The Dodgers and the Angels enter their post-July 4th schedule looking up at the San Diego Padres and the Texas Rangers in their respective Western Division races. Both teams are down 3.5 games to those teams, the Dodgers do have an advantage that they only trail the Mets by a half game in the Wild Card race while the Angels trail Boston by 4 games. However, the Angels don't have much competition besides Texas in their division race while the Dodgers have the Rockies and Giants both battling with them in the division, while the Mets, Phillies, Cardinals, Reds and Braves will all be battling for playoff spots with the Dodgers.
My question is simply this, which one of these teams has the better chance of playing after the last regular season game.
Here is some more facts to consider:
Dodgers play 58 games against teams with winning records (2010), only 23 against sub .500 teams (only 16 after the ASB). 43 games against NL West, 20 against NL East, 18 against the NL Central (they play 4 games against Atlanta, 6 games against Philadelphia, 4 games against the Mets, 3 games against the Reds, 4 games against the Cardinals).
Angels play 44 out of their remaining 78 games against teams with winning records.
