MiLB Dodger Recap 8/24 - Rubby Rubs Another One

AAA – Rain shortened first game was won 6 - 5 in the bottom of the 7th on a single by Estaban Lopez. DeJesus had two hits to give him nine hits in his last three games. Russ Mitchell had four hits and scored the winning run. The White Sox duo of Ely/Link have had better nights.

AAA - Game Two -  Etherton was pounded, and Troncoso didn't offer much relief help himself as the Isotopes lost the nightcap 8 - 3. DeJesus multi-hit streak came to an end.

AA  – Rubby hurled another gem, going seven innings, one earned run. 10 Ground outs versus just 3 fly outs. He's now made six AA starts and has yet to give up more then two earned runs in any game. Trayvon Robinson broke out of his mini August slump with two singles, two walks, drove in three runs, and stole his 36th base. Kyle Russell also got on base four times with two singles and two walks, giving him a perfect night at the plate. Dee Gordon made his 36th error as he continues his drive toward a fairly unique 40/40/20 season.

High A – Inland Empire was crushed 9 - 4.

A – The Loons win 9 - 3 behind the great pitching of Greg Wilborn, who bounced back nicely from his last appearance. Wilborn threw six shutout innings allowing only five base runners. The offense was fueled by Ynoa (2 hits, 36th stolen base), Smith (2 doubles, 3 rbi's), Galvez (3 hits), and Ortiz (7th home run).

In other MWL news, Smith and Glavez were named to the MWL Post Season All-Star team. I'm not sure how they can explain the exclusion of Sands since they named Trout to the team (including MVP) when he was also promoted in June.

Rookie Ogden – The Raptors scored 13 runs without the benefit of a home run. They knocked out 15 hits, including three doubles and triple. Everyone hit the ball except Garcia.

Rookie Arizona – Dang, Eovaldi made his 2nd rehab start and totally Ethan Martin'd it with four walks in two innings. They lost 11 - 2.

I really want to see Rubby’s fastball on video. It’s amazing how many ground balls he’s getting.

Who do you guys think get the call up on 9/1?

Not too many, I’d imagine. Ellis will be back. Paul would’ve been if he wasn’t injured. Do Robinson, DeJesus or Mitchell have a chance?

Not too many roster pitchers I see deserving a chance to come up, but I’d assume Ely will be back anyway… Leach? Guerra? Meh.

Never mind, Mitchell not 40 man roster... not sure why I thought that

Ely
Link
Lindblom
Mitchell – even though he’s not on the 40 man that might not be a problem in seven days
DeJesus
Trayon for speed purposes
Ellis

Seems like to many, but maybe we will have some openings.

by meercatjohn on Aug 25, 2010 8:43 AM PDT up reply actions

Lindblom isn’t on the 40 man either.

can russ mitchell become our casey mcgahee

or is russ gonna have to follow the mcghee route and get claimed by another team who will actually give him a chance

by matthewmafa on Aug 25, 2010 12:34 AM PDT reply actions

simply depends on if we give him a shot

How does he do against RHP? If he does well, we could at least see if he could be a platoon partner with Casey next year…

against RHP

.287/.329/.461/.790

according to the milb site

"Heroes get remembered, but Legends never die."

by Tommy Blackjack on Aug 25, 2010 8:21 AM PDT up reply actions

His future is pounding LHP

so he’s is not a viable option for a Blake platoon. He could however help out with Loney and maybe even Andre. Not sure if anyone has noticed, but I’ve said several times that Mitchell is now playing RF.

by meercatjohn on Aug 25, 2010 8:40 AM PDT up reply actions

Mitchell should be on the big league club next year. He should at least be given a shot

at 3b. It’s Blake’s final year, he’s old and he sucks. the only thing going for him is his awesome beard. dodger’s have a huge void at 3b and they need to see if mitchell can at least be a temporary fill for it.

by npurcell on Aug 25, 2010 8:52 AM PDT up reply actions

I dont' harbor any hope that Mitchell

can be a full time solution at any position but I do think he can part of a potent platoon.

by meercatjohn on Aug 25, 2010 9:13 AM PDT up reply actions

yeah

I’ve been saying for awhile now he can be a Belliard type guy. Maybe even better as he can play some OF

"Heroes get remembered, but Legends never die."

Man

I hate it when a team goes bonkers on offense except for the top prospect on the team.

You’re damn right I said bonkers.

by Julio Nievas on Aug 25, 2010 12:58 AM PDT reply actions

I know

I saw the score and thought, main what did Garcia do, and then nothing. Momentarily deflating.

sands K%

is dropping to 22% now. and Michael’s favorite stat, his wOBA is at .386 at AA.

by npurcell on Aug 25, 2010 8:57 AM PDT reply actions

rubby

AA FIP 3.74 now with a 64% GB%. Obviously, the K/bb ratios are a little subpar but everything else is extremely encouraging for Rubby.

the guy is so inexperienced... i am not worried aabout the Ks at all yet

rememeber, hes only pitched 70 innings before this year everyone and hes in AA!!!!!

withrow at least pitched 115 innings before he got promoted to AA…
