Who will be going where in our minor leagues to start 2011?

Here are my guesses on most of our notable prospects on where they might start the 2011 season

Star-divide

Without having any real knowledge on how this would work (more of the thinking of our management), I would guess that:

Trayvon moves AAA
Sands plays 1B in AA
Russell stays in AA
Cavazos-Galvez moves to AA
Van Slyke goes back to AA
Blake Smith goes to High A
Mario Songco goes to High A
Nick Akins goes to Low A
Leon Landry goes to High A
Lemmerman goes to Low A
Baldwin goes to Ogden
Jonathan Garcia goes to Low A (might be too aggressive with him, I believe he is in Arizona now, so possibly Ogden as well)
Aaron Miller goes to AA
Allen Webster goes to AA
Maggill either stays in Lo A or goes to High A, but because of how Hi A pitchers have done I think he stays in Lo A until he is ready to go to AA
Ethan Martin stays in High A
Eovaldi stays in High A

Rubby stays in AA

Lee and Gould may start in Lo A

I realized that Webster going to AA may be a bit of a stretch, but I'm going to stand by that one for now as a longshot, but that it does happen.

Any opinions on where these players and any others I forgot to mention may end up? Feel free to share. I'm more looking to get a consensus on these rather than thinking this is exactly what will happen.

I am confusing the crap out of Arizona and Ogden today.

What about Greg Wilborn? He may jump to AA.

by Julio Nievas on Aug 27, 2010 11:55 AM PDT reply actions

Because he took so long to sign I think he starts in Arizona.

Ogden at the highest to start the season.

Cash to ogden?

hes done well in AZL and i think they will promote him one level only… not to full season Low a yet?

by matthewmafa on Aug 27, 2010 12:02 PM PDT reply actions

I can very easily see him go to Ogden to start 2011

He’s done a great job so far.

Cash is going to start in Ogden.

I give him 7 starts if he’s doing great to jump to Low A

by Julio Nievas on Aug 27, 2010 12:05 PM PDT up reply actions

Because he’s out of college and he’s just raked in Ogden. I know for sure it’s an aggressive move, but he’s already 23 I believe, he’s a little young to start him in Lo A IMO after doing so well out of the gate.

This is not my day in the slightest, lol

I thought he was older coming out of college, maybe I was thinking about Smith.

He wouldn't really be skipping anything

I talked to DeJon Watson yesterday (I’ll be having a full post of the interview probably on Monday), and he confirmed that the Dodgers see Lo-A and Hi-A as the same level, although he knows that the California League is tougher on pitchers and easier on hitters than the Midwest League

by Brandon Lennox on Aug 27, 2010 12:10 PM PDT up reply actions

So by that logic would he be more inclined to skip Hi A for some players?

And I’m looking forward to that!

"If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate"

by Ivdown on Aug 27, 2010 12:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Definitely

That’s why Dee Gordan, Sands, and Rubby De La Rosa all went from the Midwest League to AA. When a guy goes from Lo-A to Hi-A or vise versa, they are basically just repeating the level in the eyes of the Dodgers, just in a different environment

by Brandon Lennox on Aug 27, 2010 12:18 PM PDT up reply actions

That's great to hear

So in your opinion, do you think Webster and Magill might just be sent to AA then? I would say Martin, but I see no way he gets promoted after the year he’s had. Maybe they even send him back to Lo A for a while next year.

"If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate"

by Ivdown on Aug 27, 2010 12:31 PM PDT up reply actions

Martin will return to the California League according to DeJon...

Webster and Magill could def get moved to AA, but it’s tough to predict right now. It will probably depend on how much room the have in AA, which will be determined by how many non-roster/minor league free agents they sign this off season. Since those non roster guys that don’t make the team generally get sent to AAA, it could force other guys to stay in AA, which could create a log jam.

by Brandon Lennox on Aug 27, 2010 12:37 PM PDT up reply actions

The only real pitching prospects AA has in the rotation are Withrow and Rubby right now, correct?

"If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate"

by Ivdown on Aug 27, 2010 12:45 PM PDT up reply actions

well i mean Leach can still be considered a prospect

if he continues to throw shutouts in AA as a starter, but at almost 28 years old he won’t be considered a “prospect” much longer. The other staters, Bastardo and Castillo aren’t prospects

by Brandon Lennox on Aug 27, 2010 1:01 PM PDT up reply actions

Forgot about Leach, I’m sure he will either get a spot in AA again or go to AAA since he’s 28 next year.

Outfields

AA outfield: Van Slyke, Russell, BCG

A+ outfield: Landry(CF), Songco, Blake Smith

LoW A: Akins, Jon Garcia, ?? who plays CF?

Ogden: Schebler, Baldwin (CF?) , ??

AZL: Joc pederson, ?? , ???

by matthewmafa on Aug 27, 2010 12:19 PM PDT reply actions

AAA: Trayvon Robinson(CF), Sands?, ?

by matthewmafa on Aug 27, 2010 12:20 PM PDT up reply actions

Its conceivable

They start Sands in AA. Maybe at 1B?

by BFDC on Aug 27, 2010 12:30 PM PDT up reply actions

yah

depends on how he ends this year…. if he ends it on a hot streak.. maybe he gets promoted

by matthewmafa on Aug 27, 2010 12:41 PM PDT up reply actions

Id like to see him play RF

Unless they plan on him overtaking Loney. The only way that would happen is if they consider dealing Loney at the deadline if Sands is ready. If he plays RF, you move Andre to LF and Kemp is in CF… But then again, Trayvon is making a case to be a starter soon. So I guess Sands overtakes Loney, who is dealt at the deadline and Trayvon takes RF? Does Trayvon have the arm for RF. I personally would like to keep Kemp in CF because I feel he proved he can play CF in the majors and deserves another shot to show this year is a fluke. If he sucks at defense again, I guess he is moved back to RF.

by lakersdodgersyankees4life on Aug 27, 2010 2:10 PM PDT up reply actions

i like kemp in RF and tray in CF with ethier in LF

sands at firsst base…

or trade one of ethier or kemp for a second basemen or third basemen and put sands in the outfield

by matthewmafa on Aug 27, 2010 2:25 PM PDT up reply actions

I keep Ethier and Kemp long term

I don’t think Trayvon will be better than Kemp in CF, IF Kemp shows this year is a fluke. For some reason, I have a feeling Trayvon wont win a job outta ST, so they could see if Kemp still has it for CF.

See if DeJesus can be 2B.

Now this sounds unlikely, but if we trade Manny to the Chi Sox, they dangled Dayan Viciedo. See if it still there? :)

J.T. Wise

I know he’s 24 and at Low-A, what do the Dodgers think of him? Does he have any future, and what about his defense? His offensive production is quite respectable.

That which is in constant motion contains all possible forms.

future

is a platoon catcher….. he is the RHB of a platoon

now the difficult part

go find a catcher who is a LHB…. or a RHB who can actually hit RHP

I guess he will start in Ogden…

yeah you did a good job...

a couple of things…I think Rubby will stay in AA…no reason to subject him to the AAA yet. Also, I would love to see Garcia and Akins in the California League just to see what kind of numbers they could put up. The outfield situation as a whole is pretty difficult to predict because we have quite a few good outfield prospects who are all at similar levels, so they are all pretty interchangable

by Brandon Lennox on Aug 27, 2010 4:26 PM PDT up reply actions

Wow, i like this much better than mine, haha

Good effort. I agree with a lot of this, just probably not Rubby and probably not Gordon in AAA (I see him being in AAA until he becomes MLB ready).

You're right...

He jumped so quickly in the minors… Maybe he needs one more year in AA…
Same thing for Rubby…

Louise Bourgoin: The hottest French actress I've ever seen <3

by Jojo93160 on Aug 27, 2010 8:34 PM PDT up reply actions

Also, Rubby

has only pitched a handful of games. He has dominated almost every one, but it is still a SSS. I think Gordon and Rubby both start in AA, along with Withrow and possibly Martin(I know he had a bad year, but they could be aggressive. The interesting thing will be Sands in AA or AAA and Robinson in AAA or the majors(and what position, CF or RF). Personally, I believe in Kemps defense which is the reason I want to see if he can play RF…

How tough would it be to teach Sands how to play 3B?

by pdotmac1 on Aug 27, 2010 7:31 PM PDT reply actions

Difficult I guess...

Maybe you want to move Sands to 3B because it’s pretty weak position in our farm system??

Hello, newbie here with questions about R.Mitchell

Love this site…lots of info about my favorite baseball team

Okay…now my questions: Russ Mitchell putting up good numbers in AAA, and had a good Arizona Fall League….so what is the thinking about him? current numbers indicate a solid player or just a hot streak? poor glove?

don’t know how much Blake has left, so a move seems needed at 3b?

earlier poster thought perhaps Mitchell at AAA next year: to the Majors in 2011? with the Dodgers or somewhere else? or down to AA?

by Gap23Ra on Aug 29, 2010 1:04 PM PDT reply actions

defintly AAA or majors

but right now, hes not that good against RHP, so hes gonna be a plattoon partner in the bigs… only vs LHP

by matthewmafa on Aug 29, 2010 1:30 PM PDT up reply actions

If Blake shows he can't be a consistent bat at 3B I'm all for a platoon with Russ Mitchell in 2011

That wouldn’t be too bad to watch.

"If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate"

like matt said

they both kill lefties and are killed by righties. Wouldnt work with them two.

If we decide we aren’t going to compete next year, we should look into dealing Blake this year and giving Mitchell a shot because he has nothing to prove in AAA

by lakersdodgersyankees4life on Aug 30, 2010 11:07 PM PDT up reply actions

I thought Mitchell was a lefty, that’s where I got mixed up.

I like Russ Mitchell, he seems like a guy that has figured things out. I wouldn’t mind giving him a shot at the 3B spot, but I think his best role would be to serve as a Belliard-type super-utility next season for the Dodgers. He can play 3B, 1B, the corner OF spots and even a little 2B.
