Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

8/25/10 Minor League Report – Cloudy with a Chance of Homers in Albuquerque

AAA – Home runs were raining down on New Mexico on Wednesday as the Isotopes blasted 5 bombs out of the park.  Jamie Hoffmann, Justin Sellers, and Ivan De Jesus all homered once, and De Jesus actually ended up with 4 RBI’s as he also had a big double.  Russell Mitchell upped the ante, however, as he went yard twice, and he now has 21 dingers on the year.  When all the dust settled, Albuquerque walked away with an 11 to 3 victory over Oklahoma City.  Starter Charlie Haeger was wild, but ended up allowing just 2 hits in 6 innings and picked up the win.  Justin Miller and Cory Wade finished the game with 3 innings of shutout relief.

AA – I have no idea why the Lookouts played such an early game on Wednesday, but apparently that’s when Withrow likes to pitch because he had his best performance in a long time.  Either that or the Mobile players weren’t fully awake yet.  Withrow scattered just 5 hits over 7 innings, did not walk a batter, and gave up just 1 run.  He also struck out 5, but unfortunately his performance wasn’t good enough for him to pick up the win since the Lookouts’ offense didn’t score until late in the game.  Hopefully this is a step in the right direction for our young prospect.  Javy Guerra allowed an unearned run in relief, but was able to lower his AA ERA to 1.99.  Jon Huber picked up the save with a scoreless 9th.  Chattanooga’s late scoring came on a double by Eduardo Perez in the 7th, a single by Dee Gordon in the 8th, and finally a walk-off single by Kyle Russell in the 9th.  The game winning rally was started by Jerry Sands, who had singled to start the inning.

High A – Starter Bobby Blevins, who has moved around quite a bit this year, was pretty solid for the 66ers as he allowed just 3 runs in 6 innings.  His effort was good enough for a 6 to 4 Inland Empire victory as the bullpen was able to hold the High Desert Mavericks to just 1 run over the final 3 frames.  Despite the 6 runs, nobody really stood out on offense.  I guess the best night belonged to Steven Caseres who went 2 for 4 with a double.

A – The Loons offense provided starter Josh Wall with plenty of support on Wednesday, which allowed Wall to pick up the win despite not having his best stuff.  Josh allowed 6 hits, 5 walks, and 4 runs while striking out 3 in 5.2 innings, and then Steve Smith and Luis Vasquez closed out the game by allowing just 1 hit.  Three different Loons homered in this game, including Brian Cavazos-Galvez’s 14th of the year.  Jamie Ortiz and big Chris Jacobs were the other hitters with big flys.

Rookie Ogden – While he wasn’t dominate by any stretch of the imagination, Garrett Gould had a very solid outing for the Raptors.  Gould allowed just one earned run on 5 hits in 6 innings, and he didn’t walk a batter.  That’s good news for the young starter.  More good news is that Logan Bawcom was perfect in getting the last 5 outs of the game.  The bad news is that in between Gould and Bawcom, Carlos Frias came out of the bullpen and allowed 4 runs in one third of an inning which saddled Ogden with the loss.  The Raptors offense was basically missing in action today as they only recorded 4 hits in the game.  Even Nick Akins was held hitless.

Rookie Arizona – Wow, what a day for the Arizona Dodgers pitching staff.  Ralston Cash started it off for the Dodgers with 5 shutout innings in which he allowed just 2 hits while striking out 7.  As we all like to say, he was Money.  Beyker Fructuoso then followed up Cash with a performance that was arguably even better as he struck out 5 in 3 perfect innings.  Jimmy Marshall finished off the combined gem with a perfect 9th.  The Dodgers offense was led by Enlly Morales’ 3 RBI’s.  Chance Gilmore also chipped in with a double and triple.

Pitching very well. Hasn’t allowed more than three walks in a game and zero home runs.

Awesome.
