Rob Shaw of Bloomberg Sports analyzed the Dodgers weekend trades from a fantasy perspective, and likes what he saw.
Before the game, with Russell Martin out tonight, the Dodgers recalled A.J. Ellis from Albuquerque and optioned Xavier Paul.

Lilly's curveball

In case you missed it earlier
Solanus posted his picks for a “25 for 25” Dodger team, in which he filled a 25-man roster using only players from the last 25 seasons. The trick is he picked only one player from each season.
Very cool read, and an idea I will no doubt steal this offseason.

Dodgers starting pitching last 30 days
per Fangraphs.
ERA = 3.35, FIP = 3.35, xFIP = 3.91
that FIP is the 2nd best in all of baseball during that time span. Only the White Sox are better.
over that same time period our team wOBA is the 2nd worst in all of baseball. #6org is the worst. Blue Jays the best.

My wife fully endorses this plan
she starts worrying about extra innings right about when Rafy leads off.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
Since we are about to enter the fake time
in baseball in 30 days when normal rules are thrown out the window, I suggest they test this in Sept. Of course if no games go extra innings what on earth will they do with all those expanded rosters?
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen

I thought he was taken out last night to ensure he would play tonight. He hits LeBlanc pretty well. I thought he would get the day off tomorrow with Correia, against whom he has struggled. Maybe he is a bit more banged up than I had hoped….bummer

Out of curiosity
I wanted to see what would happen if Baseball used a soccer style point system:
SFG 55-39-13 (178 pts.)
SDP 55-38-12 (177 pts.)
COL 49-46-11 (158 pts.)
LAD 49-49-09 (156 pts.)
ARI 37-60-10 (121 pts.)

If we used the BCS System
we’d still be bowl eligible.
by Xeifrank on Aug 4, 2010 4:10 PM PDT up reply actions 1 recs
since baseball games tend to end up or down 1 run, you really could have 20 inning games.
I’d just assume have a home run derby off the tee after 9 innings ends than have that happen.
Google before you Tweet. It's the new Think before you Speak.
Bill Shaikin is not representing the Manny situation very well on 710 ESPN. He implied that anyone claiming Manny would be responsible for future deferred payments, which isn’t entirely true.
Any team claiming him would be responsible for payment of future salary earned this season (about $6.5m) and that’s all.

Last two ideas, then I’ll stop.
1) “Power Hour.” Each game would have a designated hour where all runs scored are worth two.
2) “Super Ball.” Both managers could call for the Super Ball one time and a HR is valued at four.
Purists would hate this, but it creates drama/strategy.

Furcal news
A very relieved Furcal said he is hoping to return in 3-5 days.
Torre has ruled out Furcal for the rest of the week.
Ben Maller has several Torre quotes from pregame
Joe Torre: “If we don’t DL Russell Martin, A.J. Ellis won’t be here long. Won’t get info on Martin MRI until after BP.”
Joe Torre: “James Loney is getting the night off, we need to get Ronnie Belliard some ABs”
Joe Torre on calling Manny Ramirez: “Plan on doing it, spent an hour in the dentist chair today, wasn’t calling him.”
Joe Torre: “We need Broxton to get back, he needs a couple solid outings to get his confidence”
I had to stop following Ben Maller months ago because he tweets constantly about pointless crap. So many rumors.
Wow, I don’t know who they are but they’re really unattractive.

Hell yeah! Kershaw is definitely a top 15 pitcher this year. He was 13th in FIP like 2 days ago, I believe he’s aorund 18th in WAR, he is about 8th or so in K/9, and his ERA is under 3. His walk rate is still incredibly high (way more at the bottom of the league than I thought, he’s like 10th from the bottom, but it’s way better than it was), but vastly improving.

among the best.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
"When there is no more room in Hell...
…the dead shall walk the Earth."
And like a plague of boils, the race of man covered the Earth.
But on the third day of the newest light would come the Harvest.
And the blood of men will flow as wine. When the Master will walk among them once more! The Earth will belong to the old ones. And Hell itself will come to town
How would you define your approach to management, apart from being brilliant?
I was thinking more George Romero.
But Buffy works, too.
I’m from Virginia, but live in Alabama now. My wife had a convention in DC. We went to see the O’s and toured Nats Park as well. You should too, they let you throw off the bullpen mound at the end of the tour.

I saw the Dodgers there earlier this year
Another nice park and it will be really something when they’re done with the surrounding area
You should hook up with my brother in Huntsville
to catch a AA game. He badly needs a Dodger friend.

We’re not close to Huntsville, but if he ever makes it down to Auburn/Montgomery, let me know.

This is a weird state
I’m 15 minutes from the stadium and no rain at casa de Stephen (Maryland division)
If it’s raining, we’re on a winning streak. If he’s drinking coffee while it rains, the Pads collapse.

Sign of the times, having essentially a 23-man roster tonight
on the pregame, Patrick O’Neal said Jamey Carroll said they didn’t have enough hitters to fill three groups for batting practice today.
Great catch
That guy looked to be playing a hair deep to me.
Like it wasn’t unexpected he’d get that chance.
But it was pretty friggin amazing how he went up and got it.
Rumor was he wanted $100 million and the Dodgers didn't want to pass that threshold
Then that winter gave Kevin Brown $105/7 yrs
I thought this was funny
Giants fans bragging about having a “cleaner” stadium in terms of food vendors compared to us:

I know it was the Jints, not the Angels, I just never tire of that stat
