Notes on a Dodger Scorecard

Borrowing a style from the late great Alan Malamud, here are some thoughts as we wind down into the final month of the 2010 Dodger season.

Who knew that Ronald Belisario's visa trouble would be emblematic of what was wrong with the Dodgers this year...

If the Dodgers were truly thinking of sending Manny on waivers, they probably should have gone after someone like Ludwick instead of Pods. However, I do believe they hoped Manny's first game back was when August was back in single digits not just last week...

Given the financial parameters that were probably placed on baseball operations this season, I think the team did a decent job with their off-season moves, I would criticize their re-signing of Belliard since it basically meant he was destined to not get as much work as he needed to stay sharp...

Jamey Carroll has way too many plate appearances which also means that Furcal is again not playing enough...

Who would have thought that for the most part, the starting pitching really has not been issue since the first month...

Matt Kemp should get new representation, I wonder if he knows anyone who has experience with managers/agents...

Furcal's back, Manny's calf and Andre's pinky had more impact on the season than learning about Russian physics, Dodger Stadium rental agreements and your 2016 candidate for political office, Jamie McCourt...

While some still read the LA Times, give me Jon Weisman, Eric Stephen, Phil's half -full glass on prospects and Dave, Mike and Brandon pieces in TBLA for my Dodger information anyday of the week...

I don't think the reaction to the Dodgers getting Zach Lee to leave LSU was strong enough by the media, NO ONE thought they would sign him after he was drafted...

Good young talent in Great Falls and Rookie leagues but hopefully next season, the minor leaguer with the biggest impact on the MLB team won't be a recently converted catcher into a relief pitcher...

Joe Torre was more Del Harris than Phil Jackson...

Larry Bowa is trying to get Matt Kemp to become Scott Rolen...

Matt Kemp is making me wish for Mike Marshall production

I miss old time DT commenters Bluebleeder, Greg Brock, Branch Rickey and LAT...

You are dreaming if you think Kuroda, Manny and Padilla could fetch more than a bucket of used baseballs if they were traded by the 31st...

I wonder besides Phil, Eric Stephen, David Young, MLeadman and Underdog, anyone else will recognize this homage to the best Page 2 columnist in LAT Sports section history, Alan Malamud...
