Dodgers Week 19 In Review: Running Out Of Time
The Dodgers offense may look like it recovered, averaging four and a half runs per game, but in reality it was the same old post All-Star break Dodgers this week, who went 2-4 on the week, including their worst losses of the season, both literally (13-1 on Sunday) and figuratively (the debacle Thursday in Philadelphia). The Dodgers scored 24 runs in two of their games in Philadelphia, but also managed just three runs in the other four games of the week.
The bullpen was especially terrible, including blowing a seven-run lead with six outs to play, and Jonathan Broxton losing his job as closer. Five of the seven relievers this week allowed more than twice as many baserunners as innings pitched.
Dodger Batter of the Week: Scott Podsednik had five multi-hit games and currently has a 12-game hitting streak overall, and my general rule is "hit .500 and you get batter of the week." Fellow outfielders Matt Kemp (.833 OPS), Andre Ethier (.832 OPS), and Jay Gibbons (.917 OPS) all merit honorable mention consideration.
Dodger Pitcher of the Week: Four of the five Dodger starters had good weeks this week, but the award goes to Ted Lilly for not giving up a run in his six innings on Saturday. He has won all three starts as a Dodger.
Week 19 Record: 2-4
27 runs scored (4.50 per game)
36 runs allowed (6.00 per game)
.371 pythagorean winning percentage
Season Record: 60-58
516 runs scored (4.37 per game)
517 runs allowed (4.38 per game)
.499 pythagorean winning percentage (59-59)
Transactions:
- Monday: The Dodgers optioned Ramon Troncoso to Triple A Albuquerque, to make room for...
- Tuesday: Ronald Belisario was activated from the restricted list. Also, Garret Anderson, who was designated for assignment Sunday, was given his unconditional release
- Wednesday: The Dodgers placed Rafael Furcal on the disabled list, retroactive to August 3, with a lower back strain, and purchased the contract of Juan Castro from Triple A Albuquerque.
Game Results:
- Tuesday: Dodgers 15, Phillies 9
- Wednesday: Phillies 2, Dodgers 0
- Thursday: Phillies 10, Dodgers 9
- Friday: Braves 1, Dodgers 0
- Saturday: Dodgers 2, Braves 1
- Sunday: Braves 13, Dodgers 1
Upcoming Week: The Dodgers finish their series in Atlanta Monday, then fly home to face the Rockies and Reds, continuing their trend of playing teams ahead of them in the wild card standings.

Was watching Orel’s Game 7 clincher on DVD yesterday. It was a struggle getting that last out, including a false start celebration. But it was sweet when it finally happened.
One thing that stood out was the ump’s strike zone. There was a pitch to Greg Jefferies in the 9th that was a foot outside but called a strike.
Greg Jeffries
Ha! I thought he was going to be great. He was one of the guys that I always had 25 of his rookie card for some reason. Probably bc he sucked and that is what I got!
Chris Johnson 3B of the Astros is on fire

Pretty good production from a rookie. Especially at a corner IF spot.
Not in person
but yeah, I’ve seen him on various shows. I have to hand it to him. He has maximized his skill to it’s full potential. Good for him.

Not in person. ha!
Pretty good stuff. A friend just sent it to me. He sent the one of the the Game winning HR’s in the World Series too.
Good stuff.
He is pretty amazing, in that he does so many different impressions.

I’d like to see him do my swing.
Tim and Ted used to tell me “they’ve seen better swings in a playground!”

Ah, Batting Stance Guy
I love his Jeter impression. Needs more bend in the wrist, though.

He has been around for a couple of years, right?
I remember doing that same stuff as a small kid, probably 8 or 9 years old. I stand in the living room with one of those small wooden bats they use to give away at Dodger Stadium back in the days before you had to worry about the crowd using them as a projectile or a weapon to use on each other in the parking lot after the game. I’d go through a series of a couple dozen batting stances and see how many my dad could name. The obvious ones like Pete Rose, Joe Morgan, Mickey Rivers and Bobby Bonds were easy. I enjoyed doing the ones a little harder like Ron Cey or Steve Garvey. If only there was YouTube back in those days – maybe I would’ve gone into a different line of work. :)

Hey guys
Out of the house all day, finally saw the nightmare we had today. All my focus now is the 9 p.m. deadline tomorrow…
Hey Eric, what do you think are our chances of signing Lee?
My guess is a toss up from the reports. 50-50, which was better than last week.
ditto to that
I’m glad I didnt waste my time on today’s game, the beach was lovely
I do hope we pull this out of left field though, it would be nice to have something to lift the spirits, and have a potential stud in the system
William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.
If we do get him (I’m feeling extra optimistic about it), he should NOT be babied in the system. I want Lee fronting the Loons rotation next year and fast tracked to AA no later than 2012.
I’ve seen his scouting video again, man that changeup is killer.
by Julio Nievas on Aug 15, 2010 9:11 PM PDT up reply actions
Why would he leave a potential starting job at LSU. Even if he’s get drafted in the 2nd round, he stands to make millions more than the bonus he receives as a Dodger.
He's not starting. He didn't even get many reps at the scrimmage today.
Looks like he’s going to get red-shirted, and that only increases our chances.
by Julio Nievas on Aug 15, 2010 9:17 PM PDT up reply actions
He has 4 more bites at the apple and 1 and 2 guys at LSU are a junior and senior. If he can wait, he’ll get his chance.
And I don’t want him if it means he’s splitting time between pitching and football.
Update
Brian Lazarre (LSU insider) just said this:
According to people close to the LSU baseball program, things look pretty good for the Tigers holding on to Gausman. The same cannot be said about Lee at this time. It looks like the Dodgers are going all out to sign him.

So someone would get in trouble if they posted something say from ESPN insider?
"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"
Well
They’ve made it clear for people not to do that or else I’ll get “in trouble”… Whatever that means.

Most likely that just means imprisoned for 30 years
So basically a slap on the wrist.

Did you read the yahoo article?
He looks to be 3rd in line and have to redshirt this year. He may not be the starter till 2012.

One more word on what's offensive
It’s Phil’s and Eric’s blog, so they get to say what goes. That said, I don’t understand why someone would insist on using any word or phrase after being told, politely, that some of our regular posters were offended by that word or phrase. I’m sure nobody meant to offend. And maybe those who find it offensive are a minority. In my opinion, don’t do it anyway.
I certianly hope I’m not being hypocrticial here. If I’ve done in the past what I’m encouraging others not to do — repeat a behavior after being asked to stop — I apologize.

Good news for #Dodgers fans. They’re getting closer to a deal with athletic 11th-rd OF Joc Pederson for 2nd-rd money. #mlbdraft

but hopefully it has nothing to do with not being able to sign Lee.

Surprised he went this far down
I guess the USC commitment was the red flag, but he’s worth the risk of grabbing him in the 5th round. Lefty, great swing, 8 HRs in 31 games (if you discount the first half, it’s 8 HRs in the last 15 games), really athletic (so you know he’ll get more power as the years come by).
Top signee.

Anybody know who's doing
the negotiations? Is it Logan White, or his scouts that are working with the draftees? How technical do they need to get?
I almost certain it’s White. He’s the guy who offered LaRoche $1M and 1 cent.

I agree
Far as I know Logan does all the negotiating.

In between movies
Scott Pilgrim was bizzarely insane and funny. I enjoyed the absurdity of it because I had no idea about the characters beforehand.
But not as insane as seeing Wyclef gush about a Ritz commercial, then watching said Ritz commercial. Apparently Rutz takes Wyclef "to a place and a time.

You realize you’re supposed to pay two separate admissions, right? I’m gonna call the cops on you. Officer, he’s the guy who won’t stop telling eveyone that we’re going to sign three free agent pitchers this offseason. He says Ely will be the 6th starter. Get him now!
Haha
I did pay for two tickets!
Because there was too much time in between movies :)

The last time I saw a movie, I bought the ticket at the booth and walked in with nobody taking my ticket. I told the girl at the popcorn stand next time I wasn’t even going to buy a ticket. She said, “I won’t tell on you.”

More from Lazarre
Repotedly, the Dodgers would let him play football. But, I’ve heard that Lee wants more money to do that.
More money to play football?
Then give him less money to only play baseball!

For the commenters below
I’m assuming he wants more money if he can’t play football.
"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"
I have a question
Seems like another issue about all this (Lee) is the money. Is it true that the Selig has to approve of us offering more than slot money and if so, how many of those approvals go through?
