Maybe starting a rally thread
when LA is the leadoff hitter isn’t the best idea.

New thread's off to a good start!
I thought Martin even hit one out for a second but I was just being Steiner

Homeboy looked goofy on that wall plant
Look at that, he hit the f*cking bull! Guy gets a free steak!
Good start with Martin
Obviously GA is his totally freaking useless self. Jesus why is he still on the team?
XPaul the only LH PH on the bench tonight
should be on-deck for Kuroda

Dodgers with a little under a 3rd of the game left to tie or win this thing
Come on blue, don’t waste our time…lol
Ughhh
What a crap night :(
"You're the only woman to ever love me." "I never loved you." "I meant physically!"
Just one of those games
You hope the team can win the games they’re not playing against bad ass pitching but clearly Game 1 got derailed quickly
Johnson's pitch counts
last seven starts: 121, 115, 113, 111, 117, 118, 108.
He’s at 98 through 7 IP tonight.
The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.
Exactly
@mtwhite06 @Jim_Alexander You realize that Johnson is probably the best pitcher in the NL? Whining LAD doesn’t have someone like him is a straw man.
@Jim_Alexander Note to Frank McCourt. You’re watching an ace. Why not let your GM have the resources to get one of your own? #Dodgers

well said, senor White!

I’m not impressed with the Dodger beat writers Eric recommended today.

Eric didn't so much "recommend" them
as state that they tweet and are at DS tonight.

Come on Dodgers! Go right out and trade for Josh Johnson!
Losers!

Maybe Jim Alexander is really advocating
to pony up the bucks for Zach Lee!

Fuck that guy. Everyone wants an “ace”. They don’t grow on trees an were not gonna trade matt kemp kershaw and vin scully to get one.

That’s not really a straw man. A strawman is when you misrepresent your opponents position, and then attack the misrepresented position.
Well, yes, that's correct
Point is still valid however.
The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.
How much exactly did it cost the Marlins to acquire Johnson? And then how many years developing him? As far as I can see, the Dodgers do try pretty hard to go the same route, no? Aren’t they always choosing young pitchers in the draft? How does Kershaw compare with how Johnson was at the same age?
by berkowit28 on Jul 7, 2010 9:24 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions
Cheap starters like
Josh Johnson here tonight, Ubaldo, Kershaw, et al., skew those kinds of numbers.
The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.
It also raises the importance of developing your own starting pitching, so you arent stuck buying expensive average veteranness.
Thus
Kershaw and Billingsley. But how many good teams have their first four starters all homegrown?
The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.
Which the Dodgers are doing for the most part, right?
Kershaw, Billingsley, (sort of) Ely, coming at some point, some combination of: Withrow, Martin, Webster, Eovaldi, McDonald, Aaron Miller, Garrett Gould, this year’s picks…

I used to debate all the time with Canuck about who’d be better: Josh Johnson or Chad Billingsley.
Both came up thru the Southern League, and Johnson made it to the bigs earlier since he was a year older.
He’s really recovered from a potentially bad arm injury that caused him to miss significant time.
Um. Okay….
Making the playoffs remains goal #1.
by Michael White on Jul 7, 2010 9:19 PM PDT up reply actions
I don’t really get that vibe.
What makes you say that?
by Michael White on Jul 7, 2010 9:23 PM PDT up reply actions
2007 Dodgers had nearly the identical record/pattern as this years team has had…playing mostly 2-3 games behind 1st place. They also were playing above their expected wins during the 1st half of that season.
Also – in 2007 there was nothing out there to strengthen the team at the deadline. I dont see much improvements out there in 2010 either to be looked at by the end of this month.
Difference – the 2007 team was filled with veteran douche bags.
The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.
I get a different vibe
First of all LA was in 1st place for most of the 1st half in 2007 only to slowly crumble in the 2nd half. This iteration of the Dodgers in 2010 has been battling for 1st most of the season and I think it’s going end a lot different than 2007.
Ugh
I thought we’d get a chance to close within 2 of the Friars…
Good luck signing that 10 year deal with the Isles, dickhead!!!
Not
If Josh Johnson keeps pitching… Goddamn ace…
Good luck signing that 10 year deal with the Isles, dickhead!!!
Would anyone object to a rally Dodger bikini?

Dodgers have very rarely beaten great pitching this season
But rather they try to keep it close and win after the bad ass leaves the game. Dodgers got this one easy…lol
I bet
You would find the same thing for every team in the league
Rudimentary creatures of flesh and blood, you touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.
Most teams don't beat great pitching
That’s what makes them great.
The Dodgers do have the one W against Ubaldo (but they didn’t exactly hit him.)
by Michael White on Jul 7, 2010 9:34 PM PDT up reply actions
OT: checking the park factors at B-Ref, it sure looks like 2006, and 2007 are the outliers for Dodgers Stadium now.
At best, adding the new seats on the foul lines had no difference today in determining foul outs.
Phil is currently in line for the 10 bonus points.
But for it to hold true the Dodgers would have to do nothing this inning.
You don’t want that, right Phil?
Hey, Tatts Miller didn't suck
At least Johnson is out of the game. Núñez is no picnic though.

For all the bitching about Kemp, Casey Blake has been just as big of a slump and has his own defensive problems.
He’s also 36.
People expect it from blake?
Rudimentary creatures of flesh and blood, you touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.
Really? He’s been crediting as both the reason why the Dodgers won in 2008, healing the clubhouse, and had a career year in 2009.
Based on the projections
by TBLA, most expected some regression, I think I was the most negative because of the historical crapiness of 3rd baseman his age.
Next year will be scarier.
There’s a reason no one wanted to give a 3rd year to Casey Blake.
37yr third basemen are typically not affective.
I thought he'd make a great
1st/3rd/Utility guy by 2011, which was assuming Blake DeWitt was ready to be a starting 3rd baseman but he doesn’t hit enough to warrant that.
gameday agreed with it
but i thought it was in and relooked on the tivo and i still think it was in
by MammothDodger on Jul 7, 2010 9:43 PM PDT up reply actions
You'd think they'd put up more resistance than that
Apparently not
Good luck signing that 10 year deal with the Isles, dickhead!!!
Well, at least when you get your ass kick by an elite pitcher
it only takes 2.5 hours.
The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.
For the want of a single half-inning
17 scoreless half-innings, one with runs.
The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.
Completely OT - but Johnny Damon just got his 2,500th hit...
I dont see him as a hall of famer even if he gets to 3,000…which he likely will.
For Halfway to Christmas I want to wake up
and find a GA DFA under my tree.
But more to the point you have to tip your hat to a guy who may be the best pitcher in baseball right now at the top of his game and then move on. On to another series with more favorable matchups.
night all.

but was pretty positive it meant we’d lose the series b/c of jj

Well for three more weeks
And they still suck.
Is it a given they move Lee?
Or will they take the picks?
Good luck signing that 10 year deal with the Isles, dickhead!!!
Mariner's offense:
Milton Bradley (209)= .211/.295/.368
Casey Kotchman (201) =.209/.294/323
Jose Lopez (330) = .245/.277/.339
Chone Figgins (301)= .236/.332/.276
Wow thats bad.
Really only Bradley has significantly underperformed based on expectations.
The other 3 were never very good offensive players to begin with.
Chone Figgins
is most certainly underperforming

Forget Cliff Lee, I'll happily take Zach Lee. :-)

re GA
kuiper on the giants’ broadcast (i normally enjoy watching them, but this brewers series has not been enjoyable to say the least) had a good rule of thumb for how a player knows he’s “done”:
when you look at the lineup and hope you are NOT on it
if GA isn’t there he should be. he is embarrassing himself out there and its ridiculous that he’s being allowed to.
I know torre gazes in the general direction of the field during the games. I don’t expect him to look at “advanced stats” like ops – can he at least get someone to read him a few box scores?
by lchristmas on Jul 7, 2010 10:01 PM PDT via mobile reply actions
hell, they’ll probably trade him before then.

I don't really think he goes there
He’s gonna play second fiddle to Wade there… As much as he says it’s about winning a championship, I don’t really think it is…

Heat are already signing Bosh and Wade..
If Lebron went to Miami too…man the Lakers would have a serious challenger. That said, I just dont see him leaving Cleveland.
The Cavs can give him the most money, its home, and he doesnt have to share the spotlight with anyone.
Oklahoma City are the Lakers biggest challengers. Even if Lebron signs with the Heat.
by Julio Nievas on Jul 7, 2010 11:30 PM PDT up reply actions
Multiple sources are telling Newsday that LeBron James has decided to join Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami. The new Big Three is here.
Is Bucher the same guy
That said Lebron to Chicago was a done deal? If it does happen though, that’s fucking scary…

Before he was drafted.
A lady on Dodger Talk said an local area scout actually brought him to Dodger Stadium to work out for Dodgers officials. Whatever the reason, the Dodgers must have not thought he was 1st round or supplemental material because Stanton was drafted early 2nd round by the marlins.
well upshot, the bullpen is rested
Thanks Hiro. You had a rough single inning but you gutted it out for 7. Too bad we couldnt get any runs for you.
Ultimate rotation
Pick any 5 starters to form the ultimate rotation. Only caveat is that he must have at least 1 full year of MLB service. My picks (alphabetical):
Roy Halladay
Felix Hernandez
Josh Johnson
Cliff Lee
Adam Wainwright
