Why players don't give hometown discounts

When you see what the Dodgers have done with Manny since he has come off the DL you should now understand why players don’t trust management. Hope Manny hits 500 for the Sox.

This

I am glad we had him. He got hurt at the end of his run here, but he needs to be hitting only from here on out.

He was a beast in the summer of 08.

It was real, Manny. Best of Luck

That first summer we got him was unreal.

I’ll never forget the excitement he brought back to the club.

Agree

My best personal memory over the last couple years is the Mannyslam game. I was in the stands and was really pissed Manny wasn’t playing. I said to a guy next to me “watch, Manny’s gonna hit a pinch hit homerun”. The guy laughed, thinking I was a dumb kid, most likely. Fast forward to his pinch hit AB. I could sit before the pitch and as soon as he hit it, everyone knew. I was screaming and the guy just looked at me and said “you were right”. Best game Ive ever been to…

Best memory

Manny scoring from 1st in Game 3 of the 2008 NLDS against the Cubs.

Very true

the other is over it though for me because I was there. Manny was a blessing for the most part with the Dodgers, and the Sox are lucky…

looks like a 3B with no pop

But he’s 21 in Hi A, so at least the White Sox think highly enough of him.

“A supplemental first round draft pick (33rd overall) in 2007 out of Iowa City HS (IA), Gilmore was noted for his strength and athleticism. He was considered a strong defensive prospect at 3B with with terrific bat speed and huge raw power, so obviously expectations were high.”

He is still pretty young, so perhaps he can develop some of that power.

Sox watchers consider him something of a disappointment.

Somebody over there called him “worthless”

by silverwidow on Aug 29, 2010 6:44 PM PDT up reply actions

I'll take him.

If Gilmore is worthless, than Pedro Baez should be shot.

Let Gilmore have a year at AA to see what he really made of. Baez is already a bust.

Ugh

my mom just walked in, turned on the computer and said “oh good they got rid of Manny”.

If she had any clue at all as to why that is good, I’d be thrilled. Instead, she is basing it on her perception that he’s now a bad baseball player.

Mm mixed feeling

I love Manny and always will. It’s just too bad that there is no DH in NL and he has to go to AL, but nevertheless, it’s been awesome having Manny for Dodgers and I wish him the best at the White Sox. I really hope we get something in return though…. Only thing I wish it didn’t happen was 50 games suspension last year…. He was on pace to hit 30 HR beginning of the season and boom suspension…
 2008 Manny + 2009 Ethier + 2009 Kemp would’ve been one of best 2(Kemp)-3(Ethier)-4(Manny), but oh well.

Oh yeah also, I hope McCourts shit is over with this week… It’s too frustrating to see Dodgers being fucked up like this.

Man, has anyone told Juan Yet?

Where are we going to get all of the players we need to fill in the holes?

Being poor sucks.

Totally off topic but I turn on the NFL game on FOX. Everything is good in HD but I switch it to non-HD and half the on screen score graphic isn’t shown.

That’s not good. They’re going to a widescreen format for non-HD viewers but somebody forgot to format it that way.

The two months of Manny in 2008 were the most fun I've had in my baseball life.

Thanks, Manny. I root for you. Too bad about being on the White Sox, a team I hate.

I guess I'm a voice in the wilderness here.

Manny is a hell of a ballplayer, but I’m not sad to see him go.

The umpire who ejected him said he didn’t swear as did Montero the catcher.
