How much exactly did it cost the Marlins to acquire Johnson? And then how many years developing him? As far as I can see, the Dodgers do try pretty hard to go the same route, no? Aren’t they always choosing young pitchers in the draft? How does Kershaw compare with how Johnson was at the same age?

Both came up thru the Southern League, and Johnson made it to the bigs earlier since he was a year older.

I don’t really get that vibe.

What makes you say that?

by Michael White on Jul 7, 2010 9:23 PM PDT up reply actions

2007 Dodgers had nearly the identical record/pattern as this years team has had…playing mostly 2-3 games behind 1st place. They also were playing above their expected wins during the 1st half of that season.

Also – in 2007 there was nothing out there to strengthen the team at the deadline. I dont see much improvements out there in 2010 either to be looked at by the end of this month.

by Joey Joe on Jul 7, 2010 9:25 PM PDT up reply actions

True…but Loney/Kent/Martin that year were better than their counterparts this season.

by Joey Joe on Jul 7, 2010 9:38 PM PDT up reply actions

I get a different vibe

First of all LA was in 1st place for most of the 1st half in 2007 only to slowly crumble in the 2nd half. This iteration of the Dodgers in 2010 has been battling for 1st most of the season and I think it’s going end a lot different than 2007.

re GA

kuiper on the giants’ broadcast (i normally enjoy watching them, but this brewers series has not been enjoyable to say the least) had a good rule of thumb for how a player knows he’s “done”:

when you look at the lineup and hope you are NOT on it

if GA isn’t there he should be. he is embarrassing himself out there and its ridiculous that he’s being allowed to.

I know torre gazes in the general direction of the field during the games. I don’t expect him to look at “advanced stats” like ops – can he at least get someone to read him a few box scores?

Wade and Bosh would take a pay cut.

The BSPN interview

Certainly hinted that they (Wade and Bosh) wouldn’t sign for the max…

Good luck signing that 10 year deal with the Isles, dickhead!!!

They can do it if they trade Beasley

Before he was drafted.

A lady on Dodger Talk said an local area scout actually brought him to Dodger Stadium to work out for Dodgers officials. Whatever the reason, the Dodgers must have not thought he was 1st round or supplemental material because Stanton was drafted early 2nd round by the marlins.

They drafted Chris Withrow and James Adkins in front of him. Fuck

well upshot, the bullpen is rested

Thanks Hiro. You had a rough single inning but you gutted it out for 7. Too bad we couldnt get any runs for you.

Ultimate rotation

Pick any 5 starters to form the ultimate rotation. Only caveat is that he must have at least 1 full year of MLB service. My picks (alphabetical):

Roy Halladay
Felix Hernandez
Josh Johnson
Cliff Lee
Adam Wainwright
