Hey, folks!

Very funny – I turned on the game last inning, and got to yell, “Safe!” on Theriot’s slide. Then my wife, spending time on Facebook, says that a friend of hers wrote “I guess that slide showed who I’m rooting for in a Phillies household.” Then I come on here, and start laughing about the thread title, which i showed to my wife. Very cool.

by shaqfor3 on Aug 12, 2010 6:30 PM PDT reply actions

Looking back at the Kemp home run, it was a very Manny like approach. He guessed inside fastball, opened up and got his hands through. If he had a different approach (take the ball to right, etc), there is no way he gets to that ball. I do like guessing on the first pitch and going after it if you guess right. If not, just let it go and then settle in to the ab.

No

but it should win a game it leads 9 – 2 in the 8th.

This

all I want for the rest of the season is to see good baseball being played. I didn’t particular feel like the Phillies did something to beat us in the 9th, aside from being patient with a struggling closer

You know, when I was watching MLB Tonight show early in the season, nobody believed Dodgers to be in first place, but you know what? I believe them now, this team = playoff team? Fuck that.

by LAD17 on Aug 12, 2010 7:55 PM PDT up reply actions

It hasn’t been a playoff team for a while now.

Don’t give up guys. This loss was on your BP. Sorry, you should have won this game.

by HEYJUDE on Aug 12, 2010 7:56 PM PDT up reply actions

We have averaged 2 runs a game since the all-star game.

We do not have a good hitting team. What we have is a killer bullpen, but tonight the world went bizzzaarrroooo.

Yup. And he didnt just have good control. Broxton has had elite control, and to lose it just like that? There’s just no explanation for it.

by UCLADodger32 on Aug 12, 2010 7:57 PM PDT up reply actions

I love being positive above all

and I’m trying really hard not to be reactionary, but I’m willing to accept that something may be wrong with Broxton, and he probably shouldn’t be considered our closer for awhile

by LAD17 on Aug 12, 2010 7:56 PM PDT up reply actions

this game is the image of our season … That is to say, catastrophic … Our leaders are missing … The only one not to blame tonight is Kemp (for once) … Decidedly, Broxton hate Philadelphia …

After the game, some questions need to be performed:

1 / Should Broxton remain our closer?
2 / Belisario Is he not return too soon?
3 / Why do not you use Dotel instead of Belisario?
4 / Kuo Must be the new closer?
5 / Can we finally forget about this season and think about 2011?

Turned it off at 9-2 after the top of the eighth

Saw that it was 9-6 with two and no one out in the ninth. Watched the final few batters. I don’t know if the season’s over, but 9 back in the division and 6.5 in the wild card doesn’t seem to be overcome-able with this team.

by dsm9412 on Aug 12, 2010 7:56 PM PDT reply actions

This isnt really a gut wrenching loss because the team was playing out the string anyway. But its more of a loss in which you’re just amazed, not really pissed off at this point.

by Joey Joe on Aug 12, 2010 7:57 PM PDT up reply actions

It isnt. The team was done before tonight, but this just puts the exclamation point on it.

Yup just big big big huge exclamation point.

You can blame Sherrill. Since he walked Rollins, that forced him to face another batter, to get the last out of the 8th. All of that ended up causing some time warp continuum in where Baez only faced 3 hitters and Broxton collapsed throughout the 9th.

So, yes, you can blame Sherrill. There are plenty of people here that could, easy scapegoat.

I think yanking Broxton from his closer role is a bad idea.

For the team’s sake, I hope he figures his shit out and take care of business. We need him to step up.

Keithc13

this game reminds me strangely of a final Champions League Soccer between AC Milan and Liverpool in 2005 … Exactly the same scenario … AC Milan leading 3-0 at halftime and all of a sudden Liverpool scores 3 goals in the second half in just 6 minutes … As if they were transcended by the challenge … And finally Liverpool win on penalties, as a sign of destiny …

If you can watch some videos of this game… Do it!!!!

broxton has zero command

Couldnt throw a strike for shit or get a batter out. Make him do some work in the minors and bring him back up. The season is practically over anyway.

Bellisario was getting his Spring training in.

by Cool Dudes on Aug 12, 2010 8:04 PM PDT up reply actions

I should correct myself

Fuck Broxton and Belasario, what a shit night from them. Broxton’s been shit for a solid month now, and Belasario has hurt this team (doesn’t matter the reasoning, not getting into that) by being gone for about a month, and comes back and in his second (possibly third) appearance back, big surprise, he gets into huge trouble. Luckily he had Jansen, Blake, and Sherrill (lol at him being so much better than Belasario and Broxton lately) bail him out.

by Joey Joe on Aug 12, 2010 8:03 PM PDT reply actions

Really, the worst part of this is that the Philly lineup has 2 or 3 legit major league hitters in it right now. And they just kept scoring and scoring and scoring.

Again, fuck this team.

You know what else? Fuck Broxton too. What the fuck is wrong with him? He’s had maybe 4 or 5 good appearances since the start of July. Jesus Christ.

I seriously cannot believe I came to check and see the final score and I see that we fucking lost. Fuck this.

Joe Torre might retire… and who do we get? Don F’ing Mattingly who doesn’t know how to make proper mound visit and we also have ownership that is just pure fucked up, so…. hm…

It went from great game to shitty game in two innings. Not a world series team but we may still make playoffs. The window is shrinking. Time for some beers and wait for tomorrow and the braves.
