedule, and has won 45 games.
Dodger Batter of the Week: Rafael Furcal is simply on fire, hitting a robust .538/.571/.923 for the week, collecting 14 hits in 26 at-bats. Honorable mention goes to Matt Kemp, who returned from his three games out of the starting lineup with a monster week, hitting three home runs and hitting .409/.458/.864. Manny Ramirez also deserves mention, who collected four hits in four at-bats on the week, plus a walk, before he injured his hamstring.
Dodger Pitcher of the Week: Four of the five starters were great this week, but this award has to go to Hong-Chih Kuo, who submitted a vintage performance Sunday, mowing down six hitters in his two relief innings against Arizona. Honorable mention specifically goes to Chad Billingsley, who made his first two starts since coming off the disabled list, and pitched very well in six innings in each game. In both games, he left tied, and the Dodgers won the game with a two-run home run in the eighth inning.
Week 13 Record: 5-1
38 runs scored (6.33 per game)
20 runs allowed (3.33 per game)
.764 pythagorean winning percentage
Season Record: 45-36
389 runs scored (4.80 per game)
364 runs allowed (4.49 per game)
.530 pythagorean winning percentage (43-38)

What a great way to cap a good week!
5-1 on the road after that crappy interleague sure was sweet. The best part came against SF, ESPECIALLY when I live there and got to experience one of the beat downs in person. Good good times. Funny how things can turn around.
Furcal would appear to be a lock
as the NL Player of the Week, Clint Barmes and Albert Pujols would be the other candidates.
omar infante will take the award..

He'll just come in for him off the bench.
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
Have a great week everyone
I’m off like a prom dress. Be back in a week.

That's why Nomar says the Dodgers need a frontline ace!
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
The Dodgers need a frontline ace because their 3rd starter had a bad game!
The Dodgers need Hanley Ramirez because Furcal isn’t as good!!! lol
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
I love how
3 of them are in the last 2 years.
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
By himself
Nolan Ryan struck out 16 or more in 9 or less innings, 11 times.
Randy Johnson struck out 16 or more in 9 or less innings 12 times.
The 2 single best strikeout pitchers this game has ever seen
I’m surprised it’s not more, lol.
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
Dodger starters with the most strikeouts in 9 or less innings
Koufax – 4 times
Nomo – 2 times
R. Martinez – once.
BTW
The Giants have only struck out 16 or more in a 9 inning game 3 times in their West Coast history and all took place from 2000.
I'm not sure if he meant in 2000 or since 2000
Either way, with all the pitching the Giants have had, I am surprised they hadn’t done that before 2000.
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
I just did my part to get Votto and Michael Young to the AS game
1 vote each, lol.
My voting is now done.
Why the fuck aren’t pitchers on this ballot? Liriano and Weaver deserve to go.
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
Jeff Weaver I mean
The AL is bound to get the bases loaded at some point, and who else would come in at that situation :)
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
The NL list
has Heath Bell.
Weaver is kind of a moot point, his naming would be symbolic since he is scheduled to pitch next Sunday. Though, Girardi knew that CC was also going to pitch next Sunday and he named him anyway.
Weaver has actually deserved it though, it's not some Anaheim thing
Most strikeouts in baseball means something.
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
Voting 25 times
People sometimes seem puzzled by the fact that everyone gets 25 votes. Why not just one? Is it to reward passionate fans who can be bothered to go through the motions? Maybe.
Have you noticed the checkbox that says “I would like to receive commercial e-mails from my favorite clubs (below) and MLB.com.”. Volunteering to receive spam. It’s checked by default. Every time you vote again up to your 25th time, all your other selections – who who voted for last time – are remembered by default. You can change them, but normally you wouldn’t want to, and can just vote again, as long as you fill in the new validation key, which quite properly is blank and not remembered.
But if you uncheck the spam-mail box – that is never remembered. It is always pre-checked by default. If you don’t want the spam, you have to remember to uncheck it every single time. All you have to do is forget to do so just once – and you’ll be sent all of it. The process of re-voting 25 times has been made so easy and mechanical, the simolest thing is just to vote again, with that checkbox checked.
Voting 25 times makes it 25 times more likely that you will send in your ballot with that checkbox checked. Am I too cynical for thinking that is the entire reason why you can vote 25 times?

RT @JimBowdenXMFOX LaSorda just told us that his impression is if Colletti can make a trade for a #1 SP that McCourts will approve it
WRONG - there is absolutely no chance that payroll will be increased even a $1

LaSorda’s a cheerleader, and on the company payroll. There’s no way he’d say anything else, even if it were true.
People don't think it be like this, but it do.
This is easily rec'able.
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
I believe in Tommy!
I hope he’s right. It’s all on Colletti now.
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
LOL
You think ALL of them would go? Not a chance in the world.
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
Martin or Withrow will go, no doubt. But I think Miller and Sands are somewhat safe right now.
Withrow/Gordon
E. Martin/Eovaldi
Jansen
Xavier Paul/Trayvon Robinson
Or I think we should headline with Ely.
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
Don't be hesitant to include Webster
If Seattle was rumored to like Shelby Miller, A-ball players are fair game.
I WANT Webster
I hope we can keep him, but I’m sure he’s looking very tempting right now.
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
They NEED everything, haha
But I would love to go with:
Ely
Withrow
Eovaldi
Trayvon/Paul
and a lower prospect
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
That sounds insanely steep and unrealistic.
Looking at things, I’m ok with paying a ton for Lee at this point. There’s no great NL team right now, and I think Lee would maybe guarantee a playoff spot, and a good look at the WS.
oh man
Lee, Kershaw, Billz, Kuroda, Padilla? sick sick sick! Or maybe Lee, Billz, Kershaw, Kuroda, Padilla to get the L/R mix?
Tommy has the power to reconcile Frank and Jamie
He will call Jaime bulldog and for some reason she will patch things up
I am the only one
Who doesnt want to have our system raped, even though Lee and his sick season looks pretty tempting.
We need every player who will get paid jackshit for 2-3 years and who actually are good enough to become solid MLB regulars.
The Dodgers will make a blockbuster trade for Cliff Lee
with low A prospects going to the Mariners and Lee signing a 3 year extension for $15 million due to his relief at being able to play for a contender again. Oh and he loves LA
And, as has become expected
The most recent breakout prospect shall be sent to Seattle to become a 40 HR masher, while Lee breaks down.
Putting up the winning numbers:
Manny, Fucal, Kemp, Loney, Ethier, Dewitt
Kershaw, Ely, Padilla, Billingsley
Troncoso, Kuo, Schlichting, Belisario

Dodgers mention this time around is just to help set the market to get the real players to pony up.
Really isn’t this normal?
I’ll by everyone thier favortive beverage if McCourt spends for Lee.

I assume you mean ‘spends money.’ He’d let Ned spend young players for a half season rental and hopes of WS money. And then be ‘unable’ to resign Lee.

you mean as in unable to sign a first round drat choice?

well if he's a fluke, he's been red fucking hot for over a year now.
His current production isn’t limited to the beginning of this year. It goes all the way back to when he was sent down from Low A to Odgen last year in June. Then something clicked.
He would be a prime candidate
But the Dodgers have to realize he is the top bat in this system and we need him for the future. Trade Gordon instead.
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
Exactly. At least we have DeJesus as a possible future SS. But it doesn’t matter right now with Furcal’s awesomeness.
Unless I'm late to the party...
…somebody got bad information. I’m not saying it’s bad, but it certainly isn’t correct.

If Eric, Phil, et al were smart (well, they are already smart…let’s say “greedy”), they’d auction off a bogus blog manager position to one of us a few times a season. They’d rake.
What would you use that power for?
Also, would you be afraid to use that power?
I think there may be a few “Eric Stephen’s” pulled ;)

JaMarcus Russell
is not very smart. I can’t believe it took him this long to get busted with a controlled substance.
I have a baseball strategy question
Here is the scenario. The score is 1-1. Runners on 1st and 2nd with 0 outs in the top if the 7th. The pitcher is up. He is the starter. You pinch hit for him to bunt. I, personally , don’t like the idea. I would rather have my pitcher hit if all we that was going to happen is a sac bunt. Why waste a position player in a tie game if all you are going to do is bunt? Even if the starter isn’t coming back out in the 8th, I would have him bunt. JMO.
If the PH is going to bunt then yeah it may be better to have the pitcher bunt. Unless the pitcher really sucks at laying down the bunt and your pinch hitter is an expert or more capable. Another possibility to consider is if your pinch hitter is a raffy type who could leg out a bunt for a single. Yet another point to consider is maybe you don’t want to risk your pitcher running to first and possibly getting injured. But I see your point.
I would just let the princer sac bunt
Rudimentary creatures of flesh and blood, you touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.
The Power Rankings mini summary
During his eight-game hitting streak, All-Star Rafael Furcal is 19-for-33 (.576) with 13 runs scored.
Where does ESPN say yes? Not on its NL Roster anywhere:
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/allstar10/news/story?id=5349231
FUCK
http://espn.go.com/mlb/powerrankings
For some reason the link didnt show up so please copy and paste.
No, there it is “All-Star Rafael Furcal”. But it looks like someone there goofed. Unless they have inside knowledge of Jose Reyes being scratched. On the Roster it has Reyes being a replacement player for Tulowitski, who can’t play, as backup SS for Hamley Ramirez, who’s starting SS. No mention of Furcal anywhere.
I don't think a lie has been told here, NJT. :)
But we are both smart enough to know, that if a replacement is going to be named for SS because of injury to Reyes. That player will probably be a utility player from the Pirates, Marlins, Mets, another Brave, or Wilson Valdez. :)
Eric, or anyone in the "know",
do we have any players that have All-Star bonus clauses in their contracts?
I am assuming the answer is yes, but I would like to know who and for how much if possible.
Thanks, I’ll hang up and listen.
