Who are the fans that make up TBLA? (Poll)
In the midst of this horrible stretch of Dodger baseball, we need to get our minds on something more happy, like work! I've been wondering for some time now what type of people make up this blog. What types of lives do we lead? What kind of jobs do we have? What stage of life are we in?
I figure the kind of jobs that we have is probably the least of the three above that people worry about keeping private. So if you feel like it, vote for the box that most closely represents the industry you work in, and add any comments below.
Maybe there could even be some networking opportunities that come out of this. Or maybe no one will want to divulge what kind of job they hold. Whatever. Just thought I'd try. It interests me I figured it might interest others.

I'll start it off.
If I could’ve marked two boxes above I would have. I’m working to become a CPA while also going to school for my Masters.
2 for 2!
It seems we’re in the same field, Jesse! Best of luck while you persue your Masters and CPA.

I'm also a CPA
I used to be an auditor at Deloitte, but I recently got a job in accounting at Product Partners/Beach Body, which is the Company that sells P90X along with tons of other workout stuff

So you worked at Deloitte and lived to tell about it? :)
I’ve heard horror stories about the hours you have to put in during the first couple years there. But then again the payoff is good since it looks fantastic on your resume. Congrats on the new job!
yeah it's exactly as you said
the hours were tough, and it’s why I left before I made manager. But even getting just 4 years of experience was great for my resume. It def was a great place to start a career

I'm tentatively shooting for the track you're on.
Though I’m not sure yet what industry/type of company I’d like to work for after putting in my time at a Big 4.
My buddy I was telling you about
got laid off from Deloitte recently. Or fired for doing Roto during work hours:)

ah man that sucks
yeah Deloitte has had a lot of layoffs over the past year, and apparently they still aren’t done. I’m sure he’ll end up finding something better

Sales / Business Development
I do sales for Verizon FiOS home phone, internet, and TV. I can also help anyone who wants to get Verizon Wireless or would like to upgrade their current Verizon Wireless account.
"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"
I want a free incredible
and droids for everyone on TBLA.

I want FiOS at home
in Hawthorne, but last time I checked you don’t offer it there. Am I wrong?

I know I can look on the internet, but that would deprive you of the opportunity...
What exactly is FiOS?
Fiber optic phone, tv, and internet.
It’s a faster version of cable. 99.99 a month for all 3 services with no contract, plus you get a DVR free for 1 year or HBO + Cinemax free for 6 months.
It’s quite awesome, I really want it at my house but Simi Valley doesn’t get any service.
"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"
Nice, thanks.
That’s phone as in land line phone, right? You couldn’t sub in a cell instead of the land line, could you?
Nah, but you can get cell phone on the same bill if you have Verizon Wireless as well.
Actually, if you don’t want home phone you can get Internet and TV for 84.99 a month. These prices are before the cost of TV boxes (5.99 a month per standard TV box, 9.99 a month per HD tv box, 15.99 a month for DVR, 19.99 a month for multiroom DVR) and taxes. It’s free installation for up to 7 tvs, though.
"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"
If you are ever interested in checking to see if your address qualifies
Just let me know and I can check it for you.
That goes for anyone else in here too. Too bad most of you (myself included) live in areas that don’t qualify for it.
"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"
How about Verizon FIOS to my section of Arlington, VA
I don’t feel like paying for Comcast cable, and that might convince me not to switch to rabbit ears.

FiOS internet is seriously the best internet I've ever been on
Basically the fastest, because internet is internet. 15/5 downloading/uploading is the slowest speed you can get.
"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"
The internet speed is the real selling point. I still prefer Dish Network’s television more. Better DVR, better search features, better interface, etc… But I absolutely hate using the internet at anyone else’s house now. I get really frustrated and can’t understand why anyone ever waits for a webpage to load.
I agree about the TV part, I have Dish at home and I really like it, and haven't liked what I've seen with the FiOS interface as much
Dude, I’ve got crappy ATT internet at my house and I have to let Youtube videos buffer for like 5 minutes…I can’t tell you how much bullshit that is, lol.
"Stop exploding you cowards!!!"
I put down writing and editing, but since it’s a vote, I’d like to vote for myself becoming an astronaut.
I pretend I'm a writer
but the reality is a one person IT Manager for www.currietech.com where I pretend to know something. My good looks and incredibly charming personality have keep me employed as they overlook my tech skills. For 25 years I was a Pick Programmer but finally quit the programming biz for the exciting life of running my own IT shop. I love my job.

wow Accounting/Finance FTW
I actually have quite a hybrid position. I am Controller/HR/IT for a Real Estate Developer/Resort Operator we are in the Hospitality sector as well as Recreation and some day we will start to build homes again.
I am a fundraiser
for Non Profits (Special Olympics, Veterans of Foriegn Wars, MADD)
I wish I could lie for money!
On the other hand
you probably fall asleep easily every night, comfortable in the fact that you’re making the world a better place, instead of wondering what the hell happened to all the ideals you had about yourself as a child.

I am an administrative assistant at a behavioral health agency for minors.
Also in school for business management. No idea what I want to do after obtaining my degree. Thinking about obtaining a real estate license and starting a property management company in Tucson; the majority of property managment companies in town are atrocious.
I'm guessing you don't work in LA
or you’d be inundated with TBLA work orders.

Tucson
I live in Tucson. Used to live in Alabama. They have a lot of trees there, so lots of wood to work.
Student for one more year
Then I will join the Engineering/Science field full-time.
Haha
I’m a 25 year old dude working at a nightclub inside the Wynn. It’s fun. See a lot of interesting things and meet a lot of people. The industry does have a lot of perks, but it does get old after awhile. Sorry I didn’t go into further detail, I don’t comment a lot but I do always read the comments.
Damn, thought we had a stripper
to make up for all the accountants.

I would have put down Software/QA/DBA. But it’s not, so I am a student! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I move to Vanderbilt on the 12th. :D
Leading the league in OMGs.
Student life.
Isn’t it just great scraping funds together and barely getting by? Or maybe you’re one of them smart kids and got youself a schowlaship? :)
I fit multiple categories
1) I work in the transportation industry, renting trucks.
2) I got a degree in Math/Econ, expecting to be an actuary. So I would have been under finance/accounting, except I graduated in 2008.
3) I start law school in three weeks. That qualifies for student, and eventually legal.
Interesting array of fields.
If I hadn’t gone into accounting math probaby would’ve ben my second choice.
I'm multiple, too...
Primary: internet store selling women’s apparel (please don’t laugh!)
Secondary: web design and e-commerce assistance.
I lasted two weeks in law school!

I work in shipping/ receiving for my city's school district.
Technically, I work in the education field. The reality is, however, that this is California, where the students’ test results fall near the bottom of those in the nation. Not a whole lot of educating going on. :(
Hey agent_99

62
62, and I followed the Dodgers with some cognisance since 1962 , the magic year of Tommy Davis and the epic choke. I even remember Wally Moon kind of ( He hit 250 foot Coliseum home runs called Moon Shots) . My only trip to Dodger Stadium was in 1971. I was living in Venice Beach, strung out on reds and other bad substances. I broke out of the haze and went to the Ravine to watch the Dodgers get smoked by the Giants. I have 3 Sons
(like Fred McMurray) and they are all Dodger fans. Must have done something right.
Tech support, here
I used to be that one-man IT shop, but our company was bought by another, larger company. And now that one has been bought, so, who knows exactly what kind of IT I’ll be doing in a year.
i guess i work in finance
My official title is “underwriter” but its more like quality control audit for BofA homeloans for one of their loan modification programs.
i'm a student at UNLV majoring in accounting, graduating next fall.
I'll be taking my talents to South Beach.
