A Look At The Dodgers By Runs Scored & Allowed
Here are the Dodgers record by runs scored, relative to all of baseball:

| 1 | 5-9 | .357 | .103 |
| 2 | 6-4 | .600 | .245 |
| 3 | 4-9 | .308 | .356 |
| 4 | 9-3 | .750 | .532 |
| 5 | 5-11 | .313 | .614 |

| 7 | 6-1 | .857 | .827 |
| 8 | 3-0 | 1.000 | .911 |
| 9 | 5-1 | .833 | .914 |
| 10+ | 9-0 | 1.000 | .962 |
Here is the Dodgers record by runs allowed:
| Runs Allowed | W-L | Win % | MLB |
| 0 | 12-0 | 1.000 | 1.000 |
| 1 | 8-2 | .800 | .897 |
| 2 | 10-8 | .556 | .755 |
| 3 | 13-2 | .867 | .644 |

| 6 | 2-9 | .182 | .278 |
| 7 | 1-6 | .143 | .173 |

| 9 | 1-3 | .250 | .086 |
| 10+ | 0-11 | .000 | .038 |
A couple of notes:
- The Dodgers are 11-26 when they score three or fewer runs, while all of MLB has won roughly five of every 37 such games.
- As Humma Kavula has pointed out, the Dodgers have won roughly have as many games as the rest of the league when scoring exactly five runs.
- The Dodgers are tied with the Cardinals with the most losses (eight) when allowing exactly two runs
Yesterday I was a guest on Bloomberg Sports with Rob Shaw and Michelle Steele to discuss the Dodgers. You can watch the video here:

that’s absolutely daffy, they have a worse record when scoring five runs than scoring 2.

If they get two runs tonight, and are batting with two guys on base, I suggest not going for the 3-run homer :)

Nice analysis
So we suck when we score 5 runs, and we suck when we give up two runs. Guess we should try and give up a third run if we’ve only given up two.
They need to string together some 5-2 wins. They haven’t had any yet this year. :)

This Rob Shaw seems moronic. Pods is getting on base?? (.291 OBP). Theriot has been “fantastic”?? Lilly is an ace??
What do you know about Brandon Belt – Is that dude a legit beast that we’re going to be hating for years?
Dude has been way freaking better than Sands this year:
Sands’ MLE: .218/.289/.385
Belt’s: .272/.338/.444
Way better strike out and walk rates too.

The Dodgers should really be able to sign Billingsley to a long term deal that doesn’t reflect his value. The problem is that Ned Colletti might agree that Billingsley isn’t worth the long term deal.
Billingsley’s mainstream perception is as ignorant as it gets. He’s coming off an exceptional July, so of course, he’s been a disappointment.
Meanwhile, Lilly provides two good starts and he’s a fucking ace.
Whatever works, right?
The scary thing is
Ned might buy into that.
Have you ever tried just turning off the TV, sitting down with your children, and hitting them?

It’s not like it’s going to predict exact numbers, and it doesn’t count strike outs, but it’s a nice quick way to neutralize for park and competition.

Braves have like 7 or 8 really good prospects who only someone like Ned Colletti would trade for Casey Blake. After that, I don’t know what we could expect. Maybe some young A ball guys or something.
If the Dodgers were to trade a Casey Blake (I don’t think they necessarily would), what they would gain is not prospects, but salary relief this year and next.

Not higher on him
They are well aware Kemp is a better player. They also feel Kemp is a puzzle that needs to be solved, whereas Blake kind of is what he is.
Not every player gets managed the same way.
by Eric Stephen on Aug 12, 2010 10:25 AM PDT up reply actions
But they have CF replacements in Robinson, Paul, and Hoffmann.
But none internally for Casey Blake.
Really, they have the team rules, and they seem to have the Kemp rules, but the Kemp rules are more like treating him less than everyone else.
Might be time to cut the cord so they can stop blaming him for being talented and not being as good as they thought he is this year.
Yet you get to list Hoffmann as a replacement.
by Eric Stephen on Aug 12, 2010 10:30 AM PDT up reply actions
Among two other players.
Really, Robinson is probably the best CF replacement. But if you’re trying to fill out holes by trading a player, Kemp is easily more valuable than Blake would be.
With Blake, it will just be salary relief. With Kemp, you’re going to get back a starter or two back.
Maybe even Blake’s replacement at 3B
So that we can have more great starting pitching and score even fewer runs and have worse defense?

I don’t think your third question matters. It seems so blatantly obvious that the FO doesn’t think Paul or Hoffman are anything more than organizational depth. How many times did they keep sending Paul down so they could keep GA?
Maybe that was more a product of Torre than Ned, so that may be unfair.
Google before you Tweet. It's the new Think before you Speak.
But with such an earth shattering trade (young franchise outfielder for young ace) the club would have to adapt. They might not want to start those guys, but with money tied up in Greinke, they might have to consider it.
by Michael White on Aug 12, 2010 10:47 AM PDT up reply actions
Agreed. I don’t think they’d have a choice, but Ned may also go out and find the next GA-type washed up outfielder or trade some prized prospect to acquire someone.
I’m not really excited to see what a 2011 outfield of Ethier, Marcus Thames and Willy Taveras would put together.
Google before you Tweet. It's the new Think before you Speak.
Right now
We have two starters for next year. I would hate to trade Kemp as much as anyone, but it would be a decent trade.
The trade works, but we’d then have to pay two major league outfielders. If that’s the case, the two outfielders will be named something like Paul and Gomes.
I would love to see what Greinke, Kershaw and Billingsley would do over the course of a season and in any given playoff series, but then I look at the Giants and think about how they’ve had the Cy Young winner two straight years and a very solid starting five and have yet to make the playoffs.

This look suspiciously like my trade I proposed yesterday :P

I think it's too early to cut the cord

by Tommy Blackjack on Aug 12, 2010 10:30 AM PDT up reply actions
Thats not the point
Its not whether or not he can bounce back. I think the consensus around the league would be yes. The point is if the organization is done with him and vice/versa.
i just don't see
how the org can be done with him because of one bad season. You gotta think they’d want to give him more time. I mean, look how long they’ve stuck with Martin.

Also, while it has yet to be announced publicly, the team will be honoring SooHoo for his 25th year with the organization during pregame ceremonies on Sept. 3 so for those who have admired his work, plan to come out early that night and salute his efforts.

He is going to make soccer the number one sport in America, when he plays here. What he has been here for like two years now and people still don’t watch MLS?
I don't think
that was ever a goal captain hyperbole. But he has made soccer competitive with Hockey and at least attendance-wise, with basketball.

There’s a school of though which thinks European players are taking away chances from young americans, thus keeping our national team down
there’s a school of thought which wants MLS players to treat their MLS team as a priority and not any teams they are on loan to
those two schools got together and were a mite anry, but it’s smoothed out now

These figures are a little bit skewed; MLS teams play once or twice a week, while NBA and NHL teams sometimes play three or four times a week, which means that NBA and NHL games are still drawing more fans on a weekly basis.
From: http://avoidingthedrop.com/2010/04/14/mls-attendance-the-nba-would-kill-for/
Nickname #2
Hey captain selective quoting:
That’s not saying that MLS couldn’t draw those numbers a couple of times per week, mind you; only that, at the moment, they’re not trying to.
and
Equally impressive is how MLS attendance stacks up against the attendance of their sister leagues in Europe (according to European Football Statistics):
Bundesliga (GER): 42,790
English Premier League (ENG): 34,088
La Liga (ESP): 28,971
Serie A (ITA): 23,899
Ligue 1 (FRA): 20,119
Eredivisie (NED): 19,319
MLS (USA): 18,452
Championship (ENG): 18,113
Scottish Premier League (SCO): 15,128
Bundesliga 2 (GER): 15,056

Are you able to show attendance figures as a percentage of stadium capacity? It’s like comparing sold out laker games at 18,997 and half-full Dodger games at 28,000.
What I’m getting at is how much larger stadiums would impact attendance figures. Soccer seems like a sport that should be played in a 100,000 seat stadium, not a 14,000 seater.

The second part of that quote is also very spectulative. Also MLS has half the number of teams that the other pro sport leagues do 16 vs 30. So I would hope that their avg. attendance numbers would be better.

bundesliga is the leader in terms of attendance since the German clubs have stadiums that have been renovated for the 2006 World Cup … Therefore, these stages are very large in capacity, they are both modern and multifunctional, so you have stadiums with American shopping malls around the stadium … The atmosphere is very good, and ticket prices are cheaper than in English stadiums, stadiums therefore attract many fans and is full every game

From the Dodgers notes
After some crack research by MLB.com’s Ken Gurnick and the Dodgers’ PR staff, it has been determined that Castro is the only player in franchise history to serve three separate stints in the organization after departing and playing for another Major League team each time. Several players logged three different stints with the club, but remained in the organization. In the case of pitcher Giovanni Carrera (2001-02, 2004-05, 2006), he never made the big leagues after leaving the club in 2005 or prior to returning midway through 2006
Scooped by Gurnick? Shame

On Casey Blake and waivers
We discussed this a week ago and it pointed out that he makes something like $5.25 mil in 2011, which is manageable and decent given his versatility, but more on point, he has something like a $2mil bonus if he’s traded between July and October 1st.
This was in response to my neurotic concern of a lack of 3b talent in the system and the need perhaps of a LH 3b platoon.
I doubt he’s going anywhere, but another loss or two and we may as well get busy building the 2011-212 team…especially if we DFA Martin and keep playing small market payroll
